Hmm. Having watched this I have concluded that the view of all religions by Dawkins as one and the same lie, which has only determinal effect on our lives is somewhat shallow, superficial and one-sided. i'm very disappointed.
i have been to the aqsa compound, and to other holy areas in jerusalem as a tourist. there are plenty of nonmuslims who visit there. ariel sharon's visit at the beginning of the intifada was not a peaceful visit. his guards unleashed bullets on the crowd. and the intifada was coming whether or not sharon had visited the area, because of many political/socioeconomic issues.

I invite Dawkins to visit Bodh Gaya, the sacred tree of Buddhism...which is also a Holy Site for Hindues. Both practice peacefully side by side. Or, maybe a Chinese Temple that is Taoist, Buddhist and Confucious combined.

Anyway, while Buddhist have killed people in the past, as I said, Atheism has it's own history of violence, bloodshed and oppression that people like Dawkins always ignore. Hoxha and Stalin might have had other things to do if the poisonous scurge of religion had not been so prevailent. Even then, Stalin's atrocities were not committed in the name of atheism.

If there was no peaceful mainstream of religious faith, there would be no recruitment oppertunities for lunatic faith groups and generally speaking, everyone would unite behind a move against extreme faith. As it stands, we cannot do so for fear of offending the silent and peaceful mainstream.
So, even peaceful law-abiding faith is dangerous, or has dangerous repercussions.

It's an interesting point, but the cult of reason in the French revolution were not just out to suppress the influence of the church. the french were starving, bread was short, and the behaviour of the monarchy and the church(who had implemeted a unfair tax called le dime)triggered an outlash that was driven by a few extremists, namely robespierre and danton I think. Also, France came to it's senses quickly, and the bloodshed stopped, whereas religious freaks have been at it for years
