I want to build a pinball machine at home, too. I am actually struggling where to get the necessary components (i.e. microcontroller unit; scoring unit; etc.) incl. documentation, as in the web I only could find shops with spare parts for different kinds of commercial pinball machines. Can anybody help me and give advise?
The 17F627 has an internal clocking option that you can set with the programmer. That's one of the reasons these chips are so good to use. I remember the days of 74 series TTL. You would need ten chips to do what this one does!
Cool video! :)

Are you an engineer of the programs?
Or do you program it by self-education?

Wow. How do you clock the microcontroller without a crystal?
