  • i am proud to be aut!!! you asshole

  • People's lives to improve autism website: auu.cxx.ca

  • “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” - Charles Darwin

"A person with ASD will typically also prefer to stick to a set of behaviors and will resist any major (and many minor) changes to daily activities."

    Nuff said

  • @MyOwnMinion Not really. I have changed many things in my time with ease. I don't need to be condescended to by a person whose whole species is based around rigid cultural beliefs about resisting changes.

  • But, I would go through all of the suffering, the torments, the crying, again and again, because this made me a smart, and sometimes wise, person. I see things differently, and that is just what this planet needs more of if we want the human race to succeed.

  • @usmntwc2010 Exactly!

  • I am classified as having PDD-NOS. I was diagnosed with it right before third grade. However, my parents did not tell me this until late last year. Because I didn't know, I was always confused as to why others didn't think or act similar to me, or even understand my ideas. I had been picked on since Kindergarden. Before they told me, I was often miserable, even on the verge of suicide sometimes. When they told me, I realized I wasn't the only one going through this. That gave me hope.

  • I have autisme, classic autism. And I get mad if people say its a disease, cause its not. Things in life are harder, absolutly. This may sound stupid, but I´m proud of my autism. Its part of who I am, I've become a strong person. I dont want it to go away :)

  • @Quicxy I agree with you.

  • When I find Stephen Hawking, I'm going to kick his ass for narrating this video.

  • @starfishsalad Stephen Hawking? I actually thought out of a Martian when I heard the narrating voice. But both voices sound completely computerized and weird!

  • What really irks me about Autism Speaks is that they seem to focus entirely on the parents and not the actual child with autism. They should be helping the parents of autistic children, not scaring them. Not everyone with autism is completely nonverbal. And I don't mean just people with Aspergers syndrome. Even lower functioning kids can learn to communicate. Autistic kids need resources to deal with the world around them; waiting for a cure doesn't help them at all.

  • Is the public service announcement out there, or have they pulled it, hopefully on the creators part,as it would be better for those arguing against Autism Speaks to allow the public to see the original.

  • They're just having fun. And they use autism as a scapegoat (we ruin marriages, bankrupt people, etc.) If the parents decide to divorce, that's the parents' problem, not the autistic child's. Autism Speaks should burn down, and Suzanne Wright should die a slow, painful death and be sent to hell for all the suffering she gave us. The numbers of autism are rising, and WE are rising with new activists every day, and one day, you'll be outnumbered. Screw you, Autism Speaks!

  • When I saw the actual video, I was on the verge of crying. How can they spread so much hate and intolerance toward a minority group like us? A minority group that is more likely to commit suicide than NT's because of all the crap we have to go through (i.e. bullying, being forced to be "normal", etc.) I showed the video to my dad and thought there was nothing wrong with the ad. *rolls eyes* NT's. The children that were shown in the video don't look like they're suffering. cont.

  • I am fuckwitted troll that dose not know anything about autism is self

  • The furore caused by Autism Speaks I am Autism video, and the media backlash led to Autism Speaks UK distancing themselves from their US brethren and renaming themselves Autistica. A lesson was learned well ... ... We can speak for ourselves... And we won't let you get way with stealing our voices...

  • It's so sad that Autism Speaks spreads so much fear and misinformation about Autism. We aren't idiots or people on the verge of death: we're humans with a different perspective on the world. It isn't easy being different, but then again who among those neurotypicals doesn't have faults or things that hinder them in society? Just sad that instead of promoting tolerance and aiding families with Autism, AS wants to spread fear and misunderstanding.

  • @IIpounceyII

Keep up the good work! Don't let anyone talk you down or make you feel less awesome than you are. We're all in this together.

  • @Danishghost04 Oh yea! We're still kicking and screaming...

  • lets throw bricks and rally outside all comitee meetings were autism speaks take place

  • I'm confused on what Autism Speaks is and why people are angry at it. Are people angry because Autism Speaks is all about 'curing' it? And people don't think it needs to be cured? If not, what is this all about? Alot of people seem to be pretty angry on here

  • @bobbykerschner People are angry because rather than spreading understanding of autism and aspergers, this type of commercial gives the impression that people with autism are socially crippled and in desperate need of cure. Having autism or AS isn't easy, but it's still perfectly possible to live a happy, productive life. The very idea that it is a disease is insulting. I've had my share of struggles, but the traits associated with aspergers are part of who I am, and I don't want to "cure" it.

  • @WatermelonRat Thanks for the info, glad to hear another person with Asp. doesn't view it as a disability. I was having a huge argument with a friend over this issue, he said that in his Psychology class his professor said ' Lets not say autistic child, lets use 'child with autism'. He felt such a huge need to use ' person first' language. I told my friend that PF language just points out that the person has something wrong with them and is just as offensive to other people.

  • @bobbykerschner There's a great essay by Jim Sinclair titled "Do not mourn for us" that I'd recommend checking out.

  • @WatermelonRat Perfectly said :)

  • the first time i saw the i am autism "awareness" campaign i thought it was some autistic person with a sense of humour satirising misconceptions and ablist bigotry. no way it couldve been legit right? yep i was that naive and autism speaks is that full of vile bullcrap.

  • continued; it just makes me angry that autism speaks is trying to get rid of something that makes me "special" because autism thinks they're trying to be the "heroes", but in reality they're making things worse for people like they exposed a parent who wanted to kill herself because of her child's autism pisses me off because autism speaks just wants to expose autism in a negative way to destroy it for good. please listen to my comments and understand that autism is not a bad thing to have.

  • continued; autism just makes you think differently from others and it's okay. we don't need treatments to get rid of our disability! It's okay to have a disability even if we have difficulty with something. and If they got rid of autism then programs like special olympics which are aimed towards people with disabilities like autism, adhd, down syndrome etc... would lose athletes and money because of what autism speaks is doing to kill autism. I feel like that autism speaks can burn in hell.

  • the voice they did shows how evil autism is because I have aspergers myself and what I think what autism speaks is doing for autism is bullshit because they're thinking that autism is a contagion and needs to be killed in order to save families from falling apart. I feel like that autism is not bigger than aids, cancer, and diabetes combined together it's much rarer than that because doctors and autism speaks gave autism a bad name. autism is not a bad thing.

  • @avidgames91091 well said, thi video is friggin scary anyway. if i didnt have it myself, i would be a little scared of autism :O

  • Autism is not a cancer. I have it. Autism is really a brain disorder where you are born tending to act differently. With Autism, you could have limited speech, a routine each day, and limited verbality. It depends on the person. I do not have limited verbality or speech, but I do have a lot of routines.

  • is this the actual video that autism speaks put out? i find it hard to believe they would use a computer voice instead of an actual voice over. where can i find the video that they put out?

  • Autism didnt "Steal" my child or "Destroy" my /marriage. It provided me with a unique, beautiful little girl who sometimes makes me laugh till i cry, and sometimes Cry till I shake. It strengthened my Marriage because it didnt leave room for the lazy parenting that is prevalent in society today. What a pile of absolute tripe. A person is a person with autism, not a condition with a person. Dont know what this is trying to achieve.

  • @egnbigdave It's not a video out to slander autism; it's critiquing Autism Speaks.

  • I am autistic and I will stay in the middle of life for as long as I breathe. I will not live my life as a sorrowful and grieved being, but find a place for myself anyway I can.

  • I literally threw up after watching this. How can you make someone feel so horrible just because of something they were born with? I know autistic people have more heart and soul than HAL narrating this appalling video.

  • I'm getting sick of the people who think that the "I am Autism" video is "fine" in any way shape, or form. I have Aspergers. And what the fuck. I'm STILL appalled by the video. =_= Honestly. I do NOT want a flipping "cure". To be cured is to change me altogether.

    Love this video. <3

  • I JUST DONT HAVE THE INTEREST MOST PEOPLE TALK ABOUT DAILY

  • I am insulted by that as I am on the spectrum!!! Also was that Stephen Hawking narrating it?

  • This is offensive! I am autistic and this is ultra scary!! It also sounds like Stephen Hawking narrating it!!!

  • There was so much wrong with that video that I am left speachless!!!!

  • Look up Autism Speaks with Lies!! It's a rant some guy did because of me about Autism!! Yay!

  • 1:15 says that it's twelve in the morning on New Year's when the video is being filmed. That's some lazy film making.

  • Autism Speaks does not speak for Autistic people like me, Autism Speaks would like to see Autistic babies aborted (and yes I am Pro-Life by the way).

  • this is just a lot of dis-information. Its a shame the author dosnt know more they could of had a far more positive view.

  • i swear, these people need to stop treating autism like cancer. god created everyone beautifully.

  • They make it sound like people with Autism are going to die from it. I have Asperger's and sometimes I think I'm smarter than so called "normal" people. Seriously do these people even know about Autism and spectrum?

  • @TheJordant83 They don't because the whole organization is run by Neurotypicals!

  • @AngryPunkPixie Neurotypicals who don't like to do research.

  • @TheJordant83 AY-MEN! Fellow Auti!

  • "I will make everyone think that you and your children are diseased and disordered...and then...TURN ON THEM." i'm officially scared.

  • LOOK I'M CALLING A PRO!!!

ALL RIGHT AUTISM SPEAKS,I HAVE A HOPES AND DREAMS. NO MATTER HOW HIGH THE PRICE IS GOING TO BE,YOU WILLNOT DESTROY MY DREAM OF ENTRY IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIELD,OR STOP ME FROM ENTERING FAME IN THE AIRCRAFT FIELD,BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE WITH AUTISM ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL.

  • LOOK I'M CALLING A PRO!!!

  • Autism Speaks. Unfortunately so do the members of that fucking organization.

  • Semantic pragmatic disorder my asshole!

  • Comment removed

  • Autism Speaks does NOT SPEAK FOR MYSELF OR FOR MY CHILDREN! We are happy, healthy, and Autistic, and instead of using their funding for their inaccurate and stupid adds and high priced salaries, they need to LET THE PEOPLE WITH AUTISM SPEAK and tell their stories. They make parents think that this is the worst disorder in the world, and parents actually would rather have their child dead than have Autism because of Autism Speaks! They don't tell parents the truth! What about Einstein, he was too

  • You know what bothered me the most about the original? It's that I am NOT Autism. I am NOT Asperger's. I am NOT a mental condition. Sure, thats a part of me, kinda like the zing of creole seasoning on a pizza, and I'll accept it. But to say that I am autism is to say that that pizza is nothing but a delicious blend of spices. I am not autism. I am a HUMAN. So someone tell Autism Speaks to shut up! I'll speak for myself tyvm.

    Great video by the way.

  • I have OCD, and I have people with autism to thank for accepting my disability. I see of it as less of a disease now, and more as a different way of thinking. Yes, OCD has made things tough, but it has also given me a different perspective on life. Even when my symptoms worsen, I wouldn't want to be cured of it. It's as much as a part of me as my brown hair and love for reading.

Thank you, everyone who has had the courage to speak up in support of their disability.

  • This is the most awesome video EVER.

  • This is fucking capitalism. Those with the money are in control, not those with the knowledge or best intentions.

  • I WAS BORN WITH YOU,AND I AM 1 (ONE) PERSON WHO IS ABLE TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE AUTISM.

  • AUTIS SPEAKS should be ashamed of them selves. I have a beautiful so who has servere Autism. I wouldnt have him any other way. Our family is stronger because of his autism. Autism is no a disease its a disorder. And we who go through the same with our children we are not scared why should we be. Maybe some fucker should close down autism speaks coz autism speaks SHIT......

  • @hellzangels5 Actually, we wish Autism Speaks would shut the hell up about autism and stop portraying it is being as bad as cancer. Especially because we don't mind being autistic. We *like* being autistic.

  • @CrawdaddyJoe I can't imagine why you like that.

  • Right on, brother! Let's keep shouting until the bastards hear us! Viva la Autism! Viva la revolution!

  • Sounds like more of Satan's lies to me. You can't do any of the things you boast unless we allow you to. I have GOD on my side, and you are GOING DOWN!

  • this is going to give me nightmares

  • @RBASSMD8 Autistic people can speak. I can speak, am I an exception? :/

  • My brother has autism. It makes me sick when people treat it like some kind of horrible disease. My brother has given me more insight than any other person in the world. I hate it when my mother takes him to 'social skills' and they treat him like he's stupid. Guess who funds the Logan Center? Autism Speaks.

  • @BlackMaskStudios because you actually can do something about autism I guess

  • "a disability and I overcome"

That would make a fine Slogan.

  • Such a very complicated subject. I have autism. I recognize the right to treatments, the right to research and the divide between those of severe autism and those whom are able to do what most everyone else can that are so called normal people. Having studied the social frameworks of autism self-advocacy for some years I am quite rigid in that I really need to have facts and observe prior to having a point of view. I do not view autism as an identity for me. It's a disability and I overcome.

  • stfu lol i am not scared dumb ass

  • My name is Molli. I am Autism. Thanks for posting this reminder that no one should speak for us except for us.

  • @KiteTh You don't understand the video, do you? He's saying that Autism Speaks, the organization is wrong in the way they operate. As far as autism not being a big deal, you are wrong again. I have an autistic son and his disorder is the biggest deal in mine and my family's life. Sure, there are autistic savant's that you speak of, with their learning skills, but they have greater challenges that you nor I will ever understand. Think about what you say before you spew offensive garbage.

  • @nickorow @nickorow Sorry, I was pretty upset from being shown this video and was told to make a comment by someone else. However, you've raised a good point, so I'm glad you told me this. I'm Autistic as well(I'm not kidding -_-), but I just get the anger get the hold of me when I see something terrible. Next time I'll be sure to get a clearer picture of things before I comment.... God, I'm stupid! Dx

  • No. You're not stupid. I'm sorry for being hard on you. It's just such a sensitive subject for a lot of people. I'm sure you understand more than anyone, being that you are autistic. I appreciate you responding back. Seeing you interact online gives me great hope for my son. I hope one day I can communicate with him like I am with you. Thank you.

  • @nickorow Oh thank you sir! I'm glad we've made amens here, and it means so much to me today! I wish you luck for your son as well, and I hope he can get as much support as possible in public schools or anything like that now or later on in life. Have a great day, and let's just wish this video will be removed on here permanently! =]

  • This is the most accurate truth of "Autism" I have ever heard!

  • Deadpoetoftheyear,

Don't believe the hype. I am Autism. You are Autism. We are Autism and we are all together.

  • @MisterZonkerHarris hi im autistic and to be honest im proud of who i am. there are boundaries yes but hey everyone even off the the autistic spectrum have boundaries that they find hard. even social ones. to be honest you are all like children autism is just a state of mind not a big scary monster that hides under your bed

  • i must also say i used to be like some of these people however i took some time out (yes i may of rocked backwards and forwards) and i thought right there is one way to calm down and its to focus on what i can achieve. turn my learning disability into a learning ability.

  • oh and guess what ive said all of that with out running round my house and screaming

  • beckasha83, I am not an ASSHOLE. I am Autism. And when the state tries to take your child and put them in an institution on the other side of the country, or when some quack wants to pump them full of narcoleptics, I will be there. We will be there.

  • I am not Michael John Carley, nor Robison, nor indeed an Alex Plank. If you see me at the Whitehouse with Bob Wright, I'm just doing my Staffenberg act.

I am you, and you are me and we are Autism and WE ARE ALL TOGETHER.

  • Revisited this vid... it's still cool. However Zonker I hear rumors you don't feel the same anymore about things.... You betryaed us? LOL.

  • @deadpoetoftheyear

Don't believe the hype. I am Autism. You are Autism. We are Autism and we are all together.

  • aren't you just a dickhead for this video? Never once has autism speaks made me think that it was hopeless for my child. What.... An.... Asshole...

  • Comment removed

  • "No morals" - ahahahaha.

  • that is epic! i love it great work misterzonkerharris XD

  • Great vid!

  • OH GOD THIS FUCKING SCARED ME!

  • @bow659 I'm not an nt and this video is making fun of autism speaks. Maybe you should watch the video next time?

  • this video is offensive. lets all flag it

this is all the more reason to become an autistic mercenary who agrees with me

  • bow659 has also just said "the only reason the catholic church hates abortions is becuse they like to bang children so please dont listen to them"

    Who needs flagging?

  • @Socrates845 its true though the catholic church has the most pedophiles of all other religions. plus they established it in Rome they should remember the bad people they came from. the armys of julier cesar were the Nazis of ancient times

  • lets all flag it com on people dont put up with it

  • @bow659 this video was very possibly made by a Christian a bad ass fanatic that thinks autistics and aspergians are non persons there more sad than Adolf Hitler who agrees with me A

  • Great video!

  • @944devster go to hell NT this is offensive and u know it

  • Autism Speaks? BS, That's Stephen Hawking! Dear God he's gotten demented though...

  • Awesome video except for the fact you used Microsoft Sam's voice for Autism Speaks, I mean Microsoft Sam is definitively an Autistic: the monotonous voice, he repeats everything you type (echolalia)...

  • Comment Removed by Autism Speaks

  • @beandaddyo >XDDDD

  • "You just bought another bag of crap from the world's fattest fertilizer salesman!"

    -Bart Simpson

In all seriousness, this is totally offensive.

  • Its funny how Autism Speaks official video's all have comments on their channels disabled.

Explicitly to disallow people in the spectrum to speak up against them.

  • Now who are the evil >:3 ?

  • whoever supports any weeding out of autism is a prejudiced jerk, how are you going to weed out a gene in one's brain

  • This video makes no sense. Autism is not a disease. Autistic children are different and act differently but they are amazing and are a joy to be around and are fine the way they are. This video is like something to scare people. Make them fear Autistic children and thats completely idiotic.

  • I don't know the ins and outs of Autism Speaks. But, we have two autisitc sons. The original video from Autisim Speaks really does present a true and very real representation of how hard it can be to deal with a child of autism- not, including two. We have no social life can't attend functions (family, religous or otherwise) because of the problems that are imposed by autism. We do love our children and do all we can for them. Their lives have been stolen. Please have respect and remember that

  • Begum - I have an Autistic son, and I have found that social functions are difficult, not so much because of my son's Autistic behavior but other people's ignorance and intolerance. I haven't walked in your shoes, but acceptance and understanding would make it easier on any family. Fear-mongering, inflammatory videos like that do very little to help people accept, understand, and embrace Autistics.

  • MAYBE- There are two sides to this video. I have had incidents were peoples ignorace have made it hard for us in social functions. But, Mostly my sons behavior has prohibited us from going. I treat my children with respect But- yet, my son has told me he is broken. My child is in there and he can't get out. People need need to know that- too. People need to be worried enough that they become informed -so it does not happen to their childlren. 1 in 150 -1 in 104 in boys. People need to WAKE UP!

  • @BegumQ - I get where you are coming from, I get mad too when people try to go to the other extreme and say they are "just fine" and Autism doesn't need a cure and I have to remind them that thier 13 yr old isn't it in a diaper or hurting himself. Autism like that DOES need a cure. For my son, he's different and it's when people try to make him behave the same that we have problems. He NEEDS therapies... but of course Autism Speaks won't help with that.

  • @bridgetwp21 I get you.

  • Biggest crap I have ever seen

  • If Autism Speaks ever gets their "cure" and we all disappear, we won't go alone. They don't ever realize their dependence on us. Lets just be thankful that they will never actually "cure" autism, because then they wouldn't make any more money. I love your video zonker. I find it hilarious that their own hate video suits them more. And why does this video not have five stars. What ignorant bigot would give it anything less than a five.

  • I think this is kinda preaching to the quire.. maybe you should explain it in the description. It's good, but people who don't know that Autism Speaks sucks might be confused. (It seems like some are.) This is a good message so you should make it very clear!

  • Let me make this clear

A while back the so called autism charity organization "Autism Speaks" created a promotional video about autism. It framed autism as a big bad evil monster, trying to destroy your children. The video was called "I Am Autism". This is a PARODY VIDEO. it takes the script from the original video and turns it around so that all the things autism speaks were saying about autism are rightly directed right back at them. So mothers of autistics and others, stop being outraged.

  • strong vid! it really exposes Autism Speaks for what it is

  • This is one of the most disgusting videos i have ever seen,if this video has actually been made by a registered charity i am even more disgusted, and would ask anyone with an interest in autism to donate to nas or local charities instead,i have a son with autism and work as a volunteer at a local group supporting families with children on the autistic spectrum, none of us are paid we provide the service to help others,we share our experiences

  • This is hate speech to the highest degree!!!!!

  • no. he is making fun of the real video of autism speaks. we are basically making fun of the video now.

  • That was...creepy...

  • Shift the Paradigm. When you Change the Way you See Things. THe Things you See CHANGE!

  • This ad sucks it is revolting!!!!! My son has autism.

  • Just asking, but if you want autistic kids to do better in life wouldn't it make sense to put a lot of funding into public schools so that the schools can improve their conditions? That would make a hell of a lot more sense than giving your money to one of these private charities.

  • In an ideal world that would happen, but sadly it doesnt my son is in junior school where he is funded by the lea for 7 hours a week one to one,the school itself makes up with small group work nearly another 12 hours from its own budget,my son is lucky and that will change as he enters seniors next year.Sadly what looks a simple solution isn't,it all depends on funds and it shouldnt

  • my mom and i work with autistic kids and they hav learned how to talk well most of them. most of them are in a regular school now can you believe that.

  • Thats great but learning to speak isnt the end of their problems, great they have joined mainstream but how many will make it through to senior level and leaving school, sadly too few

  • Autism Speaks is Disgusting! I have autism myself & had problems as a baby that made my progress seem shocking... Early intervention & Redirection of behaviors is key! Also, finding the reason for a behavior is good! (Like a kid may be stimming to block out unpleasant noises or calm temselves, etc.)... *sigh

  • Go Zonk Go! Brilliant!

  • Holy shit we need to kill them quickly. They are clearly LEGION.

  • fucking bullshit ! just becausewe arent like u u think wer freaks dont listen 2 this video its crap n it so insultin wer just like u n in most cases wer better n smarter then u autism speaks is a load of shit n it should b shutdown autistic ppl r not stupid were diffferent n wer proud of it so shuv this video up ur ass n go die in a hole autism does not speak 4 autistic ppl it speaks 4 itself AUTISM SPEAKS SHOULD NOT SPEAK!WE CAN SPEAK FOR OUR SELVES!

  • @teen202queeni just watched this and as a mum with an autstic child was mortified esp when autisim was described as a disease........i played the vid again and again ....I now think hey this shocked me maybe it will make more people AWARE of autisim...!

  • Actually, this video is a parody of Autism Speaks. It communicates the evil vies of that organization.

  • @smallestoceans autism speaks is pure fucking evil it dosnt save lives it destroys them

  • @smallestoceans.

    are you an ultradumbass?

  • Being diagnosed with AS I absolutely despise the ad. I look at the funding for insurance as largely frivolous, because it will be used for little more than paying for dangerous and ineffective psychoactive drugs, typically those of the anti-psychotic variety. I'm just not that impressed with Autism speaks, they give a small amount of their overall funds to things like insurance in the first place.

  • This is really funny and sad at the same time (both because it's so accurate).

  • Well, unfortunately many of us think that the increase in insurance cover will simply be used to pay for harmful psychotropic drugs and varieties of ABA which may not reach the necessary standards of effectiveness to be justified.

This hyperlink if you can reconstruct it, outlines some of the reservations people like Michelle Dawson have:

    researchautism . net / interventionItem . ikml?ra = 120

  • Autism Speaks spends around 4% of its income - less than 1 dollar in 20 on actually helping people like yourselves.

As for spending our time usefully: Google the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a group of people like myself, who've been working tireless for services and provision for people like you.

Iit is you're job to speak for those who can't - and it's our job too. We are the true voices of Autism - not some faceless, charity machine powered by Hollywood has-beens and slanderous hate.

  • I note you make no mention of the other 80% of the Autism Spectrum - people like myself - who can talk, and whom nevertheless have serious and profound disabilities that cause pain and suffer equal to, and often exceeding that of our more 'seriously' affected peers.

  • A great response to the horrible fund raising ad from Autism Speaks. Sure, it's a parody, but it has more accurate information than the original fear mongering ad.

  • But surely it can be eradicated with the use of technology, Voodoo, prayer, herbs, and genetic studies, and a growing awareness!

    (sorry, I couldn't resist)

  • congratulations...you made TIME!

  • Autism Speaks needs to set a standard and communicate what degree of autism they are representing. By not doing this, the organization is negatively affecting a segment of our population on the autism spectrum that can clearly speak on its own behalf.

This reality should not surprise anybody.

  • Fear The Speak!
