I think we need to look into this Palin character. Palin-Putin. Coincidence? She says she see Russia all the time. Who else would see Russia....but another Russian? Get this communist out of our country.
We have never seen her Birth Certicate. Why has she spending money to hider her birth certificate if she has nothing to hide?
To add another note, think of the way Walter Cronkite reasoned with grammatical, spelling errors...the man knew not to look the unprofessional by simply going along with a plan even while picking up the obvious mistakes. If you doubt me, research it. Well back in the 60s, he literally informed his superior of his refusal to read a prompt due to its incorrectness. It's a sign of a professional when they maintain that integrity to not sound/look foolish.
The reason Quayle told him to put the E on the end is because the spelling teacher gave Quayle misspelled cue cards. . For years I didn't believe it but the uncut news feed of this event shows it. Later Quayle turned the card to the pool reporters and showed them the card spelled wrong. Now what's funny is that some of the reporters can be heard telling Quayle that " NO, the card is right" Even they didn't know. Later someone checked the cards and found more misspelled cards
@TELEVISIONARCHIVES what's really sad is the fact a serious politician never thought to consider correcting a basic mistake. Many times in politics do officials edit, clarify, revise once noticing something wrong. What would have happened in D.C. had Quayle been given a briefing saying, "Let's attack Austria as retaliation for their leader, Julia Gillard (PM of Australia. Similar sounding country names), killing 5K innocent Americans" and refused to make the necessary correction? Would not wash
@TELEVISIONARCHIVES apparently the thought failed to register with you. Should I now send you a picture? You DO NOT get a chance to "correct" things after the fact once holding a post in D.C. That's evident to anyone who accomplished basic civics skills. Do you understand now? Cronkite mispronouncing words, as in syllables, is a stark contrast from deliberately making errors like was seen in this clip. Funny how you could not cite one specific example about him either. Blowing smoke ;)
@cajayson8301 And yet a spelling teacher spells a word wrong and the VP gets blamed for it. I can post many examples of Cronkite saying words wrong. I have tons of CBS Evening News broadcast.
All of you here who are saying "it was the teacher's fault! It was misspelled"...let me just put it this way. Had Obama been in Quayle's shoes, you would have NO problem ripping him apart over a simple misspelling
I think Osama Obama is the smartest socialist democrat, he pronounced corpsman as corps man! what a dumb dick! a corpsman is a marine medic! and it is pronounced cor man! LOL and Osama is the commander in thief LOL
It is true about the spelling on the card. But Obama is still trying to visit those 57 states with 2 to go. And Gore is checking that lock box and getting educated about that bust of Washington he didn't know who it was. I know what is ---is
@Shinzura exactly. Palin clearly does not get separation of powers. An executive never "Gets in to make policy changes" in the legislature. It's one branch only in D.C.
Other duties of the VP: Sit on the NSC and provide advice if the POTUS wants it (normally they do not since the National Security Advisor is the chief advisor of the NSC), greet foreign dignitaries at the airport, be there in case something happens to the POTUS, go overseas to push for America (not the same as creating policy)
what's wrong with it is that she totally dropped the ball...the VP has NO legislative authority at all. The only thing they do in the Senate is break a tie vote. Her insisting they "Get in there to make policy changes" is as inaccurate as they come. The VP's duties are clear when it comes to the Senate-preside over it but only break a tie vote...they cannot be legislators (per what she's implying) on account of how that would violate the separation of powers doctrine.
Dan spelled potato wrong because the answer card said it was potatoe. Simple as that. I guess when the supposedly correct card says one thing and you think another, the safe bet isnt always go with the card.
The media never reported the Dan Quayle Potato event correctly . The uncut video showed Quayle showing a misspelled cue card to the reporters after the event had ended. The cue cards were printed by the spelling teacher at the school. So the spelling teacher spelled it wrong. Also, this kid ,William Figueroa, dropped out of this New Jersey school . He now works at a Walmart .
The fact is that Quayle was reading from a cue card that was spelled wrong, by a spelling teacher . If you want to blame Quayle thats ok but the fact is the spelling teacher gave him the cue cards and he went by want was printed.
Yes. Quayle pointed it out to the press after the event. But here is what's really funny. Some reporters said it was the cue card was spelled correctly. They said Potato had a e at the end. You can hear some reporters go back and fourth about how it's spelled. If anything it shows how bad the teachers are in New Jersey
Some of you don't get it. A "Spelling Teacher " spelled it wrong. And I'm just telling you what was never reported. The Media never reported the fact that the Spelling Teacher spelled Potato wrong. If they did they the teacher would have been blamed and not Quayle. It shows how bias they are.
@VIDEOTIMEMACHINE watch the video again. The boy spells it right the first time, defying the misspelling on the card (if what you say is true), and Quayle urged him to spell it incorrectly rather than correct what is on the card. It's bad press to see a potential VP make a careless blunder when he had that moment to tell him "no it's misspelled on the card"-hey, teachers can be corrected!
I have the uncut video of the event. And the media didn't report the truth about what happened. Later in the video Quayle showed the cue card to the press . And some of them can be heard saying the card was spelled correctly. Some said it wasn't . Nobody at the event ever reported that the Spelling teacher spelled Potato wrong. If they did then Quayle would have looked OK and the teacher. would have been the fool. The uncut video was shown on the old Trio Network years ago.
The whole point about what I said was how the media didn't report this 100 percent accurately. For many years I thought Quayle was trying to correct not only the kid but the what was written in front of him. But the fact is the spelling teaching spelled the word wrong and nobody ever reported that fact speaks volumes.
Numerous sources (including Wikipedia and Ann Compton of ABC News) confirm that Quayle was handed a card by the school... a card written by the school's spelling teacher... with potatoe as the spelling. I don't remember any of the contemporaneous news reports providing that incredibly important fact. Ironic that on this board, I have seen sympathetic posters give Obama a "teleprompter" excuse for his corpse-man gaffe... as if he normally gets the "hard" words spelled for him phonetically.
@virginianx10 there is no reason to bring Obama into this at all (last I checked, all politicians use teleprompters at times...such as at conventions).
Let's put it this way-if the school card said "Dan, go jump off a bridge" does that mean he should do it? Absolutely not. If anybody makes a careless mistake like this one and you know how to correct it(as he should have. Potato is not a hard word to spell), just step in and correct. Not that hard to do.
My reason for bringing up Obama (if you permit me one) was to show the monumental hypocrisy of those who call Quayle an idiot for believing the spelling given him by a spelling teacher... while ignoring the president's ignorance of how to pronounce CORPS. Please explain what using a teleprompter has to do with the mispronunciation. Please explain how the media could have possibly decided the Quayle story was made more accurate & fair by leaving out any mention of the index card at the time.
@LarentisOnline The President... Commander in Chief... in a prepared speech... doesn't know it isn't the Marine CORPSE and you say that's OK.... understandable...not important.... but accepting the spelling "potatoe" on a card just handed to you by a spelling teacher....THERE's a certified idiot. Again, I'm no Quayle fan... nor a Palin fan... but I am not a total hypocrite willing to excoriate Quayle for his mistake and to ignore Obama's. Anyone even pretending to be fair couldn't accept that.
@92GH@92GH Still waiting for any of those ripping Quayle to explain away Mr. Obama's not knowing how to pronounce CORPS and why that mistake (repeated and repeated) is not a reflection on Mr. Obama. And why it was ignored by the media. I agree that Quayle was shallow. I think Palin is shallow. I KNOW Obama didn't know how to pronounce CORPS....and... in your words... a President ought to realize the mistake. It is clear the media play favorites and that is unethical and dangerous.
You telling me you've never had a moment where you were 100% sure of something (in your mind of least) and it turns out you were dead wrong. Felt like a bit of an ass didnt you, i have one or two of those to say the least. All im saying is do you go with what you "know" is right, or go with what is supposed to be right
Atleast she knew the Vice President is the President of the Senate. She obviously didn't know the Vice President only casts a vote in case of a tie in the Senate. She's clueless about civics or basic government. Thankfully her career in holding political office is probably over.
Sarah Palin hot? Personally I find hotness when females actually have animation. Wind this Barbie up and any hotness quickly turns to Gosh Darn. Yeah, baby!
@matthew146 Yeah thanks genius. You think I knew the election year but not the fact they take office a few months later in the next year? Election campaigns and their propaganda are always dated for the year of the election, not the year they take office. Obama '08 took office in 2009. It's a funnier "joke" without the distraction of the wrong year, although barely a joke to begin with..
No, no, no. Dick Cheney changed all the limited powers of the VP. He made it a fun job, calling the shots, leaking propaganda to the media, hiring the company who he was CEO of and received $40 million in bonuses from just before he became VP to become the major contractor for the war that he created. The Senate? That's pipsqueak power compared to the proven potentials of the last eight years.
Actually, they've been trying to increase the Vice-President's responsibility over the last couple of years. With the exception of taking over if the president dies, the Vice-President's only major duty is residing over the Senate. I'm not sure, but I think it was James Madison who called it one of the most useless positions in the government.
"My country has in its wisdom contrived for me the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived." (Upon being elected as the first Vice President)
There is actually some precedent for her notion; the VP is 'president of the Senate' (hence the title, 'president pro tempore' or 'temporary president') and used to be more active there. The VP office was located in Congress up until around the middle of the last century. Palin has such little respect for the usual professional boundaries that I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to play 'maverick' and try to 'get in there with the senators.'
