it's so beautiful when i see perfect jumps =;D

  • This was extremely helpful to me. At least now I can pick apart the basic steps and maneuvers to improve my jump. I just happened to notice that each jumper had a way of extending their lead leg elbow [left leg leads = left elbow] over the bar first. Is that helpful, is that part of the process or does it just happen naturally because my right leg is my lead leg and for some reason this never happens...

  • the girl in purple shorts is rllly good =) ima try these drills

  • work more on the approach and take off,you have no power.poor technique .. all of you

  • good video. i really liked this. :)

  • I never did track and field (but I wish I did.. wish I knew it was more than running when I was in HS) but I was able to try out high jumping a week or two ago. I'm 6'0'' and I was able to work up to at least 5'6'' or so after watching a youtube video of some middle school kids doing it.. lol.

Anyways, I don't understand why you jump off of one leg? I'm sure there's a good reason, but wouldn't two legs generate more force? I'm a good box jumper, and two legs always makes for a higher jump.

  • @gavin32

Haha, you try that and see how it works out

  • @jordy274

I was jumping off both legs and it seemed to work out well. I guess I'll have to try one leg next time.

  • @gavin32 I THINK I can answer this question. The thing about the high jump is, obviously you must make it over the bar without knocking it over. With the one leg take-off, the jumper has the ability to have the leg that is propelling the body as well as the leg that will lead the body over the bar. So as one leg is planted into the ground to generate the force and power needed to lift off, the other leg is in the motion of kicking up so as to manipulate the body into "flopping" over the bar.

  • I jumped in high school back in 83-87 and never did any of this stuff. I could only imagine how high I could have jumped with the proper coach!

  • my sports day is cuming up n i got assigned 2 do high jump, i only realized wat it was yesterday nite. it seems a bit scary do u have any tips 4 new comers on dis sport???

  • oh my god. I´m in love with track and field...I want to be a trainer.

By the way, excellent video, editing, music and footage. it helped me a lot.

    Thanks. I´m a student.

  • Awsome video

  • they encline to fast , throwing themselves at the bar early...all of them and the dude has an incredibly long stride before takeoff... thow , an admirable effort :)

  • how how high is this?

  • I like the fact that drills are posted, but the assisted jumps are not the best way to coach a high jumper. More harm than good could come from it.

  • Any set of drills I can do for the volley ball? Thanks Jade

  • now I know proper warm-ups, thanks

  • What is the name of this song?

  • Daft Punk - Around The World

  • Thanks a lot, I will tell my coach about these in practice today and hopefully it will help out for 1A Regionals tommorrow and hopefully State next week!

  • brilliant song choice

  • do you know what it's called?

  • Daft Punk - Around the World

    From Homework album 1997

  • what do those first few drills do that are in the beginning of the video

  • Drill 1: Skipping Plant

    Drill 2: Gallop Drill

I believe too often there is too much emphasis placed on the free leg knee drive and no enough emphasis placed on the action of the takeoff leg.

  • The take off leg FIRES down into the ground and in a reaction the ground pushes back. Ideally, we desire as large a force as possible, exerted through a large range of motion as is possible, making it necessary for the center of gravity to go through a long vertical range of motion during the takeoff.

These drills are worked to try and emphasis a quick, forceful striking of the takeoff (left for these athletes) foot.

  • They are working on NOT rolling their foot or stumping their toe, but striking their foot, ripping and pulling through. Both girls do a really great job in the gallop drill. As a side note, try and do these drills on a soft surface.

  • Im 15 and a sophomore and i can jump 6'2" but i have terrible form i pretty much sit over the bar and if you have any drills to get my form better please reply

  • That's not bad,

I'm a sophomore to and my best jump is 6 feet but i'm only 67 inches tall, get some form and you should be at 6'6

  • At 2:30 that girl has great form, and i didnt mind the slow-mo either ; )
