  • In this days (in Italy) I need a giant teru teru bozu^^ It's so wet =^.^=

  • "..we need two..tish tish!.." adorable!! lol

  • It's a tremendous asset to a person to have 2 "first languages" I hope she continues exploring both languages!

  • @Eaglegirl12 I hope so too! Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • @Eaglegirl12 It is a great thing to know different languages at a young age, but it doesn't always turn out great. My brother and I were taught Japanese once we were teenagers but my father decided to teach my little sister while she was a baby. She's 8 now and has trouble talking. She has stuttering like problem and has trouble getting her sentences out right. I guess it depends on how it's taught to the child.

  • @Eaglegirl12

yes~ coz u can backstab people and get away with it! loljk~

here in the Philippines most ppl know english. O_O

  • kawaii ¡¡

teru teru bozu teru bozu *ç*

  • Aaaaww this is sooo kaawaaaaaiiii ^^

  • Even if her dad is bilingual I still find it jaw dropping amazing everytime I see a child just switching between English and Japanese as if it was childs play. It really is revitalizing. Also love these small Japanese cultural facts

  • @BaHayaDK Haha, I know my dad is, too :) I was raised bilingual my whole life, and when I was about three or so I had to get the two languages straightened out because half of the words in my sentences were in japanese, and the other half were in english, so then nobody could understand what i was talking about, LOL! Good times.. haha XD

  • awww kawaii desu~ Emily to teru teru bozu :D

  • Magic ^__^

  • aww shes so cute =) i did one :3 and i loved it~

  • gera gera to ur childrens

  • She runs outside when she sees her friend - sooo cute! Kids are awesome. Are you living in Japan?

  • what? the last pranse means snip off its head so do u really snip it off?

  • she is so cute so is she asian???

  • kawaii. :3

  • She's so pretty !

  • As a child I would watch episodes of the cartoon Ikkyu-san. I never knew what the little ghost was for until now. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy.

  • These remind me of what I used to make a few years ago around Halloween time! ^_^ But they weren't a Teru Teru Bozu.... it was a ghost! I made millions of them and hung them in the trees.

  • とても面白い習慣ですよね。俺も幼稚園時によく作ってました。

  • Can you only use a teru teru bozu once...if you can reuse them I think that I'd like to crochet or knit one. -BrishenAlston

  • @BrishenAlston I am not aware of any rules regarding reuse of teru teru bozu. I think that it would be fine to make something permanent. I rather like this idea! ~Kurt :-)

  • Arigatou!!!

    Thanks for the video!!!

    Kawaii!!!^^

  • haha cute. :]

must be like have Negi Springfield-sensei as a teacher ^_^

I'll have to take some tissues from school :p

  • aww emilys realy good at her english!!!

  • aw ^_^ so cute.

  • Fantastic!!!!! ^^

  • Aww. :3 This is cute. I'm going to make my own teru teru bozu right after I'm done watching this. Thanks for the video. :)

  • Comment removed

  • great video .. im going to make my own teru teru bozu ..

  • Emily did a fine job. It is so unusual to see the complete lyrics for teruterubozu. Usually the last lyrics are omitted "if you should fail me I will cut off your head" HAH.

  • So adorable! She looks exactly like my little sister, sounds the same, and actually has the same name. She is eerily similar... haha. Keep the videos coming!! ^-^

  • Isn't Teru Teru Bozu supposed to be like for when friend's separate and they want to keep sunshine in eachother's lives or something similar to that?^^

  • oooh cool

  • This looks fun, I may try it. Though arts & crafts has always been my worst subject, this should be easy enough...

Cute little girl by the way, is she your daughter?

  • Hello elsamuraiguapo, Thanks for watching! I'm happy to hear that you found the video interesting. Yes, Emily is indeed my daughter. Have fun making your own teru teru bozu! -Kurt :-)

  • Naruhodo, if she's your daughter then that must mean your wife is Japanese. Urayamashii, I want a nihon-jin no onna for me some day!

By the way, greetings from a fellow California native =)

  • The teru teru bozu song sounds alot like the Tooryanse song

  • Oh, Emily's very lovely and cute~ I Ioved her tutorial video and explanation about teru teru bozu. Thanks for uploading! ^^

  • Loove little Emilys teru teru bouzu instructional video! Would love to use it as a demo for my craft booth where I plan to sell teru teru bozu ornaments. too cute and just the way I made them when I was a little girl!

  • arigato gozaimashita

  • Emily is so cute!! <3 What a wonderful teacher she is! :] I'm definitely going to make these to hope for nice weather when I go to Baltimore this weekend!! :3

  • Hello RandomAnimeLover, I hope that the teru teru bozu helped! -Kurt :-)

  • aww emily is so adorable! and making them is much easier than i thought. thank you for putting up the vid. btw what did she do at about 4:43? gira gira?

  • Hello kunai11, Thank you for your nice words. I think that "gira gira" is the squinty eyed response to bright light. Therefore the "gira gira" comment Emily makes is a reference to the squinty eyes on the one teru teru bozu which she says has "gira gira power". I hope that I have this right. -Kurt :-)

  • haha teru teru bozu look like ghost's...are they like that for a reason, im from britain and i to am going to make some...i just hope no one steal's them hehehe

  • I'll teach this to my little bro :)

    Greetings from Spain

  • Hello eefritlombarda, I hope that you and your younger brother have a lot of fun together making teru teru bozu. Our little Emily just finished making another which she has hung outside. It's pool day tomorrow and she wants to ensure that the day is sunny. I hope that tomorrow is a nice sunny day for you in beautiful Spain! -Kurt :-)

  • I love the idea, is to easy to make it! I´m from Mexico and I´m gonna make one LOL!

  • Hello TheLittlePurpleBow, Great idea! It seems that teru teru bozu are popular now in various countries. Thanks for sharing your great idea! -Kurt :-)

  • Emily is so cute :) Was she shy about singing on camera, or was that for effect?

  • Hello neslock, Thank you for your kind words. The off-camera singing was Emily's idea as she thought that this would make the video more interesting. -Kurt :-)

  • she's adorable thank you emily!

    Is she half japanese?

  • Hello CityHello, Thank you for your kind words which I will share with Emily. Yes, Emily is indeed half Japanese (I'm American). -Kurt :-)

  • Thank you for teach us to make a teru teru bozu!.

    5stars for Emi

  • Hello robertyada, Thanks for your kind words which I will share with Emily. -Kurt :-)

  • Dear Emily, Thank you for showing how to make Teru teru bozu! I teach 100 children how to make things at an outdoor daycamp. I am so impressed with your Teru teru bozu that I am going to teach my campers how to make them. I have learned the song in Japanese, so I can teach that to them also! We have been having a lot of rain lately and now we want it to be sunny so we can play and have more fun. I hope you will make lots more videos with your father and mother to share with us!!!

  • Hello janeak, Thank you for writing and for your kind words. Emily is asleep now though you can be sure that I will share your message with her first thing in the morning. I know that she will be happy (as am I) to hear that other children will have a chance to enjoy the fun of making these wonderful Japanese dolls and possibly even singing the song in Japanese! You seem like a wonderful teacher and I am sure that your students are very fortunate to study with you. -Kurt (and Emily) :-) :-)

  • Today, the 6 & 7 years olds made the dolls and we hung them up outside our Arts and Crafts cabin while we all sang the song!!! Some of the children decided they would like some rain (it was over 90 deg. today) so they hung theirs upside down. LOL!!! They all said to tell Emily "Thanks" for sharing her dolls with us! I could here them singing the song as they left for their next program. I'm very proud of those kids and thank Emily, too, for teaching us so well!

  • Also, this week's camp theme is Friendship Week. We are going to start making a Friendship Garden and will be making signs with our names on them to include in the garden. We will add Emily's name (if she doesn't mind) to our garden so we can honor her as a special friend from far away.

  • Hello janeak, I shared your latest messages with Emily and my wife and we are all thrilled to hear about how your students were able to make teru teru bozu and even sing the song! You really made our day sharing this with us and Emily especially is so happy that she could share a little of Japan with kids in other parts of the world. And thank you so much for your kindness in adding Emily's name to a plaque in the garden. Your kindness is moving and appreciated by my entire family. -Kurt :-)

  • Emily

I love your video. You are adorable. You look like some people I know and want to get together with someday soon.

If their is a version of Teru teru bozu that causes people to visit.... please make five. Muchas gracias. Wildman in Mexico.

  • Hey Wildman! Thank you for your kind words which I will share with Emily. I will also check with Emily if there is a teru teru bozo to bring visitors. That would indeed be a neat version to have! Please give a pat on the head of Razzy and Latte from me! -Kurt :-)

  • They're really meaningful and cute.

Keen to learn! I can give it as a present, no?

    :D

  • Hello junievideos, Thank you for watching! I think that it is alright to give teru teru bozu as a present though this is not commonly done in Japan. -Kurt :-)

  • aww she s soo cute i love teru teru bonzu ad i want to lern the song :)

  • Hello lovemax95, Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to hear that you lived the video. As for lyrics: I have included an English translation of the teru teru bozu song in the info section of this posting. Just click on the "more info" link to see. I hope that this is helpful. -Kurt :-)

  • haha she's so cute and has alot of charisma ^^

Thanks for sharing the teru teru bozu.

Lets make tomorrow a good day =)

  • Hello hoji808, Emily and I really enjoyed making this video together. I will share your kind words with her. Thank you for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)

  • Haha you replied fast ^^

    Thank you for that.

I'm fascinated by the japanese culture, myths and history.

Your daughter taught me another cool thing :D

Hmmm can u guess what Hoji means? :D

I'll give you a clue. Its from a myth. (Its also an era but my name doesn't refer to it :P)

    Anways keep it up!

Oh and I want to eat in that Soba Noodle Restaurant. It looked delicious!

  • Hello hoji808, I share your interest in Japanese culture. However, I'm afraid that I do not know what "Hoji" means and the historical context you refered to. I'd love to learn though! -Kurt :-)

  • Its from a japanese myth.

Hoji is a ghost that sleeps in an upright pillar in a traveling road, Any passanger that takes a nap against the pillar is killed by it.

    ^^

Anyways im subscribing to you :D

  • Hello hoji808, Wow, that is an amazing story and one I had never heard before. Thank you for sharing! I love a good ghost story and the Japanese stories, like yours, are so interesting. Thanks again! -Kurt :-)

  • Ok I was jelous be for but now.... well lets just say great job

  • Hi Dave, I hope that teru teru bozu will come in handy for you when your new baby arrives. It's a good daddy-kid activity which may even help clear a cloudy day! -Kurt :-)

  • Hello Windowlicker77, Thank you for your kind words. I love the "time capsule" effect that family photos and videos have and how their importance and significance grow with the years. Thank you for viewing and commenting. Your thoughts and observations are greatly appreciated. -Kurt :-)
