Your stuff is amazing! your technological knowledge is so over the top! I video posted you one of my songs. Check it out, I would love to have someone with your knowledge to mess around with one of my songs.
Between 1:42-2:45, during his Computer+Guitar demonstration he uses his "new pick-up" attached to his guitar. Does anyone else know of another artist who uses this technique. I find it to be very impressive.
If you want some mind crushing sounds to infinity, get an ipod touch/iphone app called 'toplapapp' part of a live coding experiment. There's control, but also a random button that creates anything from odd samples usable for anything to what sounds like fully squenced patterns that evolve and morph. There's a couple examples posted here on youtube.
It would be nice if you could explain you guitar setup a bit more in detail. I use a synth guitar setup myself but the things you are doing with your rig are very interesting to me. If you get a chance please tell us more. Great stuff btw!
That shit with the pickup is fresh bro. Yo oughtta start making controllers for Dj's and make some cash. You got some leading edge stuff going on here man.. Peace
The guitar piece was great. I have a Variax but it can't be computer controlled on the fly. I like that you're into circuit bending as well and it isn't just controllerism. I definitely see you as a producer..not as a guy with a controller in a club as your primary gig. Recording artists always want a producer who can take their standard tracks and push them into another dimension..I think you can do that very well.
seems like a nice enough guy but honestly, in terms of electronic music (and even heavy music, as evident in his preview) this stuff is all pretty unremarkable. the fast stuff just sounded like your garden variety 5th generation Aphex/IDM exercise. the stuff with guitar and drums sounded like a Berklee School of Music entrance demo. the heavy stuff sounded like a typical local meathead metal band... I don't see what's so amazing, besides the fact that he's probably cool to smoke up with.
leave it to the world of youtube which allows any simple-minded coward to comment about every fucking thing...without ever having to put up a track of their own. do you have any idea how much work goes into this music? are you aware that this guy co-ran one of the best and longest running electronic music parties in New York? do you ever leave your room?
nah, didn't think so...
go listen to Coldplay or Madonna, I'm sure THEY'D be cool to smoke up with too.
he's your friend? sorry for being honest. he ran a cool party - awesome. my comment is only about this clip. if you're even slightly involved in electronic music, i'm surprised you haven't encountered at least one of the 1954482 dudes making knock-off Squarepusher/AFX/Autechre/IDM glitch etudes. what about underground heavy music? maybe you'd also realize this is extremely stale stuff. nice guy, respect on the DJing, but these tunes = generic. you post publicly = you get different opinions.
gosh, people are so sensitive here. yeah, i make music. PM me. i still don't understand though, in theory, why i should know about production and performance in order to state an opinion! what if i were just a longtime music listener? let's not hi-jack this page any longer. he's a cool dude, i think the controllerist stuff is fantastic actually. a lot of people will go apeshit over this album, and that's cool. i just think it's nothing fresh - try not to get butthurt over my opinion, ok?
2 months too late, but I had to add something since silenicakes has a reasonable argument.
Yeah, the glitch stuff isn't breaking any boundaries, but it is extremely well done. Unless Moldover is trying to redefine the genre, then I don't see a problem. If you can't get enough of that sound, then you'll probably love this album. If you think glitch IDM is tired, then this won't change your mind.
Silenicakes is right, but that is no reason to think this stuff isn't great.
I love it. You must suffer constant head aches coz ur brain much be pushing so hard against the edges of ur skull!
And you seem majorly down to earth, which i think is one of the main benefits of controlerism than using decks. Seams every person iv met behind a set of decks is a prick, must come with the equiptment.
Cant wait for the album.
(damn i want your controler! just dont have the guts/money to pull appart my stuff incase i fail)
i heard a rumor that that Modlover guy doesnt even use computers- those are just screen shots of his brain. he had usb 2.0 and firewire wet wired in one of hsi h4nds and one in his ear so the mixer just controls his brain directly. SICK!
It's so awesome how you're willing to show the whole process. It's really cool to see all of your talents come together too. Great vid, looking forward to the album, especially the speak and spell single, that is great!

I have inside knowledge that Moldover is a cyborg sent back from the future to help fight the war against controller manufactures.

the beat on the acoustic drums reminds me of chameleon by herbie hancock... subconscious, intentional, or neither?
also, i like your music--i'm a bass player, but i'm trying to get into controllerism too. your videos are very helpful in that aim. keep doing it.

Thanks for sharing Moldster, you should check out the Ztar as a good controller for your synths, no pitch > MIDI tracking errors or latency, hurrah.
There's a new BabyZ coming out too which is way affordable.
