@joeb50220 Maple Leaves grow all over Canada. Even different areas of Canada has it unique heritage, Maple Leaves unite Canadians. That's why I will equally respect of Australian flag has a Kangaroo on it instead of 6 seven-edge stars.
@matseman46 matilda is actually the swag or bundle the swagman carried with on his search for work farm to farm and waltzed on his back as he tramped along .even if he did not find work nearly every farm would give him a meal and a bunk in the barn for the night .you don,t see the swaggies on the road in oz anymore
@sorrowsingsoftly One of the greatest songs but not that strange. The Foreign Legion march is all about the Belgians not being able to get any sausage and the Welch Rugby crowds roar "Sosban Fach" when they are winning. That's about Mary's hurt finger and the saucepan boiling over!

Wazing Matida is dead. Australia is now a tryanny backed by America. AS for Gallipoli , they where Englishmen , first generation Australians , all that has gone now . its another catholic state now.
@Angarse1966 Let’s look at another country USA, what is an African American, to me that is a half cast person with one parent American Indian and one parent African if both parents are German for example the child will be German born in America. Only native Indians are real Americans.
@Angarse1966 There is a popular belief that if your father comes from a country you also come from that country, for example English grandfather English grandson or is your grandfather as black as the ace of spades then yes you are Australian.
@Angus1966 Fuck you. You fucking pig, how dare you disgrace the memory of the men who gave their tomorrows so we can have a today. Who gives a fuck what generation Australian they were - the first were the proud, and the ones to whom we owe the most respect. More to the point, it shouldnt matter. They were people who had the guts to answer the call, and you should hide your shame for defaming their memory. You're true scum. (PS. Australia is a proud example of secular society at work, dickweed).
@Y2KillerSPOOBLY . I am proud of those who served at gallipoli , those men did a great job and i only wish none had to die. England is also very, very proud of those brave diggers. You will never see the likes of those type for a long time to come , if ever again.
Love this song. When in the Navy we visited Brisbane and an Army band played on the pier the day we left and this was the last one they played. If my Grandfather had imigrated to Australia like his brother did instead of the USA I would be singing it too.
Ummmm, Our anthem (Australia) Is Advance Australia Fair just to let you know...there is really no such thing as an unofficial anthem. Love the Video anyway though!
When I was 12 I first read about the north africa campaign and the aussies in tobruk. I became interested in the diggers and I learned about this song a year later or so. Being a born german, but a brit at heart (and perhaps even in ancestry) I thought that this song meant "Walzender Mathilda" translation in meaning: "Crushing Mathilda Tank" I thought, that it was quite macabre to make a song about the crushing quality of a Commonwealth Infantry tank. Ach the poor english of mine back then...
Should have been the National Anthem, we learned this song at primary school in England, though Advance Australia is ok its no where near as arousing as this.

What an odd song to march by... That is, if you know the lyrics. Good song, but strange that they'd use it for this.
