Administrate costs my ass. I pay 23,000 in tuition per year to go to a school smaller than my house. If I had to pay 9000 per year I'd be ecstatic! Private colleges are ripping the living shit off students.

The problem is that government is involved with the loan process. Why? Who is the government to decide what loans are guaranteed to lenders and what loans are not?

If government was not creating cheap money the education bubble could never have been blown up as much as it has. Cheap money is the reason students can graduate en masse with essentially useless degrees and colleges have become four-year vacations. The trillions of dollars in outstanding student loan debt will never be paid back.

You have it right. If the government only paid for student aid for universities that were below a certain price threshold then that influence in the market place would be such that there would be the Phoenix universities of the USA holding down price points.

That's why the cost of medical health insurance is out control. There's no market mechanism to prevent prices escalating thru the roof!

I think US is the only country has no gov, run college.

I went one of those college with all tuition paid by gov. Things we had to pay were books a few other things such as drafting pen, calculator etc.

I even stayed in the dorm which we paid $50.- a month for prepared food.

You have to take a entry exam and score higher than other applicants to get in.

In US, if you have a rich family to pay for it, you can get in any college.

Socialize education. Regulate what every company can charge for ANY KIND OF SERVICE OF GOODS to educational institutions.

The fact is, government grants have consistently been awarded to the LEAST NEEDY STUDENTS. Stop giving government grants to students who are NOT from needy families!!!

Tuition and boarding costs have increased out of step with inflation and other expenses, since 1980.

This increase has absolutely NOTHING to do with the price of oil. That's total BS.

These bums jack these books costs up and split the loot. Three books and you've shot a Thousand Dollars. And the resell value is maybe a Hundred Bucks for these three books. The subsidies doled out to colleges is what's responsible for the spike in costs. Eliminate subsidies in general and the system will even itself out.

One of the real reasons college tuition is high is the existence of tuition subsidies. The lower the "regular" tuition rates, the lower the tuition subsidies, so colleges are thereby encouraged by the existence of tuition subsidies to raise their rates far beyond what it is known to cost to provide top-flight education services.
