  • Very nice! Played wonderfully and I love the tone of your guitar. I just started working on this movement as a challenge and expect to take forever to learn it, if ever! Coming from a rock and blues background is of no help with a piece such as this.

  • awesome!!! I like it, can you answer one question please?... in the first part of this video you use three or two fingers (I can`t see) I want to play this part and I would like to be so good like you lady. Congratulations.

  • beautifully

  • as someone said, that smallman is on right hands. Beautiful version. Please check my version of the Scarlatti sonata K213. Thank you!

  • Hi Sam,

I have really enjoyed your playing!!

I wanted to ask you: could you make public the score you used? is it your own transcription?

I am right now learning La Catedral myself and could do with the score you used (I really like some of your variations)!

Thanks again for the nice videos!

    Cheers,

    Alex

ps: btw what did you use to record yourself?

  • that was aweasome!

  • @dIMPULSEj

    Thanks!

    :-sam

  • Amazing ..

  • How much is a classical guitar that will play that well? I've had the same cheap one for years and it keeps me from being able to make songs sound that beautiful.

  • @Leon250 She is playing a handmade guitar by one of the most renowned luthier's in the world, Greg Smallman. They are usually $25,000 US Dollars or more. However, getting an excellent quality handmade luthier guitar doesn't have to cost a new car. There are lots of wonderful handmade guitars from a private workshop for $3,000-$5,000. I recommend checking Guitar Salon International or Classical Guitar International, they carry higher end luthier instruments. Do research on local luthiers also.

  • As always Sam, it is with great pleasure to watch you play. Yourr Smallman is in the right hands, that's for sure. So smooth and gracious. Mission accomplished, When this all over, if I get to heaven, I'm sure you will be seated 1st chair in the classical guitar section. I also suspect you will be entertaining us for a long, long time right here on earth. Thank God. Your wonderful and an angel sent to us. :)...Steve

  • Hi Steve!

Thanks for the great comment! I appreciate the support!

    Best wishes and Season's Greetings,

  • Great work! I'm impressed with your lack of compromise for speed or technique. I'm going to be learning this on an acoustic steel string over the next weeks and you have definitely given me an ambitious goal to strive for. Thank you for sharing your talents.

  • @sammu5

Oh believe me, I know what you mean! I've spent many hundreds of hours practicing this movement. It will pose a challenge for anyone methinks. So massive kudos to you!

  • bravissimaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • Wow you play this perfectly...

I went to a Roland Dyens Masterclass a few weeks ago and a jazz ensemble played this for him, after critiquing the drummer Dyens got up and played the electric bass

    It was awesome!

    Anyways Great playing

  • Really really beautiful interpretation:) May I ask what type of string and tension you were using, and also what the scale length of your guitar is?

  • good interpretation and great smallman

  • OHH MEEEEEE GAAASSSHHHHH!!!!! is that a Greg Smallman!!!???!?!?!?!!?

  • @hazihazil

Thanks for subscribing and commenting on my video. Glad you like it!

    :-sam

  • Nice job. I'm curious about your right hand technique. Are you using the standard pima, or are you using all fingers? With the internet sync problems between the video and audio, I was unable to see whether you were using the "flamenco finger," or if it was just moving along with the a, annular.

  • @arizonamontana

Thanks for commenting! I am using standard pima fingering. I don't use my little finger it just tends to go with the a....

    :-sam

  • you are really good with your instrument, such a difficult piece but almost zero mistakes and you play all the notes so clear. Also I think your pace was very good arranged, some people unnecessarily play this at high speeds which makes it lose the spirit but your version was a joy to listen, thanks

  • @hysterict Thanks for listening!

    :-sam

  • wth, first time i see a women of your age playing on youtube! fantastic!

  • @Respectthewilderness

Hey! I'm not that old.....! LOL! Thanks for watching!

very close to john williams version.

  • @hazihazil

    :-D Thanks!

  • she enjoyed it ;] efficient technique, makes it look almost easy on the left hand...

    thanks!

  • @joewav

    Thanks!

    :-sam

  • I tried this but holding bm so long is a hand killer for me.

Yours is brilliant; perfect and sensitive. Bravo!

  • Hi Amy! This piece is hard work but worth it! Thanks for listening!

    :-sam

  • Wow! Samantha, somehow I had missed this.

It is a wonderful interpretation!!!! Very impressive too. Thank you so much. - Athan

  • Hi Athan! I am glad you like this!

    Thanks and best wishes,

    sam :-D

  • You have made a beauty out of the beast.....

  • is it a greg smallman guitar ? it sounds very nice

  • thanx for the reply sam, lol by now ive learned most of this piece. i wish i had a web cam so i could show you my interpretaion of xodo de baiana (based on your rendition- ) seeing how you did a little ,almost, flamenco style finger swipe on the second part of the 3rd riff, i based the complete song on that sort of style. have you ever found a tab for "song from a secret garden"?? ive been dying to learn it.. but i wont spend my time learning to read music .. i simply refuse :

    )

  • Love you facial expression and smile my lady~

So what is your daily practice for those great pieces? Doing scale practice a lot or something?

  • Samantha, that was wonderfully played and your technique is really something special.

  • Hello sammu5, I'd like to say that your playing is one of the best I've heard of this piece on the net. I see you're playing a Smallman; would you mind telling me about it? Where you got it, etc, and if you don't mind, about how much it cost? I'm asking because I love those guitars and I'm hoping to own one someday. Thanks!

  • i need the tab for this, i found one tab but after the first couple of riffs, its completely wrong. any chance you guys know where the correct tab can be found??

  • Comment removed

  • Very Nice! And I'm a critic!

  • Very nice. The tempo is quick without sounding rushed. Some of the fingerings are interesting. Very graceful recovery..hehe. More human than even Barrios who sounds like he might train wreck at any moment!

  • Awesome playing! One of the best on YouTube.

BTW, is this really 393rd take? I normally give up with less than 10 takes. You have about 40 times as much patience as I have lol.

  • Hi Sam i love this piece as well , still practicing the third movement as much as i can , and as with all your vids you made it look so easy . Brilliant Sam .

  • Hi Sam. Loved your comment about "take 393" :-). I can relate, as I'm in the process of trying to record some (simple !) mistake-free pieces to post ...eventually !!

Absolutely stunning performance. I first heard it played by Steve Hackett, and to see it rendered just as expertly here is a real treat. Best Regards, Jim.

  • Hi Jim! Thanks for your kind comment! Best wishes, sam :-)

  • OOO GREAT!

  • Fantastic I really love this interpretation your playing is

    beautiful end Smooth

  • Oh my god, you really played this very well! Wouldnt even have noticed the slight error somewhere at 1/3 if I didnt practice this song myself, but I can't play it this fast! GOOD JOB !

  • Fantastic!!!! this is one of my favorite pieces too. I have heard others play this, but this by far the best i heard. Keep it going!!!!

  • Hi Sam,

This is such a lovely piece that you play with so much grace.

    Thank you for posting!

    Kind Regards,

    Vernon

  • Hi Samantha, I was floored by your playing, I've always loved playing this piece, better to watch someone play it, than perform it..lol Great job! Scott

  • Hi Scott! Thanks for listening! I really love this piece too but it's a struggle for me to play!!!! :-D sam (ps. I am quite pleased with myself at the end, lol....)

  • By the way, an excellent interpretation, and a beautiful tone.

  • Truly Magnificent! I just started playing classical guitar last week, one day I hope I can play as well as you.

  • Thanks for the comment deadnburied6103! Keep practising and you'll get there! Good luck and best wishes, sam :-)

  • how do you get this so clean im learning this i cant get it clean like this !! =)

  • Hi Kyle! I practise just the right hand fingering, on the open strings, and I find this really helps to get the flow and make the right hand fingering smoother, (even though it sounds strange when practising). Let me know if this makes sense to you! Also. keep practising slowly and evenly. Good Luck! :-) sam

  • I also train my right hand fingers on open strings, and yes, it's very good for developing technique!

  • Very nice. I can't find a flaw. Your little finger makes the treble sing. Thanks.

  • wow! Really impressed, that was awesome. The tone's really clear and warm too, congrats.

  • Thanks for listening! Best, sam :-D

  • Wow! Great playing Ma'am.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you sir! Best wishes, sam :-D

  • this video is way underviewed =o for such an awesome performance. cheers

  • Thanks for such a great comment! Best, sam :-D

  • congratulations :]

  • Thanks, :-)

  • I looked into it. Problably not the same thing but very close! It was listed on the sountrack as (Bach - Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major BWV1007 - Mov. 1-3/6) that I heard in the movie. Souds very similar to me, but I don't have a trained ear either.

  • Thanks for your comments Robert. I like that film too! I think you're reminded of Bach because Barrios was inspired by Bach.... Thanks again and best wishes, sam :-)

  • It's great to see women with such great talent. You performed that perfectly. I wonder, was this piece featured in the movie, Master and Commander: Far Side of The World? In the movie Russell Crowe is a British navel captain during the French/English wars. It sounds like the piece I heard in that. I am in awe of your performance. Great job! -Robert

  • Perfect from A to Z ! One of my favorites by Barrios .I wish I could play it as flowingly as you do . Congratulations .Thanks for accepting invite + sub .

    Have a good week !

  • Pleasure! Thanks for watching. Best wishes, sam :-)

  • Really well played Sam! This is a tough one and you've made it look pretty effortless here.

    Bravo to you :-)

    Best wishes

    Denian

  • Thanks Denian! Under the cool demeanour I was sweating buckets! (Probably shouldn't admit that...) Enjoy your weekend! Best, sam :-)

  • Wow !

    Perfect playing !!!

    10 stars at least !

    best regards,

    wolfgang

BTW: now I have to practise..........

  • Thank you Wolfgang for your very kind comment! I think I need to keep practising! Best, sam :-)

  • Phew. Well done ! Worth all the hard effort

  • I'm sure I answered this already but it seems to have disappeared! Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting! Enjoy your weekend. Best, sam :-)

  • Very very very good!!!

    Cheers and hugs.

    Kelvin Borrero

  • Thank you very very very much Kelvin! :-) Best, sam

  • Hi Sabine! Well, appearances certainly can be deceptive! I found this really very hard!!! My fingers nearly fell off! But I love this piece so much (no, I hate it! Such a beast to play!) Ok, I love it! Going to keep working on it. :-) Thanks, and best wishes, sam

  • Wow, respect!

You play this difficult part so clear and hold the tempo and you look so relaxed. How do you do that? 5 stars are not enough for this performance!

    But I can´t give more :-(

    Sabine

  • Excellent execution, very controlled and musical. THanks for making and sharing.

  • Hi Wolllfang! Thanks so much! Best, sam
