  • It just might be one of the best ending, of all time. That women is brilliant. You can't act that kind of emotion - you have to get to "that real place", to deliver that kind of emotion. (..if look carefuly, you'll see that she is already in "that place" - nervous, mad etc, when that girl hands her the letter, but at that time, she controls it like an actor should, and when the time was right, she let it rain down.) Again - briliant.

  • every time I look at this it makes me cry.

perfect montage of feelings and song!

  • A really compelling ending to this movie. There's no sentimental attempt to pick-up where they left off 25 yrs. ago; in fact, Joe finds their meeting in the cemetery uncomfortable and "weird". Ruth's anguish at the end also strikes a truthful note: anyone who has regrets knows just how deep-seated they are. Her comments in the cemetery about her man-child husband suggest how hollow her marriage was. And Joe returning to LA and his housekeeper--perfect! The only woman who understands him.

  • At 50.00 minutes I had a little breakdown. Roxy Music or David Bowie? One couldn't choose, indeed. Within that little scene, you're sprung right back to when the every day was far more care-free. Well done film.

  • i love this f'n movie

  • I'm speechless. Intense. Superb.

  • effin love this movie :O!!!!!

  • great movie, love this movie so much..she scream out the pain inside, all these years, when she read his letter...

  • Thanks for posting. It is also my favourite scene :-)

  • Will always remember the movie when i listen to this song. Great movie.

  • Ta spaei k to clip!

  • ta spaei to tragoudi!

  • you cannot improve on perfection

  • When she breaks down at the end, its the most touching, most amazingly gut-wrenching scene. Not a word is spoken, but sh e finally cries and lets out twenty years of supressed heartache. What a scene!

  • Does Joe back to hollywood to revive his career in the end?

  • There is something special with this song.... The music & lyric's are just great. I watched the movie many times & I feel truly " Some Memories Never Fade"

  • If There Is Something" by Roxy Music the fist album

  • Which album does this soundtrack belong to?

  • he gave her a gift and she cried.....not the check...the memory.....this scene gave me goosebumps from head to toe. a brilliant mind made this movie!

  • i liked this movie but the director should've put a little more focus on boots, i felt like i barely knew him, the movie was too rushed in the end in my opinion, would've been nice to see some more development

  • I can totally agree with you on this. I was so focused on the "fling" he had with the neighbor girl that I forgot who "Boots" even was. Good movie but it lacks focus on what the movie is actually supposed to be about..

  • yup, it seems like this movie could've been a masterpiece had it been better developed. the casting of joe's sister(the adult version) is great but you barely get to know her, much like most of the characters.... i really think this is a case of lack of budget and time restraints causing the director to just try and finish the movie....

  • Totally agree with you there. It felt like one too many scenes involving Boots got chopped or something, especially given that he was a pivotal character. Otherwise it was flawless.

  • @schitzwatz Agreed! First time I saw this, I honestly thought it was an adaptation of a book and his part had just been cut down to nothing. He's supposed to be Joe's best friend but we barely see him :/

  • does anyone know who evelyn married after she split from her husband?? it seemed like it was that guy that yelled lude comments at ruth when they were kids in the billiards hall...

i only say that because joe seemed to know the guy n acted surprised, n his sis said the guy was violent etc

  • Yeah it was the guy that was swimming with Joe at the water hole that was doing the mangina thing.

  • Great song

  • the best film I watch the movie or listen to the soundtrack everyday... I did not know shaking my ponytail at 15 would have been the highlight of my life . I HOPE I CAN START AGAIN LIKE JOE

  • kocham tą piosenkę i ten film! <3

  • What a wonderful parting gift that he gave her... With just those few lyrics, he gave her the ability to grieve her lose. Powerful stuff! Even when the mind forgets, the song remembers when.

  • Young Ruth singing and dancing to this song was perfect!

  • finally know what this all about

  • this song was so perfect for this movie.

  • ruth as a teen is such an amazing actress!

  • I do not know exactly what it is about the ending of this movie that has me hooked, I must see it everyday!!!! The first time I saw it I cried with Ruth and I felt this pain of past time.....middle age is a 'female dog' ...

  • Love it

  • well said rukkus 5656 ..... i am 44 years old now its just great to think how many awsome memories i had at that age .roxy music and this scene are very powerful togeather.

  • how much was that check for?

  • por favor, que pelicula, me rompió el craneo, me dejó nostalgicamente quieto, leve.

  • Amooo esta pelicula!

  • Is this song really called "If there is something" by Roxy Music? Because whenever I look for this elsewhere I find a completely different song, I'm confused, can anyone help :(?

  • :L I've found out why I can't find it, this is about 1 and a half minutes into the song xD

  • listen to that song all the way through ;-)

  • The intro of the track "If there is something" by Roxy Music was omitted in the movie. In the film the track begins at 1:40, when you look it up and listen to the beginning, it seems to be different but it's not. Like I said, it was cut out to fit the scene. Don't believe me, type "Roxy Music - If there is something" in the youtube search, then select the video that is 6:35mins, now skip to 1:40 and Voila! It's the song you've been looking for. Let me know if need any further help. Anton

  • k lol thanks i realised after i listened to the 6:35 song :L

  • "Shake your head girl.. Takes me back when we were YOUG"

-This brings back memories & makes me a Flashback of a fool!!!

  • He brought back that special moment and along with it, all the memories of their childhood, the youth, the innocence, where anything was possible. she's not only mourning the loss of her husband, but everything that special moment brought back, which is now gone and lost, forever in the past.

  • Certainly, like a good song, this scene is open to many interpretations and that is a beautiful thing. It could be that her tears flow freely when she realizes that he actually remembered and even cherished a special afternoon together as teens--and that perhaps he was apologizing for the pain he had caused her by messing up their relationship. And the check--and his returning home--showed her true love, he wanted nothing but to help her and her kids keep their farm.

  • She cries, because she tells him (Joe)at the graveyard, since Boots died shes been unable to cry and the letter with the quote sends her off on one......its an open ended quote, but he manages to be able to get her to cry.........loved this movie..........

  • Or maybe she just realised he forgot to sign the cheque!!!

  • HAHAHA!

  • You are right. He was her first love and was crushed by his horrid behavior. Those simple words on that sheet of paper let her see that she was not alone in her memory of what happened on their night together and what it meant.

  • its not just the simple letter, someone mentions in the movie that the deceased husband has left ruth with a lot of financial difficulty, straight after writing the letter, you see him tear a cheque out of a cheque book and also put it in the envelope. Its not just the line, hes trying to make up for all his failings. really lovely scene.

  • This film really got under my skin. This was the absolute perfect song for it. It tore me up....and I mean really tore me up.

  • its now in my top five

  • really glad to see that so many people enjoyed this movie as much as i did. incredible movie.

  • Really fantastic on many levels!!

  • Great movie!!!

  • That is an awesome, memorable, powerful ending to this fantastic movie. He didn't think he had anything to offer by showing up, late, for the funeral, but he gave her the 'gift' of being able to cry and mourn with a few words that evoked a nice memory of when they were young--and perhaps thoughts of what might have been between the two of them. And it seems that he was able to smile again after being so kind to her. Maybe his burden was lifted as he helped relieve hers.

  • Yea... Definitly he finally made her cry whit the letter

    but why?

    -Because she remember his husbend

    -Because she remember him

-Because she felt that he was selfish by try to make har remember him not her husbend and he was proposing to her again?

And why the two points and the X at the final of the letter ?

  • x means "kiss" if i get it right..

somwhow i do really love this movie..great one

  • damn true! this scene made me cry as well, this last scene in the movie swept it all. 'Shake your head girl.. Takes me back ..... sez it all

  • this scene is one of the most amazin i ve seen in contemporary films, makes me cry everytime i see it, gives such a lesson to everybody about many things, small things that dont see meaningful at the time but cud ve been life changing. • this made me cry

  • :o)

  • very powerfull

  • That's how these kind of movies should end!

    Awesome

  • Great movie,I don't understand low ratings

  • This has to be the most profound movie I have ever scene. I dont know if that is because I was a Child of the Seventies or what, But this movie hit straight at my heart as I could feel for Daniel Craigs character after I myself had lost loves through stupidity at having been a naive young Kid living in the 70's 5Stars!

  • The movie reminds me of "The Ice Storm".

  • yes it does, but I enjoyed this one way better...did the ice storm have music?

  • awesome movie

    daniel craig for president!

  • Fuck yeah this one of the best movies i see from last year should be honor for an Oscar at list such shame by Hollywood to appreciate films like this that are very touching stories when sometimes we as a person we see our self in some kind of situation like this Thank you for making this movie.

  • that scene, blows the ashesto many people .... it seems that many of us would be back .... when are you young would be a good movie to the end of my life .... is a great archetype

  • This is music and video used perfectly.. with soul.. deep and stirring.. thank you baille..

  • A movie hasn't hit me like this since Braveheart's woman got killed in the beginning. She hit it right when she opens that letter. I think its 150,000 btw.

  • Awesome!!! Best movie ending ever!!!

  • that's the most sad and pretty scene i've ever seen. despite its sadness i fall in love with and watching it over and over again. and this genius song..

  • well said ! >>nomorebeans.

  • Wow! The most powerful scene in the whole movie set to Roxy music! Sometimes we don't understand life until we are a fool flashing back on what was and what could have been......if only.

  • When Claire says: "Hello Joe.".. I wonder if Bailie meant really reference to Meet Joe Black:)?

  • ......and that is life! great movie!!

  • i think we need to see Baillie Walsh as a great director of films as well as of music videos now

  • Very good film, wonderful ending!

  • can anyone explain me the end of this movie???

i'm sorry but i really couldn't set it...

  • Try to watch the film again, think and I'm certain you'll get it. I'm certain you're intelligent and can do it. And on the whole you don't need people to think for you.

  • great movie! and they don't make music like that anymore!

  • I always get goosebumps when I watch this scene. :s

  • this is one of the most moving endings ever for a movie

  • thank you, my lady. :)

  • what is the name of this song and version is it ??

  • If there is something - Roxy Music

    It's missing the beginning though...

  • I still can't find this version.

  • This song is on Itunes..Roxy Music.. If there is something....the part of the song that is in this scene does not start until 1:45 into the song...the song seems like three different songs together, but is amazing...hope this helps!!

  • seeing the final scene always makes me cry, the song is beautiful

  • Bryan Ferry himself cried at this scene - brilliant film, deeply moving, Daniel Craig outstanding throughout - I loved this film.

  • How do you know this?? man, what a great interpretation...so glad I got to see this little gem of a movie..and tell Bryan I think he is the BALLS!!

  • man i love this movie...im not too crazy about the sex scenes but still very very good!

  • I almost cried during Ruths breakdown.

  • God. hadnt seen a cool movie in a while. Luv it. Great acting.

  • Gosh, this sequence is so touching! I almost cried when Claire Forlani breaks down. I've seen this video so many times over and can't get enough of it still. The Felicity Jones dance sequence was more powerful and moving in this scene than the earlier one. Daniel Craig owns in this seq too! Thanks for uploading!!
