I know one of defensive ends on that team he's #94 Jerry Mader he coaches the defensive line for my high school football team so he played with all these guys Volk and Bill Yearby among others
I remember DB Rick Volk having a great career with the Colts. But he had a bad game vs the Jets in the Super Bowl as he was KO'd by Matt Snell in a helmet 2 helmet collision. Still, he played a few more successful years.
I think the thing was that, Elliot was stepping into a bad situation to begin with. Oosterbaan's last team was awful and he did not recruit very well at the end of his tenure. Then Elliot was slow to pick up to recruiting as a tool, you gotta remember prior to the 1950s and television, alumni did all of the recruiting out of state, because Coaches weren't allowed to travel out of state to recruit.
I know what you mean, and I'm not blaming Bump for all of Michigans problems in the 60's, I'm just saying that he wasn't the great coach he was expected to be when Michigan hired him after Bennie stepped down.
At 2:02 that was OSU halfback Bo Rein who fumbled the ball. Rein was a great running back for the Buckeyes, and later a pretty good football coach. Rein coached some of NC State's finest football teams ever in the late 1970s who had players like C Jim Ritcher and TB Ted Brown. I was surprised to hear his name called in this game film.
I am an old geezer, and have been following Michigan football since 1959. This was a great team. Rick Volk, Bob Timberlake, and Tom Mack were fabulous players. Mack and Volk were among the best at their positions when they were in the NFL. I'm sure that Mack is in the Hall of Fame, and I think Volk is too, or should be.
I believe the announcer is Tom Hemingway. He used to do the games over the university's local radio station. I have a cassette of his broadcast of this game. Hemingway worked at WKZO radio, here in Kalamazoo, early in his career.
I actually have several of his Michigan football broadcasts in their entirety.
Who's announcing, and where did you get this? Is this a TV broadcast? I didn't even know they did a TV broadcast of this game, it certainly looks like an early one from the 60s when AD's were wary to let cameras out of the press box.
I don't think it's a TV broadcast. I think it's footage shot by OSU matched up with radio announcers. One of their names is mentioned at 7:53....I think his name is Chuck Collins?
The Michigan fan I met online who I trade games with provided me with this game.
Makes sense, OSU had the Snow Bowl in 1950 recorded in a similar fashion, somebody else had it uploaded on youtube. For some reason this doesn't sound like it's the OSU radio announcers, maybe they were announcers for NBC or CBS radio or something like that. Probably because they don't sound too excited throughout the game.
thanks Andy for this video this was my first M osu game I watched way back when been a Michigan fan ever since

Bump Elliots teams were almost always mediocre, but this 64 team was a great team. Wish I was alive to see it.
Go Blue

@dramusic Tom Hemingway wrote a book in the mid-1980s called "Life Among The Wolverines" which is a great read if you can find it.

I'm not sure that's what he meant. I think he meant "we" as the broadcast team, that tends to lead to some confusion.
