Hmmm, did you try wiping the outter portion of the bolt body with a lite coat of gun oil or wd-40??. That seems to help with the bolts movements(moves quicker, looser) and lessens the jamming.Just dont use alot of oil or smoke and possibly a melt down will occur, lol.
@WWIIREBEL Thanks for the suggestions! This was immediately after assembly, so the parts are all brand new and fully lubricated. The movement is quick and loose, it's just that the PFC caps were so weak, they were hardly enough to spring it back. I was mainly disappointed to see that their advertisement was so drastically far off from what the product actually does.
@minutemade1961 I paid for the company's "squibs" (PFC's) - but they never sent that part of the order. When I emailed them, they promised to refund me for what never arrived, I'd be happy to try. But I literally emailed Marushin a photo of the brand I was using, and they said it was correct.
@traceradam We were shooting 35mm film - so 1) I wanted to avoid cheap digital FX and 2) If I was going to add it in post, why bother spending the money on a model gun? I could've used airsoft for a sixteenth of the price. Huge letdown. But we did make it work - you can check out the finished trailer at: KissbeforetheSlaughter (dot com)
I have watched a few videos about this online, of people using different brand and "make" caps, and them producing different results. maybe you could try a completely different cap maker because those caps look so weak they can't even produce the recoil so it jams before thne shell can be ejected.
@1985chrisross I'd REALLY appreciate more info on this! We just shot the teaser for our next film using the gun, and had to add muzzle flare, etc in post - which I hate. You can find us by google searching Fire Trial Films - hit me up with the contact form!

Marushin MP40 is famous for its awesome operation and is named one of the best buy modelguns. You should test more using other squibs.
