Why do americans pass their driving licenses in automatics and not manual transmissions,to change from a manual to an automatic is great fun (your left foot is looking for the clutch :D )but vice-versa will be a nightmare .
So if i have the plus and minus signs to the right of my 350z, do i put it in the plus, hold down the brake all the way, put in some gas and then let go of the brake and hit the gas? and then from there what do i do? someone please help
I am watching this because i will visit my friend in Texas , and will rent a car ( im from France ) , and i never even seen an automatic . We all drive manual here .
What about those of us who don't want to dick around with a century old system that makes driving a chore and a misery? I like driving automatic so I can focus more on the road instead of the damn car, and so that driving is 10x more chill, stop and go when it's appropriate. No clutch, no gears, no hassle. Start and Stop, just like a dodgem.
@eaglewings8 Look at your comment "...focus more on the road instead of the damn car...driving is 10x more chill..." I don't know about you but i'd be less focused if i was very relaxed. Plus safe driving requires focus on both car and road.. But I must admit, an autobox is very helpful for drivers with disabilities, or those who just want to get somewhere without stressing so much
I'm going for my driving test soon and the only reason i've picked automatic is coz its soooo easy and I need to be on the road fast to get the job I'm after. I honestly don't see why some people look down on me for wanting to drive an automatic! Its one less stress to worry about and I couldn't care less about so long as I get where I'm trying to go.
@jsiszero i'm only comfortable and totally confident and at ease when driving manual/stick shift. But with automatic i feel somewhat disconnected when i have to slow down during traffic. Feels like i'm about to fall off my seat sometimes! Any insight on this???
I honestly can't get my head around why i would ever want to drive an automatic when im perfectly capable of changing gears myself. It's just sheer laziness.
guys lets just face it, people have their own decisions in life, so please dont judge if they drive an automatic transmission,, its their decision. Not just because its easy, but it has its own difference in manual cars such as no clutch replacement etc.
P.S -- i dont hate manual cars, i drive them. because i own one. i just posted this to help some people understand that number of drivers in the world are not just drivin A/T to make it easy for them.
@eaglewings8 thats why I got an automatic, regardless of the smack people would give me. I don't care, I wanted a chill ride, and that's what I got. When I cruise, I'm so chill..
@eaglewings8 Im not seeing how it is outdated or counterintuitive, considering that a manual transmission is stil 15% more efficient than any automatic thanks to a direct connection in the power train and not a fluid drive.
In Europe, automatic cars are pretty much rare. Driving automatic is equal to driving a bike, while driving manual on the other hand is HELL, especially a petrol one!
im 12 and my parents taught me how to drive. they brought me to an empty field and let me drive. I tried manual and it was difficult. But thats because im 12.
@VinnyboiiDeezy omg i drive too today and im 12 too ;) i drove manual to and it was hella difficult D: omg when i released the cluth and tried to drive ( stamp on the gas ) it like '' jumped '' . u need to do it very easy ( to release the clutch otherways it will turn off ( the car :D )
@thegalmanater Lots of people outside America don't have access to automatic cars, so we do need videos like this when learning how to shift our skills from manual to auto. It's not "stupid" at all.
Thanks from the uk , I have never touched or driven a automatic but seen my mum and dad drive their kia Sedona which is auto but now i need to learn how drive a auto because of a coordination problem which makes gearing for me very diffcult and i am having real trouble with the clutch.

@mathieuemi666 the only reason for beign in a car is to drive to ur destination. there is no other reason anybody drives unless you are doing a track day on a race track. It's about purphouse. All cars are the same to drive regardless how much power you have. they all run on rubber tyres and 4 wheels. There all the same. havign different power does not alter the theory of how a car works. a car is still a car. every car runs on rubber tyres
@210482fmj so true, traffic on a manual is just horrible and nerve wrecking, automatic is so much mmore chill just press a pedal. but manuals are so fun
Seriously!!!!!!!! i didnt know it would be tht easy or i would bought automatic from the start haha. but honestly i somehow enjoy the manual and clutch drive, but in same time it gave me hard time at the beginning of my driving days as i wasnt push so hard on it so the stick gets stuck from me lol..... grt video

Driving manual cars used to make a lot of sense in the past (easier to maintain, less gas, more speed, etc) but that has chenged. @boulespuantes The only difference is the gearbox, right? I know very solid automatic transmission. Just look at taxis all over the world with a million km and an automatic gearbox.
Automatic cars can go far as well, if you respect the mechanics (no full-throttle and max RPM after cold start, no long periods of high RPM heating the engine. No 500 m or 1/2 mile trips, no hard launches and starting too fast.
However, I hear all day long people saying they've to change their clutch after 90 kkm...
i thought manual cars were distinct i really did but i c yall utubers still talkin about it so i think manual is a big waste of time like y by a manual car when u can get an autmatic and all u stupid idiots talkin about u cant drive if u dont know how to drive manual just bc u drive manual doesnt mean youre driving thats not the definition of driving driving is knowing how to keep your car on the road wen in motion not sure but i know the definition isnt manual car so gtfo please
i have a friend.. im teaching her to drive an a/t and u know i said to step on the brake she stepped on the gas!i guess she was confused! i was so nervous because im teaching her how to u turn and when i said reverse she did not even step on the brake before reversing!!...she's always on the very very side of the road sometimes i think we're just going to bump in a gutter! thank god there's no cars that time
@Kenneth9725 P is for park, R for reverse, D for drive, 3 for locking ur transmission in 3rd gear, 2 for locking ur transmission in 2nd and 1 for locking in 1st, u'll have to stop ur car in park, it will lock the wheels like e-brake, and after starting press the brake peddle and shift into D to drive or shift in R for reversing the car, u can use gears 3,2,1 for ur ease on steeps and in bad weather conditions. sorry for my bad english
@Devilshionfly no, your english is good. thanks!! but I'm still abit confused on those 3 2 1 gears. ok for example, if im about to go up a mountain, should i change to 3 or 1? And, I must step on the brake peddle and then change?
@Kenneth9725 it depends that if ur car is getting under load then u can shift down to 2 or 1 and no u can shift these gears normally, only from P to R, R to D or P to R are shifted after stopping. not quite sure about the peddle thing, :-s
@BALJIT147 its not as simple as that. I drive manual. I tried driving automatic once in my whole life, and it was out of my comfort zone! when you get in to a automatic for the first time(especially a sports car, u get nervous as there is not clutch-hence no biting point. it feels as if when ur in the red traffic lights and ur scared u will crash stright in to the bumper of a expensive sports car in front of you. it feels very awkard to gas as there is no control like the cluth in a manual.
@Theshofumiah1 first few things i ever drove were manual(before i had my license and in another country on vacation and steering wheel on opposite side) and then all the cars after that including the one i own now are automatic, don't see a big difference
@BALJIT147 Yep, but you know. There are a lot of people (especially) women that are just very afraid to drive differently and it helps to know the basics.
The gear selector isn't obvious for everyone. Yeah "P, D, and R" is all what you should know, but you can usually find "D-3, 2, L, S, +, -, N" and it seems very complicated first if you have no idea what is this about and you are afraid to break something.
I got a car that's an automatic and it has the letters in the or P, R, D, 3, 2, L(I assume "L" is 1st gear). I read some where that driving in the lower gear is good for stop and go Traffic. Yet in a manual transmission when the car stops, it stalls. Is that true in an automatic too?

@210482fmj I'm driving a manual right now because it's cheaper but I like to drive auto.
However, I'm afraid there are three kind of people:
1. The ones that don't like cars.
2. The ones that want a car because it's useful.
3. The ones that want a car which is fun to drive.
You're in the second category.
Everybody is different, and everybody likes or dislikes cars for different reasons.

@210482fmj Sorry, but I think 100% enthousiasts and people that knows something about it can tell you this is completely wrong.
First, what do you think is the reason of existence of "cabriolets" and other 2-seaters?
Why do you think we have a radio in our car (only in the case you're stucked in a tunnel?)
I ride a bike with friends we go from A to B and back to A. So there was no destination! Then why did we do it?
All cars are different. An offroad vhc is very different from a supercar!!!

Can anyone teach me the symbols for automatic gear? Like P, R, D, 3, 2, 1 etc.. ? Please teach me when to change to which gears.. Thanks! :D
Kenneth9725 8 months ago
@Kenneth9725 P is for park, R for reverse, D for drive, 3 for locking ur transmission in 3rd gear, 2 for locking ur transmission in 2nd and 1 for locking in 1st, u'll have to stop ur car in park, it will lock the wheels like e-brake, and after starting press the brake peddle and shift into D to drive or shift in R for reversing the car, u can use gears 3,2,1 for ur ease on steeps and in bad weather conditions. sorry for my bad english
Hope that helped.
Regards
Devilshionfly 8 months ago
@Devilshionfly no, your english is good. thanks!! but I'm still abit confused on those 3 2 1 gears. ok for example, if im about to go up a mountain, should i change to 3 or 1? And, I must step on the brake peddle and then change?
Kenneth9725 8 months ago
@Kenneth9725 it depends that if ur car is getting under load then u can shift down to 2 or 1 and no u can shift these gears normally, only from P to R, R to D or P to R are shifted after stopping. not quite sure about the peddle thing, :-s
Devilshionfly 8 months ago
do you also have to press the brake when you start the car?
racingfan1083 8 months ago
@racingfan1083 not really, if ur car is in Park its okey to start it without brake

is there really a point for this video? put it into drive and go
BALJIT147 9 months ago 66
@BALJIT147 its not as simple as that. I drive manual. I tried driving automatic once in my whole life, and it was out of my comfort zone! when you get in to a automatic for the first time(especially a sports car, u get nervous as there is not clutch-hence no biting point. it feels as if when ur in the red traffic lights and ur scared u will crash stright in to the bumper of a expensive sports car in front of you. it feels very awkard to gas as there is no control like the cluth in a manual.
Theshofumiah1 8 months ago
@Theshofumiah1 first few things i ever drove were manual(before i had my license and in another country on vacation and steering wheel on opposite side) and then all the cars after that including the one i own now are automatic, don't see a big difference
BALJIT147 8 months ago
@BALJIT147 Yep, but you know. There are a lot of people (especially) women that are just very afraid to drive differently and it helps to know the basics.
The gear selector isn't obvious for everyone. Yeah "P, D, and R" is all what you should know, but you can usually find "D-3, 2, L, S, +, -, N" and it seems very complicated first if you have no idea what is this about and you are afraid to break something.

MANUAL IS BETTER
Resurreccion777 9 months ago 4
I got a car that's an automatic and it has the letters in the or P, R, D, 3, 2, L(I assume "L" is 1st gear). I read some where that driving in the lower gear is good for stop and go Traffic. Yet in a manual transmission when the car stops, it stalls. Is that true in an automatic too?
