This is funny when you are on the OTHER side! I remember going through boot camp at Parris Island, and being scared shitless almost the entire time! I think it made me a better person though. I don't ever regret going through!
Welcome to my beloved corps ladies, i am to be your DI these next 3 monthes, as a DI my job is to break u down as civilians, and build u up stronger and more honorable as marines. i am not your friend, pal, buddy, or even aquaintence, if u are to fail, and u become a faiure, traitor, or supposed enemy, it is my failure as a DI and i will gladly resign, but for these next 3 monthes, your queer-asses, are to be mine, so get out there before i gouge out your eyes and sll fuck you all
Hey, pal, I gave you another positive rank, that makes your comment +2. Were you a DI yourself? How did you happen to type dialogues like this one? So exact! My salute to you!
haha, oh hell no bro, im 15 years old, ur kidding me, ive been to parris island and camp lagune though, so dont assume nuthin, but haha, i love the corps, i cant wait to get outta high school and i need to decide between ocs or just boot camp, and btw, at the end i didnt type this but its supposed to be ill gouge ur eyes out and skull fuck u. haha
apparently most of the people dont understand the purpose of BootCamp. You see they take everything that you know of as "real" and "secure" from you. In order to prepare you for the challenge of your lifetime. Bootcamp will strip you of your fears and your false notions of self. Then when everything seems impossible. You must look towards you peers and conquer it through togetherness.
"After surviving a walk through fire, there is little else that can burn."
The point is to get you used to things that are unrealistic, they have to get you to a point where the stress of war is just an everyday feeling. It isnt really punishment because no matter how well you do something, it isnt good enough. It makes you work harder than you ever have in your life and you become something unbelievable when its over. It took me 18 years to finally be ok with being a civilian.Sometimes I think Im only fooling myself.Ill never really be like the other civilians.
I'm sure something like that exists, I know the D.O.R. does (Drop on Request). The whole point of boot is to weed out everyone who cant take the pressure, my dad was an Air Force D.S. and I'm joining the Marine Corps this summer.
I mean the drill is definitely important to toughen them up but i dont see any point in group punishment (code red) like done in the movie with private paula. that just makes no sense.
Group Punishment is to press into their minds that they need to help their fellow soldiers, because if their friend fucks up,they could end up dieing as well. So yeah, might be smart to encourage each other.
The primary purpose of drill (now) is to instill in the recruit an instinctive willingness to obey a command immediately and correctly. Combat requires that the proper action take place when and as directed, or people very well might die.
Group punishment (within reasonable limits) teaches recruits that they are no longer an individual. The smallest manoeuver unit is a 2 man fire team...there is ALWAYS someone relying on you. One idle soldier can literally endanger an entire Pl or Coy.
cool, my dad used to be spetznaz luitenant in the old soviet union, he said that they trained him every day for litterly anything that can happen on the battle field, to a point where he could do it without a drill, anyway the whole point is that moral and lack of confusion on the battlefield can only be achieved by drilling techniques into soldier's heads, proggraming, conditioning, whatever you want to call it, so that they can perform it mechanicaly
I was in basic, Ft. Sill, OK May 1988 - Aug 1988. Our Battery got to watch Full Metal Jacket on July 4th as a "treat". We didn't know that USS Vincennes had shot down an Iranian commercial jet the day before. Most of our DS's were VN Vets and they were motivated once we started training again on July 5th. Whether it was the movie or the shoot down, I don't know. It was hell though. Zero week, Hell week, whatever, we started all over again. Good times.
The Army has changed from "you're a fucking puke, you're parents fucked up, you piece of shit you don't deserve to be here" to more of a "come on, don't let us down" type of mentality. At least in ROTC that's how it was. You still get your ass reamed if you fuck up, only shit gets explained. Like a kid miscounted his squad and had to hold his rifle out paralell for a long time while the Sgt. reamed his ass and explained that if he did this in the field he would have fucked a lot of shit up.
Well, in boot camp the thinking is that they totally break you down and turn you into a new human being psychologically, which is what they have to do, you have to be hard enough that nothing bothers you.
The way my company CO in basic explained it to me was "shaking the soft-bellied civvy shit out of you and replacing it with a useful mentality". Works too :D
dont even fukin start with that shit. it was the most intense piece of my life. the crucible made my mind want to die and just give up, quit bootcamp. thats what your squad is there for.
were pyle real, he'd have failed the physical, or bumped into a special course where he had the chance to loose the weight in a short term of time or wash out. at least that's what my friends in the service have told me.
also, as someone who pumps iron to stay in shape- pyle's arms are a little to full and well toned for a couch potato.
In the 60's he would have been sent to the fat farm. they wound make him move a huge pile of sand back and forth. fill two buckets and run 100yds. Repeat that all day long. when he lost enough weight they would have assigned him to a plt to start basic.
What are you trying to say? And after Full Metal Jacket came out, didn't drill sergeants get slapped with a whole lot more regulations after the controversy the first half of the film caused?
i like this song and i love this movie, but i dont think they go well together. maybe with the combat scenes. its just my opinion. at least youre uploading :]
Exact type of response I'd expect from an uninformed viewer. But what do I know - a video about some non-driving punk with open exhaust on a Subaru STi is far more entralling...YAWN! Thanks for backing a moron who has caused ALL of our insurance rates to increase.
This is a real good song :D
