disney had class back then. and it all ended a few years after lion king was made. now all people can think about when they think about disney is johnas brothers, miley cyrus and a few others.I'm not saying those guys suck (though I'm not saying I like them either) but disney was never intended to be what it is today. if walt disney ever comes back to life like he thought he could when it becomes possible (unlikely) I'm sure he would be angry with what his legacy has become
Yet another one I have just found of Disney, there seems to be a lot specials I have´t seen yet. One scene I regonize i swith the old man by the river when he throws down that fish flot, seems to be the same as from Song of the South at the end of the song "How do you do"! I love this type of animation and design. Great video!
I am looking to get a better copy of this Irving Washington documentary. Does anyone know where it can be had? I've downloaded a torrent copy, but its the same as this one, and the quality is quite poor. Does anyone have this on VHS perhaps?
Yeah, it looks like they recycled a lot of animation for this, including definitely bits from Ben and Me. I think the fire scene was also from Ben and Me. Very cool program though. I remember this airing on the Disney Channel on Halloween night. I so wish this was available on DVD. Thanks for posting it here!
@slave2moonlight Nothing was recycled from "Ben And Me". There's only a brief appearance from Benjamin Franklin at 1:32 as he appeared in that short. "Ben And Me" has a completely different animation style than this.
@DTVzone Yeah, I was wrong about the fire, I double checked, but "recycled" doesn't just mean using shots/clips. Disney used to recycle animation a lot in the sense of redrawing scenes simply by using old pencil work. The Ben Franklin bit was definitely direct from Ben and Me.
@slave2moonlight I know that animation recycling is, and there honestly isn't anything here that pops out at me other than the brief shot of Ben Franklin. The animation here is EXTREMELY minimalistic (Lower television budget) compared to the character animation in "Ben And Me".
@DTVzone I know what you're getting at about the animation (though even with limited animation the drawings can be referenced), and I was probably mistaken because there are scenes here and there similar to scenes in other stuff. Like, Ben and Me has a fire too, but as I said, I looked back at it and none of the scenes are the same. The owl bit also looked really familiar, and a few scenes of the boy, but they are probably just similar to other stuff. That Ben Franklin bit was recycled though.
Maaaan...I loved these specials as a kid (with Walt introducing the cartoons, and the ones where he explained how the cartoons were made)...he was one of my greatest childhood heroes, even though I was born long after his death.
i have always wonder if the legend of sleepy hollow was true or not i may find anwsers one day and so this is my first time seing like a movie like this before must been a very popular movie then
Thank you so much for uploading the "Washington Irving" extended version of this. Every Halloween I watch this version on a bad VHS copy I taped off the Disney Channel back before Eisner killed everything great about it.
I agree about Eisner, was just thinking the same thing, wonder if any of walts family like children have any input in disney at all,my kids love to watch these, they made sense unlike some of the garbage they have on disney now.
@schizoidboy I'm watching this again and it's still great animation, recycled or not they still don't do this sort of animation anymore. I also love the bit about New York and the Hudson and the bit about the Battle of Stony Point because I live around there.
Say, since you uploaded "A Disney Channel Christmas", do you have a Disneyland TV episode called, "From All of Us, To All of You"? A Disney Channel Christmas used that excerpt from the episode.

@moviencartoons2 Actually yeah, prettymuch. Its trippy thinking of it being a city that size, with shorter buildings.

The man at the printer who appears starting at 1:31 appears to be Ben Franklin from "Ben and Me."

Don't have that one, and I don't recall the Disney Channel ever airing it.
I think nearly all of that episode is contained in "A Disney Channel Christmas", with new stuff added in between the segments.
