Tata was comin for Denice williams and Aretha on this one, I wonder why the BEST singers like Tata, Rachelle Ferrelle, patti Labelle, are not as recognized as they should be for their ability to use their voices to the fullest. low and hi ranged, emotion, authnicity, originality, industry does not appreciate this, they go for the cookie cut-ism. YUCK. originality wins in my book.
Tata Vega was actually recording in 1971 w/the group Pollution(they did 3 albums). Amazing even then...particularly on a blues track from their first LP called Mother Earth(1971)
But despite her success, Tata's experienced enough trauma to warrant a storyline from a soap opera. Raped and impregnated at the age of 15, Tata gave birth, then left home to go to California to be a movie star when she was 16--and ended up homeless. She was abducted, raped and impregnated again, she became promiscuous and had several abortions and miscarriages, she married a man who introduced her to crack cocaine. When they finally divorced, Tata was left with a young daughter,
Do you think you could post the version of "I Just Keep Thinking About You" from this album? I like it better than the version that's currently posted.
From what I've heard, Motown did believe in Tata Vega, but remember you all, Ms. Ross feared any female artists with a big voice. One thing Motown forgot, Tata had a major following and they dumped her, but she stayed with the greatest gift GOD gave her, HER VOICE! Motown it's your lost.
Butrluv,They Actually didn't Dump Me, I Decided Not To Renew My Contract After Being Signed To Them Eleven Years And Not Being Able To Own My Publishing.
@100751 Tata I feel they gave more priority to Teena(God Rest Her Soul) feeling she had more crossover potential!!! You're one of the few singers that can Out Chaka-Chaka!!! Lol!!!
Yos! I always thought TaTa was the Latin version of Chaka! You should hear "I need you now" off of the same album.Did Motown shelve her for the vanilla version of Chaka-Teena?
One of the most amazingly ferocious vocals by the one and only Tata Vega. Love those growls at the end, WOW! Reminds me of Chaka Khan. What Motown did to Tata in the 70s was a mayor crime! "Full Speed Ahead" (1976), "Totally Tata" (1977), "Try My Love"(1978) and "Givin' All My Love" (1980) should be reissued on CD!
Wonderful upload ♥!

Why this wasn't a bigger hit, I don't know. Why doesn't Motown reissue Tata's albums and the 3 by Valerie Simpson from the seventies?
