you basically avoided every single quality band of the 90s. What about the RHP, AIC, Soundgarden and many more? Why all the one hit wonders? Who the hell thinks of most of these songs in retrospect anyways?
the 2 most liked comments are bullshit. I have my own taste of music and you guys do also but nirvana almost defined 90's music.. don't even deny it. the point is, is that he brought REAL music to the charts. do you know any other 90's band that would take over #1 spot over michael jackson??
smells like teen spirit really pissed me off being a huge nirvana fan and everyone being all have you heard that one song about deodorant? No im kidding it was like no one knew who they were before that song just like metallicas black album. god damn radio. Bleech is still my fav.
No, no1 is BS sorry but no. I hated that song, and I liked every song on this video... Sorry, but I don't think a guy WHINING in an un-understand voice, about something POINTLESS with random drum and guitar SMASHING, is a hit song...
The Verve and the Verve Pipe are two different bands... But you are thinking of the right one, you just got the wrong name. They had a few albums and there were quite a few hits. My favourite was the sequel to Bittersweet Symphony, The drugs don't work, with got just as much radio time.
The Verve Pipe didn't have just one hit - they had several hits from that album - it was just the one that people most remember because of the movie Cruel Intentions.
To say that Kurt Cobain could have done great things is ignorant because he did do great things with music/and still continues to inspire people with his music even after his death.
@Hailey122 The Verve and the Verve Pipe are two different bands... But you are thinking of the right one, you just got the wrong name. They had a few albums and there were quite a few hits. My favourite was the sequel to Bittersweet Symphony, The drugs don't work, with got just as much radio time.
Also, Oasis weren't trying to be the Beatles. If you read the story behind the album "What's the story morning glory" you would know that Liam actually wanted to write songs that sounded a certain way because they wanted to make a huge album. They purposely wrote songs that way. How about Pearl jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jeff Buckley!?, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Stone temple pilots.
That's cool you have an opinion - everyone's entitled to them, but I have to say the following. Marcy Playground were not a one hit wonder band. They just didn't have "commercial" radio play of their other songs. Also, to say that Kurt Cobain could have done great things, c'mon! He only shaped the sound of a generation and was in the biggest band in the world in the 90s...yeah spose that isn't much. If he had lived, I honestly think Nirvana would have broken up soon after anyway.
You want to know why so many people idolize Nirvana? It's not cause they're amazing, they're not, Kurt himself copped to that. It's cause they ended at the height of their popularity. They were a decent band with better than average songs. As soon as Kurt offed himself, he locked in their status as a 'Martyr band' and forged a fanatical following.
Opinion. i love nirvana and smells like teen spirit is a great song, but i don't think its the best. In my opinion, come out and play is the best 90s song by the offspring.
I put Nirvana in the same category as Elvis and The Beatles. They were the first to get famous by doing something different. Just because they were the first to get famous doesn't make them the best. As far as grunge goes, I think Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are a lot better. At least you can understand what the hell Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell are saying >_> Honorable mention goes to Alice in Chains, as well.
i used to love "smells like teen spirit". and then i read the lyrics. wtf??? made no sense whatsoever. for the chorus its like he just flipped to random pages in the dictionary and pointed to words and then threw them in there.
@sureqthirtyseven And so I go watch Tracey in a video singing live and she sounds nothing like a man. How could I think it was sung by a man this whole time lol
Personally, if Kurt cobain didnt commit suicide he wouldnt be cemented like he is now. he would have faded away with the whole grunge era. He was talented. Not saying he wasn't. But a fish can't live out of water. unless your one of those mud fish. hmm. maybe kurt cobain would have been a mud fish.
"Baby Got Back" and "Jump Around" are embarrassing!? I listen to Yes and even I like those songs! D:<
I forgot about "Closing Time," thank you for that. And "Fast Car."
You know, "Homeworld (The Ladder)" came out in 1999. It's not really "90's music" though. Still a great song. "Kernkraft 400" came out in '99, also! :D *Whoa ohohoh oh oh*
My favorite kind of music is early alternative which took place entirely in the 90's. Bands such as Nirvana, Linkin park, and green day were the ones that started genres such as Grunge, electric rock, and an exception of scream-o. i dot care what people say 90'S WAS THE NEST DECADE FOR ROCK N ROLL
@hugskisses8 "The Freshman" was a song by THE VERVE PIPE who is NOT the same band as THE VERVE. The Verve is English and The Verve Pipe is American... The Verve Pipe really being a one hit wonder. Don't bash other people do you have your music facts straight.
smells like teen spirit was not ''overhyped''.nirvana came along and totlally changed th landscape and sound of rock music with that song.its funny tho cause when that song came out i just thought they were another hard rock band i didnt realize at the time how much that song was gonna change everything and kill off all the hair bands that i loved so much back then.
Nirvana is one of the worst bands ever. Commercially hyped up and shoved down your throat. Listen to that muttering nonsense. You must love them. Cobain's death led to Foo Fighters. Far better group. Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were the best grunge bands.
Counting Crows was another group who made me turn off the radio.
hey, fivezombies, there are some songs from the 90s that I liked a lot as a kid when they appeared and don't feature here: spice girls, bingo boys, ace of base, shakira etc.
I'll give you every other "embarrassing" mark, but don't hate on Jump Around. EVERYBODY knew that song when it came out. It was even used in a Bridgestone commercial recently; a good one. What does that tell you?
@flutey28 I agree with you, Kurt Cobain was the voice of a generation. I am of the belief that he if had been around longer that proud voice would have become a whisper xx
@8RandomGuy8 - I agree! Original Busta Rhymes, Nas, old school Jay-z. Clearly the person that made this list must have been born late 90's cause they only knew the mainstream typical music. There wasn't anything embarrassing about this list.. that was just 90's music at the time.
I still love that song by Kriss Kross and can only dream that one day when I am rich to have a 90's party in my private dancehall and play that song and of course nirvana's "teen spirit." I to wonder what Kurt Cobain could have done with his music career had he lived longer, as well as Tupac, Aaliyah, TLC, and Biggie.
i have to disagree with your number 1 choice Although its an medeoaker song its far from the bst of the nineties even stoned kurt kobain is hard to listen too
@joma You sir, are a moron. Mediocre? It's one of the most recognizable songs ever. Kurt Cobain was one of the BEST artists ever. And that's not my opinion, but a fact put forward by many professional music critics. So no sir, the number 1 choice is CORRECT.
@BennyTheWhale - Oh come on, seriously? Cobain wasn't THAT great of an artist. He could write some good songs... okay. But he couldn't even play guitar that well. Dave Grohl (the drummer who went on to form the Foo Fighters) has more musical talent than Cobain did. People just like to say all this crap and talk big because Cobain is dead. Cobain wouldn't have been crap without the rest of Nirvana.
The fact that Dave and Kurt were both in the same band is why Nirvana became so good. Not to mention Krist was a very talented bass player. Cobain probably gets to much credit. But they were his songs.
And while Dave probably has more technical skills on both Guitar and Drums he isn't nearly as good a song writer. Lyrically Cobain was much more interesting and he wrote more consistent albums.
Also NIRVANA changed the music scene before he died, people were "talking big" in 1991.
@BennyTheWhale you sir are completely fucking retarded kurt kobain was a dumb fuck hack who blew his fucking brains out cause he couldnt handle reality and nirvana was far from the best songs of the ninties and what music critics do u know i know quite a few professional ones personally... heres how i know what im talking about ... i own my own recording studio y'ah fuck
@joma yes i own my own studio as well, and just because you know/work with music critics doesnt make you one AND each critics opinion varies, so your point isn't valid.
@fivezombies um....I know(I am assuming you are white but you shouldnt do the same)that the myth is "all Black people look alike".......but that guy with Ron "hedgehog" Jeremy is NOT Sir Mix-a-lot.
The Verve has another hit, the drugs don't work. I think. Radiohead was waaaaay batter than them anyway! And Marcy Playground rocks, check out there other stuff! And long december is the CC song you chose? Really??
This is mint, I love the captions, u r so funny. And I like even better that The Cranberries are in your Top 3, nice 1 ! Most ppl take the P outta them lol. xxx
i fucking like every single song on this video and fuck the ones thath dont the 90's were the shit I WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK IN TIME!!! maybe I would prevent Shannon Hoon to die :)!!! and he would be here playing and writting more awesome music, thats one of the things i would change!!
Actually - it just goes to show what a person with absolutely no taste and entirely dependent on the media to tell them what to think/like puts in a collection of songs from the 90s.
I dont have a vagina , so I like good music. I agree with Limp BizkitHATE THEM. The New Radicals HAHAHAHAHA. Cranberries were cool, but I got a thing for Irish chicks
As decreed by the Grandiloquent and Sacrosanct, who judge with the most exalted and sophisticated of standards, these songs are herald: "bad"! and the sire of this video as having: "shit taste"!
the captions are funny

@8RandomGuy8 - I agree! Original Busta Rhymes, Nas, old school Jay-z. Clearly the person that made this list must have been born late 90's cause they only knew the mainstream typical music. There wasn't anything embarrassing about this list.. that was just 90's music at the time.

BOOOO that song killed Kurt.
What0ley 1 year ago
I still love that song by Kriss Kross and can only dream that one day when I am rich to have a 90's party in my private dancehall and play that song and of course nirvana's "teen spirit." I to wonder what Kurt Cobain could have done with his music career had he lived longer, as well as Tupac, Aaliyah, TLC, and Biggie.

10111991 1 year ago
i have to disagree with your number 1 choice Although its an medeoaker song its far from the bst of the nineties even stoned kurt kobain is hard to listen too
joma 1 year ago
@joma You sir, are a moron. Mediocre? It's one of the most recognizable songs ever. Kurt Cobain was one of the BEST artists ever. And that's not my opinion, but a fact put forward by many professional music critics. So no sir, the number 1 choice is CORRECT.
BennyTheWhale 1 year ago
@BennyTheWhale - Oh come on, seriously? Cobain wasn't THAT great of an artist. He could write some good songs... okay. But he couldn't even play guitar that well. Dave Grohl (the drummer who went on to form the Foo Fighters) has more musical talent than Cobain did. People just like to say all this crap and talk big because Cobain is dead. Cobain wouldn't have been crap without the rest of Nirvana.
hogger129 1 year ago
@hogger129
Pigskin1126 1 year ago
@BennyTheWhale you sir are completely fucking retarded kurt kobain was a dumb fuck hack who blew his fucking brains out cause he couldnt handle reality and nirvana was far from the best songs of the ninties and what music critics do u know i know quite a few professional ones personally... heres how i know what im talking about ... i own my own recording studio y'ah fuck
joma 1 year ago
@joma yes i own my own studio as well, and just because you know/work with music critics doesnt make you one AND each critics opinion varies, so your point isn't valid.

Godsmack are epic, maybe even house of pain. And the Verve a one hit wonder ??
You've missed out about a million better artists too.
Seriously are you on crack?
littlemissschizo 1 year ago
Actually - it just goes to show what a person with absolutely no taste and entirely dependent on the media to tell them what to think/like puts in a collection of songs from the 90s.
selfpres 1 year ago
you say house of pain is embarrassing? you don't understand music do you?

I'am surprised you didnt have Hootie and The Blowfish at #1

Here Ye, Here Ye!
As decreed by the Grandiloquent and Sacrosanct, who judge with the most exalted and sophisticated of standards, these songs are herald: "bad"! and the sire of this video as having: "shit taste"!
Concur and acquiesce, or it is to the guillotine!
The Puerile Supercilious have spoken.
