'Chester & Lester' is one of the greatest albums of the 20th century, not just in the 'Country' classification but all kinds of music. I loved it from the moment I owned it -- LP, cassette tape, CD. I'm pretty sure it won some sort of Grammy.
To read up on Les Paul and Mary Ford, then go to researching facts about Chet in various internet places, you can't help but somehow wish you could have been a close friend to them both. It wouldn't have hurt either----if some of their talent rubbed off on you!!!
Chet will always remain an all time favorite of mine. He just played sweet and uncluttered. Les Paul is a giant in multi track recording. I have a copy of Jazz at the Philharmonic done in the early 40s with Les Paul on guitar and Nat Cole on piano, many other jazz greats. Les Paul and Nat play a few copy cat riffs on "Tea for Two" that will just blow you away. What a shame that we all have to go through that nemisis of man kind called old age. Thanks for keeping their memories alive.
i just got an unreleased c.d. of lester and chester from an elderly friend of the fam who used to be a singer in st louis. the story is theyre just jamming and "drunk as skunks"
What can you say.. The two most dominant guitar players from the 40's until now. Two different styles but both masters of their own and the standards by which all others are judged.
Thanks! He looks like he's been through a lot.....notice the cane. It is a very heartwarming picture considering that they don't usually make a statue until after one dies....this is a great honor!
Pure genius - Les was quite simply years ahead of his time - we're still trying to catch up. One guy did - and if you've seen my other comments the initials DG will be enoughl.
I've been a fan of Les Paul and Chet Atkins since I was 4 or 5 years old. I enjoy the friendship that they had over the years. They worked well together and the music shows it.
Surely the two finest guitarists who ever lived,no disrepect to Mark Knopfler who must rank along side with these two absolute giants

WHERE WAS THIS PICTURE TAKEN? It seems as though it was taken in Chet's later years.....perhaps after the brain tumor....anyone?
georgereuter 2 years ago
Indeed it was. You are correct. In Nashville, they have a bronze statue of Chet, here he is posing by it.

Yes. Chet did indeed go through a lot. It broke my heart in two to see Mr guitar have to go through all this sickness. I cried a lot.

It was so sad. I know that we have good memories of him and his videos, recordings, and the like will remain with us forever.

Thank God I'm old enough to appreciate two great guitarists, playing the theme from a great movie. Atkins and Paul...what a combination.
