Just saw this movie at the Gothenburg film festival. Awesome, inspiring and funny! Ofcourse the first thing i said to myself after watching it was that there must be more and maybe even better players out there. But the NES version is special, and i really doubt that all these people you can find on youtube mastering sicker Tetris versions, would be able to beat Jonas or Thor at the NES version. Like posted before, TGM had a representative, not the best maybe, but he didn't even make the semis.
@sy476 the documentary does cover NES. We also have a really cool rep for TGM featured in the movie. But it is like comparing apples and oranges. 2 completely different versions of Tetris. No one is saying one is better than the other. Just different. The movie came to be because of the 1st recorded / verified "max-out" score on the NES.
hmm where's the guys who mastered "tetris the grand master"??? youtube search "TGM" or "invisible tetris"... why no japanese players??? hmm i WAS going to see this but it looks like there are a whole bunch of players that are ignored in this documentary? why??? also google" Tetris the grand master a gameplay essay"...
@DjDedan Tetris is an enormous genre, so it's nigh impossible to get all that coverage in one 90 minute movie. This documentary mostly follows the NES scene, but don't worry -- TGM gets a nod along the way.
@DjDedan TGM has a really cool rep featured in the movie. This movie features the NES version which was inspired by Harry Hong recording and verifying the 1st official "max-out" game on the NES version. We have nothing but love for our TGM people. Maybe this documentary will inspire other filmmakers to feature other Tetris versions ad then we can have a bunch of Tetris related documentaries. :)
I don't give a shit about tournaments with all these modern versions of Tetris.
This has REAL Tetris.
(I prefer the Game Boy version, but the NES one is identical, in terms of game play, so...)

I may have fallen short of semis in 2010, but I don't think I did too badly for myself in the 2011 competition. ;)

@henk102 it's still making its rounds at film festivals. I believe we are hoping for a summer release. :)

@DjDedan Probably, this documentary is only NES.
.....TGM is disliked from The Tetris Company. :(
incidentally.A Japanese top player is "jin8" "777 ""heborisMAI"" kaoliang" etc. most TGM.
