I have a couple of friends who have worked in similar positions as yours, and they all have expressed frustration at trying to break through the culture of audism. You're not the only one!
Am so sorry about your disappointment, it sounds crushing, conflicting and feeling being torn. It seems they didn't value your experience/knowledge which is a shame! I think they're more interested in keeping students there= $! If they transfer students to Deaf schools, they lose $. Nowadays, higher ups only think of $ instead of others' needs...they don't consider you as a valuable asset to their students' future...damn shame! You have the gift to teach. One door closes, another door will open.
hope you share your video to both NAD and one of leader who gave workshop in Minn too! Thanks for sharing your video and bless your soul. I'm share this video to my FB post too! Hope you have good relaxing day! Don't feel alone! OK?
Viewed your latest videocomment in DC. Hm. Did anyone try making contact with you after your walkout, trying to resolve a few issues, or anything like that?
I felt you. I am sure that you are not the one. Bec, I faced it too. I had an emotion and effects my family. It's the best way to let it go and move on. It's not cool. But Thank you for your efforts and stand what you believe! Be strong!...
if stay, expose student to Deaf culture. end up your exposure influence student. which importent your value or student exposure to your Deaf life? belief value separate from job.
Wow. I don't know what to say, but you made the best decision that you felt right. Remember, a pebble thrown in the water does make ripples... so I am sure that your expertise and knowledge have touched many ... it's just we don't see it, but it's out there :)
Perhaps, you can ask NAD for help if possible, The only way , Do not let anybody to put you down, because your Beliefs and values can change people's better lives if they went to right school that you recommend, sorry to hear that you are not happy at your job. Hope that will not happen to others if somebody were in your shoes ???
Kim,
I hope I guessed your name right. Something real good will come your way. One day, it will. :-)
