I wish those who posted these videos would let me hear the offers at each stage of the game and see the board too. Then I could work out if the player is making sensible choices based on arithmetical / mathematical logic rather than superstitious mumbo jumbo. That's the only thing this game is good for. The rest is BS.
Well, usually people don't know if they're going to ruin their chance for a million because they don't know what's in the cases (like Brooks), but I do agree that Mary is a fool because even though she had one of the worst games ever, I still don't think she should have tried for the penny.
Yeah, it was!! But what's even funnier was her pathetic, miserable attitude towards the end: "After today, I pray to God that this is the penny. Give me the penny!". She's one of the worst contestants ever...Heather McKee is the undisputed queen of epic DOND losers.
DO NOT APPLY TO THIS SHOW IF YOU PLAN ON MAKING A COMPLETE FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF ON NATIONAL TELEVISION LIKE THIS WOMAN. She's got to be one of the dumbest people on the face of the Earth for ruining a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win ONE MILLION DOLLARS. And Brooks Leach is even dumber for ruining this game TWICE, if there was a contest for "the dumbest DOND contestants ever" he would win it!
Gerardo...Mary didn't have much of a chance. $51,000 was her highest offer, and then 1M and 400K. $31,000 could have been taken twice, but even with only 500K, could you take 31K with eight cases left to play? Not only is it less than half the mean (66,250), but could you risk selling $500,000 for 6.2% of its value?
And the moment you choose the 1M, you've ruined a shot at 1M. You call her dumb for just picking a case that randomly held 1M? So by round 8, you have a 23/26 chance of being dumb!
Yes, you're right, this could have happened to anyone, even to Michele Falco because she knocked out the $6M and $3M earlier in the game. But I meant to say that Mary's attitude became VERY mediocre: She said, "After today, I pray to God that I have the penny! Give me the penny!". And THAT is why I think she was one of the worst contestants ever.
It's not necessarily a bad attitude to want the penny, but to "ask" for the penny, I think is too much...
The way I think she sees it is: If I get the penny, cool. I only lost $5.99 to do it, unlike Heather McKee later who gave up $5,499.99. If I don't get it, hey, I made four bucks. :)
In the end, either the $50, the penny, or maybe both may be in the last two. So pretty much she'll win what's in her case. From the $22 standpoint, only the sequence that occurred would lead to neither goal being fulfilled. Either the $10 or the penny going would lead to an improvement over $22, and losing the $50 and then winning the penny would accomplish the goal of being the biggest loser. The total chance is 5/6 of either of them happening.
I also disagree with people who don't want to win the penny and deal, but don't see there are five cases in the game and winning the penny can be avoided four more times after this!
It's simply the inverse of the people who claim that the $1,000,000 is in their case, but are not willing to perform by turning down the next three offers and deciding whether to swap or not. Look a bit ahead and THEN decide what you believe about your case.
I have that episode

Does she even know the goal of the game??!!
RomeijnLand 3 years ago
Of course she does.
But her game rapidly fell apart, and since the penny was still there, she hoped at least to be the first winner of the penny.
Zguy09 3 years ago
Understandable, i would, however still try to win as much as possible.
RomeijnLand 3 years ago
The goal at the beginning of the clip was to win the $50.
And she's still trying to win as much as possible at the end. She could have taken the $6 if you prefer.
quadrupleplay 3 years ago
That's better than $.01
RomeijnLand 3 years ago
And worse than $10.
quadrupleplay 3 years ago
I think you forget that by turning down the $6, she will accomplish either: winning the penny, or winning as much as possible.
quadrupleplay 3 years ago
Yeah, but when she turned down the $22, she already wanted to win the penny, and she wanted to take the $50 out. In such a situation, i'd take $22.
RomeijnLand 3 years ago

Don't make such a big deal out of it. I just disagree with everyone who says: "Well, I'd rather win $.01 than $50" or something like that.
