hey im a new reader for comics and i want to start the with the clone sage so its with the amazing spiderman 149 to 151 right and what were the other ones please
I'm bit confused after watching many of the Spider-Man 101 classes. Is the Spider-Man comic there in the Canada called The Amazing Spider-Man? Here in Finland it was called just "Spider-Man".

@ctcomics12358 As a young kid I had no clue about science. So I was little confused about the plot. I didn't have all the issues, my parents stopped the subscription after 5 months of the beginning of saga, as their only excuse:"it's too expensive comic book".
I was angry because I was interested in the clone saga. Scarlet Spider was really cool to see, I really liked the design of the suit he used. But thanks to Youtube I've seen the Scarlet Spider in action in the animated series.
I'm personally a big fan of Ben Reilly. I think he was a pretty interesting character. The immediate stuff that came out right after he became Spiderman was pretty good. They put Ben in a more modern (well, 90's modern) setting. Ben lived in the city and worked as a waiter, which was a breath of fresh air after Peter being a student/photographer/scientist all these years. I also enjoyed seeing Ben meet all the other characters that Peter establish connections through the years.
A more elegant story would've been that, after Ben returns to see Aunt May, Ben and Peter would be put into a situation where they'd need to team up, Ben consequently proves he's capable of taking on the mantle and Peter gives it to him to care of the baby. Peter, then, mentors Ben and, maybe, occasionally, helps him out as a Spiderman.
TAS Spider-Carnage was amazing and I found him really scary as a kid. Also one of the earliest material to introduce me to the concept of alternate universes (and now I'm a science undergrad).
Anyway, the only real mistake with the attempt at getting a new, unmarried Spiderman with the Clone Saga was Peter being the clone. I don't know why they had to make Peter being a clone the reason they had to put Ben in. He already has a perfectly good reason to retire with the baby.
Remember the scene where Peter Parker and Ben Reilly found a decomposed Spider-Man corpse in the sewer？？ That corpse should have been the REAL Spider-Man and both of them should have been clones. Marvel should have just rolled with it.
I have all the issues and crossovers for clone saga. Recently I bought all the complete clone saga TPBs that came out, there were 5 of them. They are pricey though, $35 to $40 each. Luckily I got them for 30% off cover price. Check out my channel "chunky effect" to see my review of those TPBs.
Why the fuck does everyone say that "Ben was like a twin of Peter and knew what it was like to be him" man that's so obvious! He is a CLONE! The clone has all the memories of Peter Parker until the point of its creation!! So hell yes he know's what it's like to be him. Because the clone basically IS Peter Parker, just not the "original" one. He has EXACTLY the same personality and EXACTLY the same memories (up to a certain point)
I never hated the Clone Saga, but found it frustrating. I fucking LOVE it in the wake of OMD. it had some nice ideas and some of em were well execiuted. brinign Osborn back did do damage to his death scenes BUT Marvel fixed many of the continuity problems surrounding that AND have since then utilised Osborn very well so his ressurrection was cheap
You always said that it annoyed people that Ben Reilly was then the "New" Spider-Man ... I mean they actually made it more look like Ben Reilly was the real peter Parker and so he also was actually the "real" Spider-Man, the one who was bitten by the Spider and stuff. It really shocked me when I read it the first time so I think it was good.
@Matriculon on a shock level it was good. from a fans perspecive it was bad bcos u felt cheated for all thsoe years u read Spider-Man bcos he wasnt the REAL Spidey. in hindsight tho when u read it knowing that in the end Ben isn't the original i enjoy it much more bcos, u know that at the end of the day no real damage was done, Ben was Spidey for a while and then he wasn't end of story.

I just look at it as a crazy time for Spider-Man and its not like I didn't like Ben or his Spidey costume/adventures. from a writers POV it sorta solves the 'marriage' thing they all ridiculously have a problem with. its weird tho ALL major superheroes had BIG x-overs in the 90s where they were replaced by 'hipper' versions. Superman died and got Last Son of Krypton. Bats back was broken + we got Jean Paul Valley. Spidey's a clone=Ben Reilly
@227060 yeah, I remember the issue with Batman getting his back broken by Bane (if this is what you were talking about), but I apparently missed everything about his recovery cause I normally don't read Batman. He suddenly just came back. No idea.

When I started reading the comic books as a kid I was reading when the clone sagas started again in 94 which I feel I started reading Marvel at the best time, and the clone sagas were kick ass I started reading a few venom sagas, and wolvering but the clone saga was the best, and I have been looking for away to get those comics does anyone know how I can get all the spider-man clone saga comics, seeing alot of those covers he showed brings back alot of memories when I was a kid reading them.

Good video, I guess you love the saga for Nostalgia, being your first subscription comics and all. But if this saga was so great, it would have lasted, it was a failure both artistically and comercially. And i you were pissed of by One More Day., well this saga does the same it throws to the garbage more than 20 years of continuity. Ironically th originaL Clone Saga by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru was pretty cool, 10 or so issues , good artwork, and good plot twists.
@CaptainTrollface I didn t like it i thoguht it was dreadful, Spiderman is not a ground -breaking hero since the mid 70, they play it safe with him. And the Clone thing, wasn t at all that original. If you still find it a masterpiece or a great story good for you. Be well.
A trilogy of darker Spidey films featuring genetically enhanced villains like the Lizard, Morbius and Carrion and using elements from the clone storylines to make them cohesive would be the coolest way to do the movie franchise reboot, IMHO. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these ideas as well as on the supposed return of Ben Reilly that's in development.

kaine dissapered afterwards and they never found or talked about the baby...exept from spider girl. I liked the clone saga up until norman ressurected
the only character who should be allowed to ressurect that many times is Jean Grey, she's the phoenix, and rises from the ashes. that and she can control life and death, normans ressurection was really cheap
The great thing about the clone saga was Kaine, and the whole Peter Parker on trial with Carnage as the Judge and Kaine as Peter's Lawyer. P.S. Kaine is pure awesomeness
My first comic book was amazing spiderman #388 the last story to the peters parents saga I know people don't like this book but I do because it shows another side of peter parker.
According to Howard Mackie on the podcasts, if the NEW Clone Saga (six-parts) is a success, it'll take the place of the original in continuity and have an alternate ending that restores Ben Reily to life. BND will be retconned if this is a success too (or "amended" to reveal Peter and MJ have been happily married and it's Ben that's been havinmg all this weird shit the last 10 years)

I actually loved the clone saga,simply because Parker got booted out for a while. I've always hated the Spiderman comics because of Peters angst and complaining about Aunt May or other everyday things. Reilly was a breath of fresh air and Kaine was a damn badass to the bone.

The Clone Saga was way too long and they ret-conned Peter being a clone and made it Ben Rielly so your argument doesn't stick. PETER WASN'T A CLONE. There's no way in hell Marvel would let Spider-Man be a clone of the original, Fans would not except it as fact. That's why they Ret-conned it and that's why the Clone Saga is universally hated by almost everyone.

I thought that YouTube had imposed a limit on videos being a maximum of 10mins long, but I have seen a few recent vids (this one included) that are longer than that. This 101 is done by DC's clone. You can see him laughing at the end and you could even hear him saying ".. and they dont even suspect a thing." I remember one video where we saw an identical looking person, I suspect to be "Kevan, Clone Saga".
Don't forget! Mary Jane's miscarriage was also a fake! Osborne paid off the doctors to lie to the Parkers about the baby dying and they took her away. To this day, no one knows what happened to the baby.
Great vid kev. But the clone saga sucks. I agree that they should have kept peter parker as the original otherwise all the comics you read previously (thousands) would be null & void! That would suck! They shouldve kept ben rielly alive though cause the world would be better with 2 spider men. Also you didnt explain what happened to all the other clones. I actually remember that I liked the Clone Saga because I really like Scarlet Spider. I think I even have that Spider-Man: The Lost Years first issue somewhere. I always wished he'd lived and went to the west Coast or something, lol. Joined up with the West Coast Avengers.
Between this and Separation Anxiety, you must've been croaking for good comics around '94.
I have to admit though, the look of the Scarlet Spider is pretty neat. Both of them.
Never read it though. My very first comic book that I actually went out and bought on my own was Venom: Lethal Protector #6 which also had different variations of Venom...in #5 and 4, which I bought later.
Hey Kev, any chance of having you touch on Khaine?(sp?). I thought he was probably the most interesting character of the whole Clone saga, and it's not like he was a minor character in the series (Hell, he's responcible for the death of Doc Oc at one time, sets up Peter(Ben) for murder (Trial of Peter Parker), and was there during the years of Ben before coming back into Peter's life.
And I think they should have kept Ben as Spiderman and not go back on the decision. Personal taste I guess.

I absolutely enjoyed the Clone saga as well, though I have yet to read all the issues! I really like Ben Reilly's character and the Scarlet Spider as well! Totally dig his first and second versions of the spider-man costume.

IMO guys theclone saga was a good and interesting story that got out of hands.
Instead of playing around with the idea a little, they wanted to implement the change permanently. Anyway this almost kills spidey in the 90s.

the only character who should be allowed to ressurect that many times is Jean Grey, she's the phoenix, and rises from the ashes. that and she can control life and death, normans ressurection was really cheap

I loved the clone saga except for when Norman came back. It really cheapened his death. Sometimes characters need to stay dead.
I started reading Spidey around the time of the beginning of the clone saga as well, but after SM75 I stopped buying Spider-Man forever.
I'm glad I did because from all accounts, it's pure garbage at this point.

The great thing about the clone saga was Kaine, and the whole Peter Parker on trial with Carnage as the Judge and Kaine as Peter's Lawyer. P.S. Kaine is pure awesomeness

According to Howard Mackie on the podcasts, if the NEW Clone Saga (six-parts) is a success, it'll take the place of the original in continuity and have an alternate ending that restores Ben Reily to life. BND will be retconned if this is a success too (or "amended" to reveal Peter and MJ have been happily married and it's Ben that's been havinmg all this weird shit the last 10 years)

I actually loved the clone saga,simply because Parker got booted out for a while. I've always hated the Spiderman comics because of Peters angst and complaining about Aunt May or other everyday things. Reilly was a breath of fresh air and Kaine was a damn badass to the bone.

The Clone Saga was way too long and they ret-conned Peter being a clone and made it Ben Rielly so your argument doesn't stick. PETER WASN'T A CLONE. There's no way in hell Marvel would let Spider-Man be a clone of the original, Fans would not except it as fact. That's why they Ret-conned it and that's why the Clone Saga is universally hated by almost everyone.

Another great video, Kev - I always enjoy your postings. I thought that YouTube had imposed a limit on videos being a maximum of 10mins long, but I have seen a few recent vids (this one included) that are longer than that. I haven't posted any videos myself yet, but I was wondering if YouTube lets people post vids longer than 10mins if they've been a member a certain length of time, or if they've got a certain number of subscribers, or something like that. Does anyone know if this is the case?

@DCompose It's funny how venom thinks that the Scarlet Spider is the real Spiderman even though he doesnt look like spiderman at all he says something like You promised not to get in my way or somethingand scarlet spider didnt know how powerful Venom is but later it seems like venom starts to think that spiderman isnt spiderman that it is someone else that looks like spiderman sorry for telling you something you already know lol

This 101 is done by DC's clone. You can see him laughing at the end and you could even hear him saying ".. and they dont even suspect a thing." I remember one video where we saw an identical looking person, I suspect to be "Kevan, Clone Saga".

Great vid kev. But the clone saga sucks. I agree that they should have kept peter parker as the original otherwise all the comics you read previously (thousands) would be null & void! That would suck! They shouldve kept ben rielly alive though cause the world would be better with 2 spider men. Also you didnt explain what happened to all the other clones. Did they just off themselves or there clone warranty dates where up?

I actually remember that I liked the Clone Saga because I really like Scarlet Spider. I think I even have that Spider-Man: The Lost Years first issue somewhere. I always wished he'd lived and went to the west Coast or something, lol. Joined up with the West Coast Avengers.
Between this and Separation Anxiety, you must've been croaking for good comics around '94.

I have to admit though, the look of the Scarlet Spider is pretty neat. Both of them.
Never read it though. My very first comic book that I actually went out and bought on my own was Venom: Lethal Protector #6 which also had different variations of Venom...in #5 and 4, which I bought later.
Seems the idea of clones was big in the 90's.

Hey Kev, any chance of having you touch on Khaine?(sp?). I thought he was probably the most interesting character of the whole Clone saga, and it's not like he was a minor character in the series (Hell, he's responcible for the death of Doc Oc at one time, sets up Peter(Ben) for murder (Trial of Peter Parker), and was there during the years of Ben before coming back into Peter's life.
And I think they should have kept Ben as Spiderman and not go back on the decision. Personal taste I guess.

I absolutely enjoyed the Clone saga as well, though I have yet to read all the issues! I really like Ben Reilly's character and the Scarlet Spider as well! Totally dig his first and second versions of the spider-man costume.
