@mspeter97 if you don't know how to build a computer yourself, alienware PCs are great, so i'd recommend them. however alienware PCs are gaming machines, so if you only play farmville and games like that, it would be a waste of money
@dosse91 Meh my PC cost me 2.1K I got two 5970s and I don't even game lol.. I got the cards as soon as the came out £500.. IT's only a waste of money if you're poor lol and not got a big income
@wasitrealy yes. it's a 16 bit program. old 16 bits cpus like the intel 8086 had a 20 bit address bus. this is why those cpus could only allocate 1 mb of memory (2^20=1048576 bytes=1mb). however, 1 mb was A LOT of memory back in 1985
@JoeyJoeJoe5000 yup, but it funnier to see that windows 1.01 still works on today's machines, while windows 98, Me, etc. don't even start. i wonder if windows vista will still works in the year 2020...
@computerkid1416 i had it on 2 old floppy disks but you can get it on isohunt or any torrent search engine. if you need it i can copy you the floppy i used (if it still works) and upload it on mediafire
You can emulate the Apple Macintosh using vMac (System 1.x to 7.5.x), Basilisk (Mac Os 7.6 to 8.0), sheepshaver (Mac Os 8.1 to 9.2) and PearPc (Mac Os X 10.1 (Puma) to 10.5 (Leopard) or you can just download the OSX86 to run Mac on your PC Natively (Tiger or Leopard).
holy crap thats amazing especially for 1985 now if only you could find a way to make a operating system use as few resources as that and still play todays video games there would be nothing holding your ram and processor and graphics card back
System requirements:
Intel Dual Core processor - 3GHz
DirectX10 compatible graphics card
2 GB of RAM

Pretty funny how Windows went from being just a tiny little operating environment add-on to DOS, to a full fledged OS.

I burned mine on cd and when you boot from it, it booted like a half of a second. You can burn the floppy image to a cd or dvd.

have you tried installing highmem.sys in dos
it alows dos to use more than 4 mb ram i think windows 3.1 to me used it not the nt versions
jedixo 3 years ago
oops himem.sys load the driver using config.sys then dos should run in HMA i think which mean it will try to make use of anything over 1mb
