Im thinking of getting one for my studio mixer, but there is no way im taking my computer apart incase i fuck it up haha. im just get a computer specialist to install it for me
You also won't have just "3-4 pci slots" it depends on how big your motherboard is. I have seen motherboards with pci slots ranging from 1 to 7 pci slots, not in voiding pci express x1 or pci express 2.0 x16
Ok, when I installed mine, and after trying to plug my camcorder in, the computer doesn't pick up that there is a camcorder connected. Can you help me out here?
Yeah after everything else unplugged you also need to wear a "D-Strap"! or else you'll chance having to short fuse any compnent that is in static , even since your doing PCI FireWire Card still "highly recommend wear a D-Strap Band"
I am new to PC building. My case has firewire support in the front but I have to break the plastic and there are no cables or anything. How do you install it if your front bezel supports it?
@NickGoesR0aor On laptops there is a card slot that some people use (such as my father) for internet connection. Unplug that if you do the same. Plug in the FireWire port card. obviously not the same kind PrestigeProductionz used. There you go. Hopefully, this makes sense.
@NickGoesR0aor FUCK NO what are ya stupid what you buy with a laptop is what you get you cannot upgrade alot of it afterwards except the ram cpu and gpu.
Well there are two things that i know of that may have happened. 1. I would take the card out and put it back in again, look at the base of where the card goes in and see if u think its in all the way, it took me quite a bit of force to make it click in all the way (just dont brake the card). 2. It may take the computer a bit to recognize that the card is installed and the camera is turned on and plugged in so i would just wait like 5 min. just to make sure. Hopefully this can help.
make sure you hear the card snap and place then check with your eyes to see that it is all the way in...then plug your camera up and turn you camera on and set the cameras mode playback..hopefully this helps
possibly, but probably not... i mean there are some people that think of all the possible ways to get hurt when doing something and want to go all out on safety...but i didnt think it was possible, but if you worried you can wear rubber gloves, and stand on a rubber mat...or touch something metal to discharge you body before opening the computer....it could happen, you never know
hey buddy i watched ur video and it was good. but i have a question that do you need a driver software of these kind of things and what actually plug and play is. thanx
by driver do you mean other software or downloadables? if you do than the answer is no....all i did was by the pci firewire card, plug it in to my computer, and plug my camera into the new slot in the back of my computer for firewire cables so my computer would recognize..
tell me if i havent anwered any of your questions
nope, the only damage that you couldl do is if you accidentaly broke somthing else while trying to put the card in, which is pretty hard to do...i installed it on my own and if you just use some common sense then you will be fine.
The only thing you have to remember is to buy a 4 to 6 pin card...the number of slots it your choice, it doesnt matter
its lets you plug in stuff to your computer...like say your computer didnt come wirh a usb plug in thingy then you would install one of these so you get a plug in thingy..

what if there is not port for a firewire cable to fit. like theres a bunch of usb ports but none that will fit a firewire.

you have to buy the card, open your computer, put the card in, and now you have a firewire port!
