We are using WP as a blog right now, but we want to change it to a "video capable" web site.

Some designers told us to use Joomla instead of WordPress "to have more options down the road".

What is your idea: WordPress VS Joomla ?

Also, we bought a template that we need to change the info in it.

Hey thank you for this introduction to WP. I'm somewhat currious how I can setup my blog with this tool. If or when I do use WP will my blog still function nomally; can i still blog and post normally, or will I have to html code/Java my pages then update?

Well, it is still a 'blog', but how you set up the information will make it more or less of a blog vs website. You can use 'pages' for the website portion, and then 'categories and posts' to establish the blog.
