  • i cant even watch this without getting antsy

  • Performed by Homann

  • I am thinking I need this correction on both feet;the toes next to my big toe. It seems to be someone hereditary.. if that is possible... my dad.... grandma.... sister. Extremely painful to stand and walk at times. I am a teacher so that is basically an all day task. I wear heels a lot because it actually makes it feel better but no matter what shoe I wear.. it is painful. I basically am standing on the end of of my toenail which causes pressure. Plus my toes end up cracking open and bleeding.

  • @carolynbryce1 Foot types and structure do follow a hereditary pattern. It sounds like you've already tried a number of conservative options. No luck?

  • I have had the fusion of one toe and the tendon release of 3 toes. You are off your feet for about 14 days and in bed for about 7 days. The operation is really not that bad.

  • @kewhite1968 Yikes.. 14 days... all on one foot or both? i cant possibly take that much time off.

  • I was looking for gmail stuff, how did i get here? o_O

  • There is absoloutly no way I'm going through with this.

  • thumbs up if u typed in cameltoe nd u got here!!

  • aww i have to get this surgery im only a teenager too and i play sports alot ughh does it hurt at all??

  • @AleCKSis1000 there can be some post operative discomfort.

  • Ugh! Nooooo way am i going through that! just watching an illustrated non real video has made me feel funny lol.

  • @DannySmetana1992 The live footage youtube vids are even more intense to view

  • That person needs to trim their toenails.

  • @wobbler1957 Noted. I'll touch up the model next Revision

  • Well.. that looks painful

  • @jakixs The post operative pain usually subsides within a week.

  • Is it a bad idea to get this surgery if your claw toes do not hurt or get in your way, but only look deformed?

  • @Chiangsterr It would not be termed a "neccessary" procedure without the presence of pain or discomfort. That's mainly because of the risk of complication. Imagine a painless toe now being painful after the operation; it's a rare side effect, but still possible.

  • Man, isn't it obvious, they are descendant of Velociraptor?!?!

  • @Zirus101 Prehistoric foot deformities are a bit of a mystery, even today. Look at this article published:

"Foot deformity of unknown etiology in a prehistoric skeleton from Texas." Owsley DW, Mann RW. Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC 20560.

  • @KSWR500Z The muscular balances involved in most hammertoes can present at the time of birth, but not always. Surgery won't affect the shoe size directly, however.

  • damn dude i hope thats not a womans feet. thats fuckin awful!! I dont even like when that toe is longer than the big one lol but seriously

  • @DubstepIsBetter99 That's called a Morton's Foot type. Some cultures think its ugly, some people think its a sign of wisdom, and other superstitions say it means they can run fast. Your call, really...

  • STOP. Hammer Toe!

  • @overclock16 classic

  • and you get a nice yellow plastic cap...

  • @dabigjokeoftheday They also come in white...

  • I'm having surgery aug 3 what is the healing time like and can i drive

  • @ladyscorpian14 That'll depend on a number of factors, as well as you're doctor's instructions. Depending on the surgical procedure performed, it could be a few days-weeks...

  • ok i have had hammer toe for years and this morning my hammer toe on my right foot started to hurt, as in sharp pain when i bend it a certain way or stuff like that. what could have caused it to start hurting now. i have had hammer toe on both feet for years and im only 20

  • @jsweet42891 Well, which toe are you talking about? And, is the pain in the toe itself or more proximally at the Metatarsal? Hammertoes can afflict people of all ages

  • @DrGlassDPM its the one that curls up. the long one beside the big toe. its just in that toe and no where else. it feels like it in the first joint at the foot and the 2nd joint. but it feels like the tendon but idk. when i get health insurance im going to go to the doc to see if i need surgery..

  • Hammer Toe.. A real deal breaker in any relationship.

  • @ez4u2nvelsewhere Deformities of the digits, can be associated with significant psychological response. Often, these sorts of deformities are correctable with surgical intervention.

We hope that "true" love can look past this, either way...

  • Is that Pin There Permanently or is it removed later on?

  • @SeanDevonshire The Pin will be removed in several weeks, usually in clinic. Fairly painless

  • @DrGlassDPM seems like you had this disease, since u know so much about it.

  • hi doctor conceerning the osteotomy,,is it wedge osteotomy?

  • @audayhussain2 This particular procedure demonstrated is not a wedge osteotomy. This is mearly a "flat" resection of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint (PIPJ)

  • I just had the claw toe surgery and had the pins removed. How do you tape your toes to continue the healing once the metal pins are removed?

  • @allisonportillo The taping of the toes doesn't neccessarily "continue" the healing process, per se. It is intended to hold an optimal position for the toes to heal properly.

The configuration and positioning of the toes, via taping, would be dependent on the doctor's procedure and post op orders. Chances are, he/she has you follow-up with them in clinic and the toes will be taped as needed.

  • I figure why waste a docs time, and mine with an appointment when really it is something anyone can do. Don't need to be a doctor to remove a toenail and keep it clean and dressed. I see these people go in to the doc, and this huge procedure. Tourniquets, numbing, etc, and the people are off their feet for weeks. I simply put my lockblade under the nail, pull backwards, clean ti up, and dress it. Done. I don't feel much pain while healing either.

  • @HaligonianType1 I have to ask: what reason is there to actually remove the toe? Is it damaged or deformed? If pain is not an issue, then let me ask, "what reason there would be to address it at all?"

  • @DrGlassDPM Not a toe. My big toenails. They are always ingrown so I simply remove them.

  • @HaligonianType1 Sorry for the typo. Yes, Toe nails as it were...

If they continue to grow back ingrown/incurvated, despite multiple removals: Have you not considered a Partial or Total Matrixectomy? By this, they actually kill the nail root and the toenail doesn't return. This is an option for troublesome nails.

Since you mentioned not wanting to waste your time with multiple appointments, I would imagine that bypassing an attempt at nail spacers and such are may be more right for you.

  • @DrGlassDPM Well, I kind of like the pain as well. Sp that is part of why I keep doing it. Haha... I have looked into a permanent fix, and may at some point in the future again.

I may see my doc next week about it. Thank you for the replies,

  • @HaligonianType1 "Different strokes for different folks" as they say...

You've stated that you dress it yourself, but rember that any open wounds are at risk for complication. As for the enjoyment part, then that's another issue.

Comments are always fine... I love talking about feet. Haha :-)

  • @DrGlassDPM

I am a Type 1 diabetic, so I am very careful when it comes to keeping them clean. Altho I have never had an issue, and I heal quite fast. And yes, feet rock. Hah...

I am off to bed... Sleep safe.

  • I wish I had hammer toe. I'd love to get those pins inserted. I am weird like that.

  • @HaligonianType1 They would be difficult to market as a fashion accessory or body modification.

  • @DrGlassDPM I remove my own big toe nails. Have been since I was 15. No pain killers or numbing. Nothing. Then it's just a matter of keeping it cleaned and dressed. Pain is a non-issue for me.

  • @HaligonianType1 Although not "unheard of" in medicine, I will say it's unusual

  • Although interphalangeal joints are commonly fused, joint fusion isn't the only option. There are a number of variables and factors involved.

Sometimes a fusion is the best option for long term results.

  • I have claw toes on the three middle does on both of my feet. Is joint fusion the only option there is? I really don't like the thought of fusing my toe joints together. The joints are rigid so surgery is the only option to straighten them.

  • Dr Glass has no equal in graphical education........ What a gift to all doctors and patients.

    Keep it up, You ROCK.

  • I'd like to expand on the orthopedics side of things, for our biomechanically inclined viewers. I just got to get through interviews this January first.
