  • hitchhiked to see em at grace, seen em since. Best band ever

  • I photographed Rush in 75 and 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Awesome! havent heard this one yet. Thanks for uploading.

  • Rush does Southern Rock!!!!

  • I wonder how big rush would have been without Niel. They would still have had success...because ged and alex were relentless. I wonder....

I love Niel's lyrics and drumming...but he should be a little more out there. Accept the rock star life. Being a rock star has downfalls...but accept it and give the fans a little in return.

  • PRETTY COOL TO HERE MORE FROM THE ORIGINAL LINEUP. I do love it that Neil joined, but John had made the band sound good too. Good Rock n Roll!!!! PS: The 1st album is still my favorite....

  • PRETTY COOL TO HERE MORE FROM THE ORIGINAL LINEUP. I do love it that Neil joined, but John had made the band sound good too. Good Rock n Roll!!!!

  • favorite jews:

    1) geddy lee (bonus points for being canadian)

    2) jon stewart

    3) kyle brovlovski

  • I agree with simplegrl11589, Geddy Lee is the coolest Jew ever!!!!!

  • Do they still play this live?

  • i love it... geddy lee is the coolest jew ever lol

  • only the real LOVE OF "RUSH" !!! US ALL DEEP INSIDE!!

  • A Pic or 2 of John would have been nice, as he is the one whom played this song.

  • I've never heard this. Thanks for posting this sonic history lesson.

  • c'est pas neil Peart à la batterie

  • the pic at 0:57 i have a poster of that

  • Gee, you think Alex was inspired by Jimmy Page? ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheJetfighter666 you seem upset. I also think Jimmy is over-rated but this work by alex is obviously inspired by Zep. Just look at geddy's vocal style-similar to Robert Plant. Just cuz Zep sucks doesn't mean they didn't influence certain players.

  • @TadRapidly Early on , I think. Zepp was huge in the early 70's.

  • @metalfiend124 i was making a joke; its obvious that he was hugely inspired by Page.

  • @TadRapidly Sure, i understand, but the guitar world interviews I read said that no on at the bridge was inspired by Steve Hackett's arpeggios, Camera Eye was a tribute to Genesis, the Signals album and the song Vital Signs was inspired by the police, etc.. Working Man had and 2112 had power chords from Pages Four Sticks and Immigrant Song. I was just curious who his number one Favorite Single Guitarist is. Van Halen loved Clapton, Yngwie loved Blackmore, Satriani loved Hendrix, etc..

  • The shot at around :18 I think is in Columbus, Oh. Anyone know?

  • you just can't fight it, rush is one of the best fuckin bands ever, even before neil.

  • This is killer! Love that still of Lifeson at 1:55.

  • the guitar solo is phrased similar to between between and behind in someways.....love this song very led zepplin esque (altough i dont like zepplin much)

  • @Rago2112 rush is way more talented than zep, they just don't get the credit they deserve. put lifeson and page next to each other and page just doesn't compare. long live rush!!!!!!

  • @fatgreenwoody Wow!! Finally someone agrees with me!! I've said the same thing for years!!! Let's not forget that Rush has sold many more millions that Led Zepplin!!

  • i really think that rush deserve a spot in the rock & roll hall of fame. it kills me inside when a rap group who has done virtually nothing for rock, get inducted before a band who has done everything for rock and more. pop culture commercialists i guess. fuck'em rush is to good for them any way. RUSH FANS UNITE!!!!! lol

  • @glsingle ~ uhm pretty sure led zeppelin has sold a lot more than rush did. a huge fan of both, but you're way off on this one.

  • Yeah, Zep is definitely the more popular band, while Rush has always been the ugly stepsister (so to speak).

As for guitarists, I think Page is more technically gifted but I think Lifeson's work is some of the most uniquely satisfying music out there. Page had a tendency to be monochromatic, a general reflection of Zep as a band. Rush has consistently avoided staleness. I dig both bands, but Rush is king in my book.

  • @jleduc42 ~ i hear you, i saw rush three times back in the day and bought all their early stuff as soon as it was dry. i learned a bunch of it too.

i do have to take issue with your characterization of j.page being "monochromatic", he played pentatonics mostly and wrote some of the most memorable guitar riffs, melodies, and leads in rock history.

but yes, lifeson, lee, and peart are no doubt deserving of all the accolades they receive for their innovation and just rocking your nuts off.

  • @tomitstube I apologize...you are correct about the sales.....

  • @tomitstube nope...rush is third behind the beatles and the stones

  • @tomitstube Rush worlwide album sales @ 40 million. Led Zeppelin worldwide albim sales @ 300 Million.

  • @ragsjames

That doesn't take away from how immensely I enjoy listening to Rush albums. (or zep for that matter)

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline I just went to Wikipedia to get actual worldwide album sales for you. Both are incredible.

  • @ragsjames So you base how good a band or act is on album sales? M. Jackson compared to Zep? Guess Jackson is better. Who has more consecutive gold and platinum albums? Guess that would be Rush.

  • woah it sounds like 1960's music :p

  • It sounds like the early Blue Oyster Cult albums since Rush used to open for their concerts, great, great stuff thanks for postin it !

  • john rutsey died of diabetes

  • Dude, the day after I saw RUSH in concert. Wierd, huh?

  • The youngsters !!!

  • if this was b4 their first album, why did you put pictures of peart up?

  • Any way I can get a hold of their two first singles?

  • RUSH would have probably been a lot more like van Halen if John didn't quit. Not that its bad.

  • John Rutsey did not QUIT! Geddy and Alex replaced him for lack of interest. Thank GOD they did, Rush would never became what they are today if otherwise. yes that is very bad! Just imagine this, REALLY Just the thought that if the Greatest Drummer on the entire planet, to had not HOOKED UP with Alex & Geddy send a F'n SHIVER down and up my spine!!!!!!!! How do the the new kids say today??? Oh ya OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats like a nightmare

  • John Rutsey left the band of his own free will (no pun intended.....okay, yeah it was). He was having health problems related to diabetes and wouldn't have been able to tour with them, so he decided to leave the band. It's okay to be a Neil Peart nut-swinger, but at least acknowledge what the facts really are.

  • However it happened I am optamistic still because of an interview I heard in 1979! I will ASSUME, look now we are both asses HA LOL, you were 3 yrs old then?

Look Dreamline the only point ( Go back and read it ) I was FOCUSed on was The FACT that had Neil never entered That (heres the pun) "You and I" and ALL THE RUSH FANS in the world wouldnt be experiencing TODAY The Great Band that IS RUSH! Even a smart man like you can ( exert from you ) ACKNOWLEDGE That, Now wanna be friends or continue

  • I thought he left because of his diabetes and dislike of touring.

  • Could be I'm hering alot of that. Was a long time ago when I the interview aired. Still glad that we have Rush as they are today . Like my first Post TRIED to get acrossed . Seem to had got alot of people in a big uproar I appologize if I affended any RUSH FANS excpecially when i am ONE OF THE BIGGEST JUST LIKE THE MILLIONS OF OTHERS OUT THERE

  • John left because of Health Problems he was Diabetic and could not handle the tour schedule

  • I have done some research since and thank all of you for your help! John absolutly had heath problems, As ironic as this is, My birthdate is May11 . I am very sorry to say that I had also discovered his passing, and also would like to share my deepest understanding with his Family and loved ones!!! On May 11, 2008, Rutsey died in his sleep of an apparent heart attack. So to all of you who has commented on this, let us now show our Respects to Mr. Rutsey and his Family. R.I.P. John Rutsey !

  • @constantinosbassman ~ you're nuts, rutsey was awesome. if you can't hear that, i feel sorry for you. he didn't want to manage type 1 diabetes on the road. not the kind you can cure by losing weight, the serious one.

their 1st album is still my fave.

  • @tomitstube

Indeed. As a pup (was 13 when this "Rush" was released) I used to obsess on the acoustic, to tunes like "before and after" trying to believe i was Geddy.

This is about as much of a blues-driven rock side of them as I've heard and can see how they carried it with them into "Rush" Heck, that riffage until the vocals come in tickle the edge of Southern Rock and could be something off a Lynyrd Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet album LOL.

    Thanks for posting this, ChristellaKury

  • Love the concert shots, too! Great!

  • lol 2:48 wut?

  • RUSH!!

  • Perhaps, the first drum is not Niel Part

    but John Razzy, isn't it?

    Why Niel's on picture,then?

But thanks for very valueable one!

  • John Rutsey

pics are rare of him with Rush, I'm guessing

  • Yes ;)

  • Most modern singles sound identical to most other modern singles. Rush turned into some of the most unique and creative musicians out there, so you can't really damn them for this.

  • Wow Alex had to be about 16 when this was recorded....Damn

  • It kind sounds like Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin to me, I'm pretty sure that was one of their early influences anyways.

  • sorry to sound like abit of a twat and i might be wrong but rock n roll came out in '71 and if this is early rush (forming in '68) they must have taken inspiration from a song written in the future

  • Rush did form in 1968 but this single was actually released in 1973.

  • what about cream?

  • what about it, it tastes good with strawberries and on cake.

  • lol...

    the band silly :)

  • lmfao

  • they're Rush.... why cant they?

  • They were pretty much a Zeppelin rip off at first.

  • I want this song!

  • Great photo montage but considering the song, dontcha think you should have included atleast one photo of Rutsey!

  • All the Rutsey photos are on flip side video. RUSH - FIRST SINGLE - NOT FADE AWAY

  • Solo, sounds like Angus Young dont it, awesome, never heard the stylistic similarities before.

  • Wasn't Rush before AC/DC? So technically Angus Young's solos sound like this solo.

  • idiot, i never said AL copied AY, i just was noticing a similiar style for the 1st time, i was in a rush cover band in the 80's so I know what im talking about.

    Troll

  • Listen you twat.

I never said AL COPIED AY.

now read my comment again, carefully and sound out the words if you must.

I said AY's SOUND like this solo.

    SOUND what does that mean...COPY?

    NO!

    you are forgiven.

  • I think you all said what you deny you said.

  • Heh.. I thought it sounded a bit more like Jimmy Page (who was an obvious inspiration to Lerxt).

  • She's completely right if we're talking similarities-and who was Jimmy's inspiration?

  • poor john and his diabiaties

it wrecked him, even though he became a bodybuilder

  • It's always great to hear Rush, especially a rare song at that.

  • I never notices John's drumming before.

    It's pretty fast and tight,

    nice job

    thnx for posting

  • I'm the same as redhot where the hell did this song come from ??

  • Rush fan here for gosh, 30 years, first time I heard this one, thanks

  • where did you get this song? can you tell me and where can i find them

  • I have nothing but respect for Rutsey (RIP). He helped them get their foot in the door, so to speak. But Peart put them on a different level entirely. Rather than just being another Zeppelin wanna-be, (like those goofasses at Rolling Stone used to accuse them of being) they became the greatest progressive hard rock band ever.

  • Agreed. Rutsey was really an excellent drummer. Rush would've honestly still been a great band if he had stayed.

  • 0:56 wow man alex was playing whit HIWWAT amplifier

  • Nothing sounds like a HIWATT. I have 12 guitar amps, 3 of those are HIWATT's.

  • How about some pictures of John Rutsey thrown in there?

  • Rush play quite a different brand of rock 'n' roll these days!! LOL

  • thanks for this rarity.

  • I Never heard this before!

    Its great!

  • dayum, i LOVE THIS SONG

  • Who was Rush's old keyboardist?

  • i think his name was jeff jones.

  • Jeff Jones was the bassist/singer for about a month before Geddy, I think I'll answer my question and say it's Lindy Young.

  • uhh.ok?

  • Mitch Bossi...or something to that effect

  • I didn't know that this song was unreleased. I have "Fancy Dancer", "Not Fade Away" and this tune on a vinyl import of "Archives".

  • There is nothing better than getting turned on to a rush song i never heard.

    Thanks for the post

    Darin.. The HairGuy

  • CAN"T FIGHT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Great song. But this is Rutsey on drums, not Peart.

  • If anyone can get a hold of the single of this, from Moon label recordings hang on to it, worth a mint..wicked good tune..Rush Rules!

  • I never knew this song existed ! Thanks for the posting ! Rush = brilliance !

  • Dude were the f did u get this please respond

  • probley limewire or a program like it thats where i found mine, theres "cant fight it", "fancey dancer", and "not fade away",i believe there are also here on youtube

  • They are so good, no matter what anybody says, Geddy is still hot, even better when he did My Favorite Headache. I saw them when they came to Albuquerque for Vapor Trails and for Snakes and Arrows, nice shows, by the way.

  • rest in peace my brother! thanks for your contribution!

  • I wish they had put this on their debut album. And I wish they had out Not Fade Away on Feedback.

  • Amazing song!!!! Just love it!!!

  • R.I.P John Rutsey. Listening to that first album has become very refreshing. Lyrics of booze, women and good times. Plus John does not overplay. Am I the only one who's gettin' bored with Neil Peart? No disrespect to RUSH fans as I am one of you. Great drummer, great lyriscist. But can't we just have at least ONE song about boozin' and broads and good times. I mean, we are MEN aren't we? No disrespect to Neil, as I know this is a reflection of past times endured. RUSH on!

  • Myself...not EVEN getting bored with Neils playing...it's more inventive and powerful than ever to me.And as far as his lyrics go...the guy isn't as young as he used to be and the aspects of booze women and are past issues since most folks in thier 50's are satisfied in thier love lives and no longer need Booze to have a good time. Neil can't be expected to write about topics they can't relate to anymore. Find some old MC5 and crank it wilbert...no disrespect intended...

  • Yea - you could quite possibly be the only one getting board with Peart's playing..

And as far as boozin & broads,, "Passage to Bangkok" is good partying song ;o)

  • R.I.P. John from Cheltenham, England.

  • John Rutsey has left the building......Rest in peace John Rutsey(1953-2008)

  • no it's a moose knuckle for dudes

  • Pardon?

  • actually girls have camel toes and guys have camel tails.

  • thanks

  • Rhenoism,

I think it would have prevented Rush from growing as a band musically and lyrically.. Because the influence of Neil has proven to be huge over these decades..RUSH!!..RUSH!!

  • 2:43 Lifesons got Camel Toe. LOL

  • wow.i.love this and i especially love rush.

  • Cool song

  • Thanks for the great early pictures! I loved the cover of Fly By Night when it came out, and I remember looking at it for hours when I was a kid, I just thought it was the coolest thing! Hugh Syme has done such amazing work for them!

  • Thanks for uploading this song from the

    "not fade away single"(b-side)

With John Rutsey on drums...5 stars!

  • I wonder what Rush would have done if Rutsey would have stayed on as drummer?

  • Probably would've released a few more driving rock albums, and come into their own in a different way.

  • Wow - that would have been SOOO different.. Neil writes all the lyrics & "stories" and the chemistry between the 3 is incredible to say the least !! So I imagine they would have been a completely different band.. I doubt they would have been as successful.. I know I wouldn't have liked them as much..

  • They would already be in the hall of fame if Peart didn't come on. The Hall of Fame is fickle like that, and is prejudice towards prog.

  • In my opinion the hall of fame is a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if when RUSH does get inducted they don't even bother to show up for it. There by far the greatest Prog Rock band ever and to me there my favorite band ever. I don't think they would have been near as famous without Neil. He is one of the most amazing drummers ever.

  • I agree that they wouldn't have been as good without Neil, and may not have been as successful, but would have definitely been more mainstream, and because of that, probably would be in the Hall of Fame. In Rutsey's defense, he's still awesome.

  • The "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame is the biggest joke there is. There's more great groups that aren't in yet than what are in. Yet every year they put people who aren't even rock and roll in, like Madonna last year. they should change the name to Pop Music Hall of Fame and open a real Rock and Roll HOF somewhere else. Cleveland sucks anyway. LOL

  • Did you know that they recently added Leonard Cohen as a Hall-of-famer?

    Astounding isn't it?

  • @rodneyracoon I can't wait till they put Lady Gaga and Abba in, maybe under the category of blues rock. HaHa. Hall of Shame, Hall of Shame. Rush has been around 3 times as long as the beatles, 2 times as many albums, etc, Alex and Geddy were playing together 3 years after I want to hold your hand. lol.

  • @rodneyracoon Must be from Pittssssbuuurggghhh

  • @rodneyracoon True that!
