  • they cant throw that first router made becos that is like a antique and if they do that than no one is going to know what the first internet router was like

  • It is nice to know how the internet came into its existence. Thanks to UCLA internet came to reality.

  • I need help quickly. What is the cable that goes from the phone socket to the router that gives it internet access? I havent got a clue what they care called, and therefore cannot find a new one :S Help please :)

  • @NirvanaRox4Eva i think that's just a basic cord with the two clicky thingies on it, if you ask for a socket-to-socket connection cable at the store they should know what you mean.

  • 2 people hate having internet access.

  • 50000bits/s is sooo fast :DD

  • They took our jobs!!!!!

  • 15kbps per second!

  • i think it's as it should be...and not a shame.

  • excellent work!

  • internet was invented by UK

  • @truthsquaw

No it wasn't. The 5 main people responsible for inventing the internet were all Americans.

  • @truthsquaw Nope

  • lol, great machine. i wouldn't suspect that 40 years ago network has speed of todays (or, more precisely: yesterdays) dial-up modems :O

    is it still working :?

  • Yes it still works, there are many people who are forced to use it, because they do not have access to faster technologies such as broadband.

Usually these places are very rural, and as such companies find no interest in going there, for obvious reasons.

  • so when does it come out

  • can it run linux?

  • @Triggernappy

No, it can't run linux. Its a router, not a computer.

  • @Santiagoaero

the routers actually have an OS

  • Get Indiana Jones on the case!

  • al gore invented the internet

  • Wow...cool!

  • Amazing, it certainly should be in a museum, an amazing piece of IT history!

  • is it still there?

  • This is just an amazing piece of our history, and I'm glad to see it's still around and wasn't destroyed

  • The internet was created in a mountain cave of Afghanistan by Osama Bin Laden.

  • Crazy how a modern 1U rack-mounted router can outperform this thing by 10,000 times.

  • Yeah. Progression at its finest.

  • None the less, this is all where it started. Seems so nostalgic, like this looks as if it's from the modern stone-age or something.

  • Yea, It was definitely Al Gore. check his wikipedia for the reference

  • ALL HAIL GOD

  • the first VOIP, suck it skype

  • yeah that's actually true, al gore was the first internet router.

  • This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The first internet router was Al Gore.

  • too bad the other end was at stanfurd. wouldve been cool if it was between LA and Cal.

  • DAMNIT Leonard, we need moar internets!

  • Send this to the Smithsonian, please.

  • I have the same mini pc, im not braggin im just saying

  • I can fit routers in my pocket now, nice advancement there. lol

  • Do geeks still hang out in the CS library?

  • "That's where it all began"!

  • @DavidShatto

it actually didn't. the web started at CERN, in switzerland.

  • Internet != World Wide Web.

  • Wrong. CERN helped develop the first software web browser...by no means the first one, but one that became most famous first...

The internet existed LONG before that
