Although the Me-262 had some great features it also had some glaring defects. Engine unreliabilty, the heavy 30mm cannon fired too slow for a fast jet and most of all its vulnerability in take off and landing.

was in dieser doku vom history channel natürlich nicht erwähnt wird, ist dass es ziemlich gängige praxis der us piloten war, die me262 auch noch zu erschießen während sie am fallschirm hängen. nachzulesen zB. im buch von adolf galland

The cannon on the 262 most likely were 30mm Mauser, which were faster-firing and harder-hitting than the Swiss-made Orkiekon. But to be truly effective, you had to get in close to shoot and both types had a nasty tendency to jam at times. Still. I wouldn't want to be a B-17 on the receiving end of burst from a 262 anyhow.

@MyDiabolicoTwin it was actually build as a bomber intercept fighter, thats one of the reasons it had 4 cannons and not machine guns since it takes more firepower to bring down a bomber.

@MyDiabolicoTwin Part of the blame on that can be laid on Goering, when he answered Hitler's question on if the 262 could carry bombs and said yes. Hitler then forbade mentioning the 262 as anything other than a bomber. After all, he WAS the Fuherer and he knew best how to save the Third Reich.

Yeah I also don't believe that hundreds were brought down, If there were even a couple of hundreds of these 262's. And they tell it like the allied forces became dominant over them at the end of the war, while still then the me-262 were the superior planes.
