You can build the classifier larger if you want.

I like your idea. How fast must the stream water be going to sluice properly? I.e. Is a light trickle enough?

If you're faced with slow current flow just drop the angle of the sluice box down a little more.

That way you can adjust for almost any flow rate.

Another trick I have used is to use rocks to focus the water into the sluice like a wing dam.
