Henri Desmarest never had been composer for the Louis XIV Royal Chapel of the Versailles Palace. He took an exam for the competition to succeed this post but in the same time helped a colleague named Goupillet who was Choir Conductor at the Sainte Chapelle du Palais to compose for the competition. This was discovered and Goupillet lost his charge and was send at the Royal Church in Saint Quentin en Vermandois.

Desmarest didn't succed the competition but the King allocated him a pension regard to his merits

Finally Louis XIV chose Michel Richard Delalande by himself to be the Royal Chapel Composer. Later H. Desmarest kidnapped his young beloved wife to her parents and married without her parental consent. But the maiden father was President of the Paris Parliament and He brought Desmarest to trial which condamned Desmarest to death. The couple had to run away in a foreign country.

They fixed up in Spain where Desmarest became composer for The Spanish king Felipe Iv. Then he changed to be composer for the Lorraine Duke. At the end of his life he was pardonned and returned back in France but his musical career was finished.

It would be necessary to dig out the Desmarest's work because of its hight quality and importance in the baroque french music.

Henry Desmarest är väl en ganska okänd kompositör här i Sverige? Jag fick leta ett bra tag för att hitta låten...! Skulle också vilja sjunga den, eller åtminstone se den framföras i t.ex. domkyrkan! Synd att man missade det..
