  • the city should instead become more bike-friendly and accesible by public transport

it would be better for the general health, too

  • just FYI: Cologne is completely organized in ringroads.

  • My reaction to Colin Lynne saying that Ringway 1 would have cost 18 Billion pounds in todays money I went WOOWWWW and OUCH that actually painful...

  • Ooh, idea! Would it be possible to build at least some of the ringways underground, like they've done in Boston?

  • pissed me pants nearly twice, please do more!

  • Love it! Can't wait for part 3!

  • This stands out an example of exceptionally compelling independent film making, and I earnestly encourage you to make more. Thanks.

    TL;DR: Outstanding! Encore!

  • U R SO SMEXYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

  • I really enjoyed this and it's not in my usual range of interest in the slightest. Actualy learned some stuff too although some parts are bewildering but I think thats intentional. I'd love to see some more episodes. Very, very good job.

  • soo good

  • This is awesome. What does an episode like this cost? Will there be more?

  • 6:57 your crotch is see-through

  • im in that underrated part of YouTube again

  • Twat work old chap. Now if you can only do something about Camden, New Jersey, USA.

  • Is there coming an episode 3? Love it!

  • i love that london is such a commuter and pedestrian friendly city!

  • All these motorways remind me of what LA is like. Freeways everywhere!

  • hahaha 6:25 South Circular Rd. (Honest) brilliant.

  • great vid, but did you use a marker on your monitor? lol

  • @Leblondn If you look very carefully at the corners, you can see we blu-tacked a sheet of clear plastic to the monitor.

  • Are you planning any more????

  • If I worked for BBC comedy I would commission this!

  • please get a TV show, you are amazing.

  • Very interesting. Even more interesting because I live in North London :D

  • this should be a on TV

  • really good, funny, informative, well produced etc.. moar!

  • why fdont you make moreee!!! i just loved it!! :)

  • 8:48 lol i did not expect that!

  • This is awesome... tbh, England was not the top of my list of places to go but this makes me want to go exploring there :)

  • I need more, I don't even live in near Europe and I want more videos.

  • i really enjoy your videos and the choice of music is pleasant but if anyone knows the names of the songs used in this video please let me know...thanks

  • @TheAerieShow 00:34 - Original titles music by Jay Foreman and Beardyman

00:42 - Scott Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag

01:31 - Glenn Miller - In The Mood

    02:28 - The Beatles - Taxman

02:59 - Unknown (titles music from a Disney cartoon called "Freewayphobia")

  • this is a great series, and i hope you make more of it. maybe expand into another city? i dunno.seriously, excellent work

  • how is the song starting at 4:05 is called?

  • i dont know anything about london, but now i do, kind of. haha. seriously nice videos, looks like a lot of hard work to make these, thanks :)

  • "El chavo del ocho" reference! You sir, just won two thousand Internets.

  • What's episode 3 going to be on??

  • Someone has got to do something about the tube...

The only consistency is that it has inconsistent services.

  • I can't wait for the "click here for Episode 3"

  • your like if bill nye were a geographer, and british

  • HAHA, i love the side humour put into this series, 9:49. Awesome episode!

  • I hope we don't have to wait another 2 years before the next episode again.

  • These videos are really good! You guys should make more

  • more!!!

  • Please make more of these! You make history fun! :D

  • great work

  • 8:27 to 8:47 XD hahah

    brilliant

  • Why has nobody pointed out what he is doing at 1:07... classic Jay! Love it!

  • Both of these are brilliant & fascinating. Awesome.

  • The M1 was originally supposed to terminate on the A-ring, even further into london than Ringway 1. The first motorway to open in the UK was the M6 Preston Bypass, not the M1.

  • I love the North Circular's little *ahem* at Telford Street!

  • This guy should be on TV. This would make an ideal item on something like The One Show.

  • @BartLCY10 We Americans can wank with the best of them ...HOWEVER consider ourselves 'responsible wankers'...we keep it private and wash our hands afterwards like good little wankers. So there, consider yourself better informed and no need to thank me *goes off whistling into the sunset*

  • or go and buy a motorbike and start filtering

  • "A series of scarcely believable road-signs." What a priceless line!

  • Please make more programmes. This is just fabulous!

  • Usual nonsense about more roads causing more jams so no point building them. In which case why does driving across N London (N Circ Rd) take 1/4 the time of driving across S London?

  • Excellent! Funny and informative, you should do this professionally (aswell as your comedymusic)

  • Bravo!! eventhough I am not a London-er (London-ite? I dunno, from London, Big words hurt brain) I have been visiting for a few weeks now, and I have to say it is intresting to see the history on why things are the way they are. I wish the US, Especally my home city of Seattle, would take notice and embrace public trasnport like here. Instead of adding bike lanes, and bus routes.

  • was it really necessary for the clown to put his hand down his pants (5:14) ?? disgusting :( (shouldn't be while I'm trying to learn about London, creepy)

  • @iownthisdream Yeah, you people in US don't ever wank, do you?

  • I love you, number 2!!!

  • Pweese Make some mowe (I heard that replacing rs to ws make anything cute, so by making my comment cute it may get more attention!)

  • @2labem Shan't!

  • this is why I love the UK.

The adult with class and intelligence to say enough is enough...

unlike the teenage stoner attitude that just can't control it's self and dooms americans.

    LA could have been nice.

  • I've been waiting forever for you to get another one of those brilliant videos up here. Go get yourself a paypal account, I'll donate for you to make some more. :)

    Thanks for making these.

  • The m1 wasn't the first motorway; the m6 Preston bypass made it nearly a year beforehand

  • These are very good, you should make more.

  • Classic :D

  • MORE MMMOOORRREEE!!!

  • Good video! Well presented and researched. Hurrah!

  • Good fleeting shot of Trellick Tower at 11:10.

  • Good fleeting shot of Trellick Tower at 11:10.

  • This is great, funny yet educational, more please!

  • Jasper Carrot part, priceless

  • You so should have been my geography teacher! Might get the kids more engaged! "The north circular whizzes through the suburbs like a TWAT!" classic! This and the underground video had me in stitches last night!

  • How the fuck is Rebecca Black in the recommended videos for this?

  • @NooNoo123

I was thinking the same thing! It's so stupid. My hand is a dolphin!!!

  • 2 awesome brothers...darren and jay foreman..;)

  • Moon alien

  • what are the names of the songs in the video?

  • these are great! :)

  • Terrific. Such a great series.

  • Really great! Wish this was around when I was in school

  • god, this needs to be more popular.

  • Love it

  • This is awesome and should be on TV! Having spent the best part of 30 years living next to the A406, I agree that it is a twat.

  • You seriously need to be on TV !

  • I don't know how you managed to make this watchable, let alone entertaining

  • Why is Gateshead-upon-Tyne's famous "Get Carter" Car Park included here (11:13)? Is it because when they knocked it down it was smuggled to London ?

  • This series is excellent stuff. Please keep making these as they are so enjoyable and informative.

  • Please please please do more of these videos, not only do they teach me about how London came to be but also provide lots of laughs along the way!

  • You really need to do these more often! I can't wait over a year for an episode! They're way too interesting to wait that long!

  • Epic.

  • The first motorway was the Preston bypass, not the M1

  • Great stuff!

  • I started as a junior transport planner in the sixties so this great programme brought back many memories of projects we worked on and abandoned. I only spotted one error. The first motorway was the M6 (Preston by-pass) not the M1.

  • Brilliant. Do we have to wait until 2013 for episode 3?

  • this is the best popular-historic documentary I've seen on youtube

  • Really enjoyed that. Now, make some more.

  • Excellent! There needs to be more of this sort of thing, on a whole host of subjects :D

  • LOL 8:29 ..."Uh huh."

  • This is 24-carat awesome. What a talented family.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • excellent stuff as per the first one. esquivel on a documentary!

  • Within a hundred years this won't be an issue for us, as cars become less popular than today.

Oh yeah - awesome documentary. This family is full of talent!

  • Within a hundered years this won't be an issue for us, as cars become less popular than today.

Oh yeah - awesome documentary. This family is full of talent!

  • 12 of the most educational and fun minutes I've spent learning about the history of London - bloody brilliant!

  • Please make more of these!

  • loved the first one, this one is great, looking forward to the next one

  • That's what YouTube is made for! MORE like this, PLEASE!

  • Holy shit man, I LOVE that kind of transportation "secrets" all around the town. Your first documentary about Northern Line extension was similarly brilliant. Please please give us more!

  • ...more please... :-)

  • I just sat and watched this without checking my phone, tabbing away to Facebook or getting bored. This is TOP STUFF.

South London used to have a really extensive tram network well into zones 5 &6. In fact, you can work out where they used to go by looking for unusually wide roads. A tram line used to go by my house.

  • these are so much fun! please make more they are very interesting and very very funny! i've learned that the Foreman boys are extremely fanciable X]

  • These docs are absolutely fantastic. Well done!

  • great infomercial!

  • The elevated Westway should be pulled down ASAP. This road empties into the West End. The West can't absorb the cars,so it is always jammed. It is an ugly waste of polluting space.

Trams should be built to fill in between Tube Stations.

  • 3:09 WRONG! It was actually the M6 Preston Bypass, in 1958.

    cbrd.co.uk/motorway/m6/timeline

  • 6:52, your leg has a hole :D

  • I don't live in London but it was very easy to follow what you were talking about. I would love to see more in this series, very funny and very informative.

  • Hahahahahaha this is amazing!

  • please do more this is really entertaining and informative and well i likes what i see and would love to see more :D

  • love it jay! Mr Dhondy would be proud

  • bloody wonderful.

  • You drew on your computer screen, LIKE

  • i´m glad that i live in Germany NRW... oh... wait... did you ever where here? i think you would scream more than in 7:38 ´cause it can be more jamy and more ugly here :j

  • Brilliant, informative and interesting (cute looking too!).

Any chance of doing something on how to get around London in a wheelchair?

  • Hahaha this is brilliant

  • Thank you, Jay, not only for this wonderfully informative and funny video, but also for the phrase "like a twat".

  • @monkeyfunforidiots

Good to know how to impress people these days.

  • Excellent! thank you for making my afternoon with this piece of informative awesomeness :D

  • Excellent! thank you for making my afternoon with this piece of informative awesomeness :D

  • Actually brilliant.

  • This is Great! Love the humour :-) good stuff jay

  • Brilliant format, the humour is dark and off-beam, the characters are great and - oh wait, I actually learnt something! That can't be right when I was enjoying myself so much. Thanks for making us laugh and for not insulting our intelligence. Well done Paul Kendler and Jay Foreman. (I will never look at an A-Z in the same way again...)

  • TOP HUMOUR

  • A worthy sequel! Thumbs up if you'd like to make zone 1 car free, then every five years expand the ban into the next zone.

  • YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I WAITED FOR THIS.

  • Excellent! I do love these docus. Wouldn't normally be my kind of thing, but it's good to broaden my mind, providing I don't bulldoze any delightful little neural clusters to do so.

  • I love this even more because of the naked John Henry.. *sigh* What a hunky sex-machine..

  • i havn't been this excited about a video coming out for about a year

  • Jay foreman you have a future in broadcasting. Very enjoyable and I hope you liked my stream of consciousness comment chain. Godspeed!

  • Oh shit I've just realised you are beardyman's brother. In many ways your work is just as valid and worthy. Jesus fucking christ this is the second documentary of yours I've watched about roads amd trains what has happened to me when did I become this person.

  • oh jesus christ this is so true I used to live in south london now I live in north london and the a205 is fucking rubbish it's like a joke of a road. A joad if you like.

  • This is great. It wouldn't be out of place on the one show (minus the fat naked guy and photos of his bath based suicide)

  • Another great video Jay but have we got to wait 1 year and three months for ep 3 now I hope not :)

  • Fantastic Jay! Really really good!

  • Futuristicer. Great. Central Hall slipped in there! I loved York University.

  • I love these documentaries, I really hope the BBC or Channel 4 gives you your own show!

  • Haha! Good work dude! Quite a few roffle moments there.

  • Welcome to Stevenage! :D

  • a new type of road that was futuristicer ?

  • Awesome! Eagerly waiting ep 3 already.

Has Colin seen your reaction footage?

  • Dear Jay Foreman,

After seeing you smoke from a bong in an educational video you are my hero.

    Danny

  • Entertaining and educational.

Shame we don't have regional television anymore.

  • Brilliant.

  • i always hoped theres a part 2! now lets hope for a part 3!

  • Woop. Been waiting for this for ages. Love it.

  • Excellent Doc. Funny and informative. Keep it up ~

  • Love this Jay. I used to map read while delivering beds many years ago and those road maps really touched my heart in a nostalgic fashion... I love motorways and maps I do...

  • 11:12 - York Uni spaceship!

  • Yay!! New Jay Foreman video!

  • Great work! Haha 04.45 thats what all that M25 stuff was about!
