  • So is there a cleaner audio track of this version? I like the energy of this one, it has a nice contrast with the album version.

  • Thanks for sharing, I did not know that version (with his own voice overdubbing) and the performance is great !

  • demonstration magistrale de l archange gabriel tenue vestimentaire exellente j adore cette version un chanteur qui sait chanter

  • demonstration magistrale de l archange gabriel tenue vestimentaire exellente j adore cette version

  • Always been one of my favorite songs...This is really cool to see and hear

  • @BeatmakerzUp I recieved this on a dvd from one of the trading groups I'm in 4 yrs ago. I have no idea where to find a cleaner version of the audio. It certainly is a great version of the songs though. Maybe you can use the youtube downloader programme to download the video, and if you have any knowledge about audio editing you can clean it up yourself. Glad you liked the video

  • This is so sexy, "sausage speared by the cocktail satellite" is my favorite bit.

  • one of my favorites songs from peter. a very spooky version. wow

  • one of my favorites songs from peter.

  • Unbelievable! I can't fathom the shocking greatness of this video! PG is my favorite vocalist of all time!

  • l'Arcangelo Peter.........

  • love it. When will he release it on CD?

  • If there must be a God, Peter Gabriel's got my vote.

I've been watching his videos all day, and I just keep thinking "holy... holy... holy..."

  • WOW! By far, my favorite PG album. Watching this is such a gift. Thank you for posting! As many of these posts, saw him in '86 (4th row) when he did a backward dive into the audience and was carried around for a few minutes during this song. I also remember some great lighting/choreographic wizardry during "No Self Control" where he was dancing around and dodging these 2 windwill lights on stage during the chorus. A true master!

  • 7:55 Peter Gabriel, The Romulan...

  • This is the best version of this song, thanks for sharing

  • This is without a doubt the sexiest version of Lay Your Hands on Me, dark and strange, how can one person be so fascinating?

  • This is absolutely my favorite version of Lay Your Hands on Me. I've had this on a bootleg VHS for a long long time.

  • I can only vote "I like" when I would vote "I adore" (w/ the great yeeeaaaahhhh sung by Roger Daltrey/THE WHO on 'we won't get fooled again' ! Don't ask me why... or I might add ... w/ RAEL/Peter's voice that time : "YAH !... & IT GETS INTO MY BLLLLOOOOODDD !!!" ("Excuse me please" : "I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL ! " I do remember !)

I had these videos on my huge vhs tapes from all the world : looks great to now absorb uh swallow them now by a web link. Many thanks for sharing these rarities !

  • The Italians have great musical tastes, and they also are some of the greatest musicians themselves.

  • I have an audio version of this in my channel....without audience or TV-interference

...you can download this alternate version of "Lay Your Hands On Me" via FILSH. net

  • I miss weird Peter...sigh

  • Proud to be Italian...

  • that 82´ album of gabriel is so bloody great,

at this time gabriel really was the one who very nailed it,

the sound and the songs, so intense, really undiscribeably strong and unique

gabriel really is a living legend

  • I'd always wanted to find a great version after I heard it on David Copperfield's specials as a kid. Thanks!

  • This is a great version of the song - the video shows the clear evidence of Laurie Anderson's influence (see her "Oh Superman (Oh Massenet)" video for comparison. Thanks for posting this.

  • Maybe the best version of "Lay your hands on me" !

Forza Italia !!!!!! Grande e mitico Pietro Gabriele !

  • Without words...

  • this mix of "Lay Your Hands" is cool - some nice additional vocals by the Master. Thanks for posting !

  • best concert i ever saw back around 1986 at the forum in los angeles. audience carried him around after he did a trust plunge during this song. still still still waiting for someone to figure out where to get this amazing version. helllllp!!!

  • gaikinger1 - Same here. I was at the Greek Theater in about '86 and was astonished when Peter laid himself down on his back into the audience and was carried whilst singing for about 5 minutes. Amazing. Brave. (Possibly foolhardy . . . )

  • eccentric genius

  • Music from one of my favr AND best albums ever

    PERFECT....... NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!

    Frank

    The Netherlands

  • That was epic! Thanks so much for posting this video.

  • My God. With the backing voice he sings such a brilliant different melody. never heard this before. was this ever officially released??

  • WOW..What a cool CLUB-VERSION of this song! Has this ever seen the light day as an official release?

  • Excellent archive material -- where the heck did this piece come from -- totally rare!

  • Wow !!! Italian TV is JUST like TV here in the USA. We, too, have music videos play on the tube. Except, over here, they are of talentless "urban youths", mouthing words to a mindless beat, gyrating around half-dressed, and the only lyrics you can make out is something about "aight' and "my bitches'. Oh, yeah: And Britney lip-synching to drivel. Also half-dressed. *SIGH* Terminal pollution of the airwaves. Thank God for PG, as he balances out the talent deficit all by himself. Peace:-)

  • I couldn't have said that better.

  • @sober8 Actually yes... There's a Porcupine Tree Song Called "The sound of Muzak"... hear the lyrics... Is exactly this post but in a retorical Way....

  • @binnyman None of that crap was on the TV in the USA in 1983....

  • @binnyman

    AGREED! :)

Wonder what it was like in 1983 to watch this in the West (if you ever ever got a chance to watch italian television bootlegged or whatnot). must have been a real trip, treat, or something else entirely.

  • Love this album. I saw this tour in a Rutgers Gym on Mischief night back in 82 or 83. Peter fans at Halloween, enough said! I still remember that night like it was yesterday so I guess it was a great show.

  • I once had the album this was on. As I recall, Peter Gabriel didn't bother to give the album a title, so the record company named it "Security". This was only printed on a sticker that was attached to the shrink wrap. I liked "Shock the Monkey", and this song, but I wasn't quite ready for the rest of the album. Wish I had it now.

  • I just love it.

    Great great great artist.

There's nothing in today's music comparable to this.

  • does anyone know where this version can be found for purchase. this is a great layered version of the original track

  • This is what I call ART

  • Yes, it is...

  • It's only common sense, there are no accidents around here".... my fav. line.

  • So...fate?

  • For me, there is something bigger than me, more than me, more than us.

  • This is by far my favorite version of this song.... I've had a bad vhs copy of this for 20 years or so. Glad to see it in better quality. But it's really the music that makes this so good.

  • was this version ever released? This version should have been on the album!

  • ask yourself why we need to go back so far to see such independent creativity?-peter,david,brian,adrian,fripp,murphy,heads,iggy,etc....no one to replace these icons

  • Tool is the only band I can think of. And people who only give them a glance might not agree.

  • I agree 100% I am a big PG and early Genesis fan as well as a Tool fan. The last open minded band not afraid to be creative on stage.

  • The point being...he's an artist.

  • Yes! Jerry Marotta! This drumming hits! (And who the hell is in charge of the removing of all this great live stuff from POV?!?!)

  • Besides the fact he's an excellent singer/songwriter and personality, did he always do his make up himself? Cause I think it was always very good and creative. I just love it.

  • Yuppp, he did all the make up himself, even back when he was still with those Genesis boys.

  • Whoa!!! this mix of LYHOM _rocks_! me want to purchase. Realworld? You monitoring? get this out on Amazon or itunes or something.

  • The LYHOM vocals KILLED me! That was too much. Is this audio version available at all? I've never heard it before, and thats a good trick! Thanks sober8!!! This KILLS!!!

  • I suppose im being selfish regarding Peters workload, but its always nice to here pg new stuff,it just doesnt happen often enough.

  • The trouble with Peter is he takes too long to release new material, only two studio albums since So back in 86.

  • What troubles? Lay back an relax yourself. Go on with your own business an then one day you will find out you missed the last release for a month or so. When you´ll find out you will be suprised and at least, very important!!!, you will be really very, very happy! (Should be more than `nice´ in this case... I guess.)

  • You sound as strange as me,Peter does that to you.You cant but let Peter get inside your head.

  • well Big Blue Ball is supposed to be released in a couple of months

  • Yes, but we've all heard that line many times before. Don't mind me, I just get impatient.

  • No, it's true. He does take ages and the funny thing is he knows it. That being said though, he does think Kate Bush is slower!

  • Big Blue Ball is now out for a couple of months I think, I bought it, Its one of my favorite albums all time now...

Look for songs here in youtube to check it out, and go buy it!

  • Peter is an all time great, this guy always seems a street in front of the rest.He has you in the palm of his hand.

  • i never saw this video even if is kept from an italian tv show but is simply GREAT!.I'm still waiting for the new album and tour....before 2009 please!ciao VITALBA.

  • PG IV is my absolute favorite album of his. Every song on the album deals with the animal within us and what causes it to be released or be otherwise stimulated. A concept album if there ever was one, and the best example of one in my opinion.

  • WOW! this version of lay your hands on me really kicks ass-i love the "real" drums and the vocal harmonies.

I wonder if there is a MP3 available of this version-if there is what is it called?

  • I want this version (mp3) too Anybody???????????

  • ... ach ja... eiGentlich wird schön ja in Deutsch oHne 'H' geschrieben.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHhaahahahahahyahhaahhahahahaahahhahahahhahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa...... oVer.

  • whoooohooooo....^^.... doin sOm Winsurfin at this Time:)^^...

  • beep... beep...

  • I wonder if PG ever encountered Fellini...

  • security was a stunning album. i didnt much care for shock but all the others were "mystic".

    dream inducing. ritual. emotional sweeps.

  • YES, EXACTLY.. Security's highest points are deffinately Wallflower and Family..net <3

  • woah, I realy like that lay your hands on me version...

  • There are only a few songs by Peter Gabriel that I really like 'Lay You Hands On Me' is most definally one of them.

  • Great performance!! Great Peter !

  • That was amazing! Odd how it seems to be lip synched but the vocal line on Lay Your Hands is a different arrangement from the one on Security....hmmmm.....but this is a truly brilliant performance showing what a true genius Gabriel is. Thanks for this :)

  • Always surprises me, how one who works so much with rhythm....is himself so 'rhythmless'....still, guess he has to have a fault.

  • "Always surprises me, how one who works so much with rhythm....is himself so 'rhythmless'....still, guess he has to have a fault."

    Ummm..... what?

  • I'm just crying...this version is A M A Z I N G!!!

    CDC

  • When I think of PG this is what i think of in my mind's eye not the dull as ditchwater ballads he trots out now with his voice shot to pieces.

  • ...yeah I know what u mean, and that christ like scream...wow !!

  • Yeah, I miss the old Peter...but I still love him :P

  • Wow. I've seen Gabriel three times. The first time, a few friends and I were in the foyer of the Forum, rolling a fairly large joint, when PG, head shaven and in looked some sort of astronaut's jumper, came walking right by us. One of our group caught on that it was Gabriel and followed him, just as other people around had the same flash of recognition. I've heard that he used to do that: go walkabout in the audience before the show, to pick up the vibes of all the people. I think that was 1980.

  • strange music but hypnotic.

  • Mr.Gabriel...another musical genius...never tire of this man...I see him every time he tours near me...he holds a special place in my music library...

  • great raw mix & the multi-vocals all being at the same level was cool idea. Lay your hands was fantastic.

  • Wow this shock the monkey is ten times better than the original video..

  • What an awesome discovery!! Please, I want this version released NOW!!!!

  • its a way different mix. the drums are snappier. the vocals are super layered....wow this is cool. definately lip synching. and the backing band is some sort of generic new wave band..lol....maybe peter's normal band couldn't make the gig/fake live thing...huh...wow...

  • Lay your hands on me in my opinion is just as good as shock the monkey, both are amazing pieces of music...and watching him doing in this performance stretches out the dark artistic nature even more...brilliant

  • Why isnt this version on any best ofs. Maybe Pg is saving it for a box set. hmmmmm Thats a great idea.

  • Although it's pretty much the same, I think this version beats the track on the original record. The powerful vocal harmonies make it.

  • I can't beleive I got to see this again after all these years. I saw him do it live back in 1980?

  • Well that was ridiculously hot. PG is one of the very few who was cool in every way, shape, and form during the 80's.

  • Very interesting and funny performance. Thank you.

  • Even though I can't download it, sober8, I just wanted you to know: There's a special place in Heaven reserved for generous PG fans like you! Thank you!

  • Was this version of the song ever released to the public outside of this appearance? It's definetely a studio recording.

  • Who's band is that. I don't recognize any of the musicians.

  • Wah! For some reason I can only download the first few seconds of this before the black "Share or Watch Again" screen pops up. Any suggestions? I didn't have any other browsers up while I was trying to download this...Thanks!

  • I don't know why. I've had that happen to me with some other videos I've tried to watch from this site

  • Pete is the man! Thanks for posting this gem.

  • Bless you for putting this up.

  • You are very welcome.
