As a Soldier who is in Iraq right now, I can honestly tell you that it's a pretty sad situation. I'm currently stationed in Kirkuk and an Iraqi air force Colonel that I talked to the other day told me that he's scared of what will happen after U.S. troops pull out because of the instability we've created. He told me things were better under Saddam. Ofcourse that's only one Iraqi's opinion, but it still speaks volumes.

Of course there's also WW2 -- That was the last "good" war America partook in. Since then it's pretty much just meddling with no palpable effect on American security or liberty. Afghanistan, Iraq, how do these wars give Americans any rights or freedoms?

As a Soldier who is in Iraq right now, I can honestly tell you that it's a pretty sad situation. I'm currently stationed in Kirkuk and an Iraqi air force Colonel that I talked to the other day told me that he's scared of what will happen after U.S. troops pull out because of the instability we've created. He told me things were better under Saddam. Ofcourse that's only one Iraqi's opinion, but it still speaks volumes.

If I somehow had a free hand to change things, I would cut the budgets of the army, airforce and marines by three-quarters and the navy by half, then increase the size of the National Guard. Let me be blunt then. There is give and take here in the US and personally, try living the life of a soldier. It's not easy, nor is the pay worth it. I stay because I have more than just money on the fucking brain.
It's about you life and what you're defending. I don't commend the actions of my government, but if my family is safe from the assholes that is, "Terrorists", then that is more than enough to keep defending. So, Anti-Military and Military alike, STFU and MTFO.

Why isn't your military fighting the government then? You have two presidents signing and extending the Patriot Act, respectively, with Obama also sanctioning indefinite detention without charging people with a crime. If I understand it right, American soldiers take an oath to support and uphold the constitution.
An honest American soldier would fight his government if he truly believed in the constitution. But it's not really about the constitution anymore, is it?

Now that I am smart, or at least not dumb, I'll elaborate -- America's military has done fuck all to preserve the freedoms of American citizens since the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Of course there's also WW2 -- That was the last "good" war America partook in. Since then it's pretty much just meddling with no palpable effect on American security or liberty. Afghanistan, Iraq, how do these wars give Americans any rights or freedoms?

Also, reporters and protesters are far, far more important that your soldiers. Being an American, you should know the impact that both of these groups of people have had on your country's history in the course of the last 40 years or so. The Vietnam war was the reporters' domain, civil rights the protesters'. You didn't see the military fighting for freedom of the press or the civil rights of black people, did you?
Also, the founding fathers gave America freedom of religion, not the military.

I get a 186 on my pt test, I pass weapons qual as a marksman, Im never in trouble, Im never late, Im very good at my job. In fact I was recently recommended for the board, I declined and asked for a chapter, my NCOs thought I was joking. I dont have to be motivated or care I just have to meet a standard thats not very high.

You signed the papers, you knew the risks and you also knew that you have to do as told even if you didn't like it. If you're not ready to do what is necessary then don't enlist. Not a single military in the world wants soldiers who can't do as they're told to do. You don't have to like the orders you get - you just need to follow them.
