@maxworld75 multitasking is comming this autum, no flash but most video page works. It uses html5 and dropped flash wich is an outdated technology. You can use wifi or blutooth to connect to other devices. You pay for 3g only if you want to. No camera for now but expect attachment or update on the device soon.
Be smart, see all the specs and try one out. After you experience multitouch browsing and the simplicity of the os you might not want to go back to anything elseTry one out youl see

Why is it not an alternative? I think if Academic book publishers truly want to explore the IPAD as an Ereader then they will have to develop their own applications for it. Kinda like a web ebook portal.
You can have your book,highlight certain areas, have quizes, slides, videos, glossary etc etc all in a single unit.
I won't say this will fail just yet, but it will really depend whether or not software developers make the effort to create unique apps for this thing.
I have some ebooks.. and GOD they are just PAINFUL. Even with the ability to highlight and everything.. it's just not the same as a real book. With real books, I can look at two pages at a time. Such as, 383 and 121. Can't do that with e-books. Ever. Especially not with an iPad that has a single screen. I can write notes in the book. Can't do that with an ebook. List goes on and on.

That black frame around the screen makes it look so ugly. I'm sure it's there so your thumb has a place to rest while you're trying to hold it but it just gives it a really unattractive look from the front. Plus these devices have a somewhat feminine look to them. I'd be kind of embarrassed to carry one of these around. Not that looks are all that matter with something like this, but I'd have to laugh at a dude trying to look like a fashionista as he thinks he would be with one of these.

@maxworld75 multitasking is comming this autum, no flash but most video page works. It uses html5 and dropped flash wich is an outdated technology. You can use wifi or blutooth to connect to other devices. You pay for 3g only if you want to. No camera for now but expect attachment or update on the device soon.
Be smart, see all the specs and try one out. After you experience multitouch browsing and the simplicity of the os you might not want to go back to anything elseTry one out youl see

@iodyn my laptop have an built in camera ... sure multitask as im running ubuntu. and sadly to say, most ppl still using flash now, no idea if flash going to be outdate anytime soon. But good luck in finding other type of video which steve job recommend , like hd, avi, rm or... lmfao =))
btw, i should say that',some HTC can multitask since 2008, and ... alot e-book reader out there using android can run mutitask ALREADY :D .... hope you have enough patience to wait for steve job innovation =))

Why is it not an alternative? I think if Academic book publishers truly want to explore the IPAD as an Ereader then they will have to develop their own applications for it. Kinda like a web ebook portal.
You can have your book,highlight certain areas, have quizes, slides, videos, glossary etc etc all in a single unit.
I won't say this will fail just yet, but it will really depend whether or not software developers make the effort to create unique apps for this thing.

I have some ebooks.. and GOD they are just PAINFUL. Even with the ability to highlight and everything.. it's just not the same as a real book. With real books, I can look at two pages at a time. Such as, 383 and 121. Can't do that with e-books. Ever. Especially not with an iPad that has a single screen. I can write notes in the book. Can't do that with an ebook. List goes on and on.

That black frame around the screen makes it look so ugly. I'm sure it's there so your thumb has a place to rest while you're trying to hold it but it just gives it a really unattractive look from the front. Plus these devices have a somewhat feminine look to them. I'd be kind of embarrassed to carry one of these around. Not that looks are all that matter with something like this, but I'd have to laugh at a dude trying to look like a fashionista as he thinks he would be with one of these.
