I just watched your video about nutrition and in it you talked a lot about carbohydrates. I am a diabetic who is trying to build/create my own team. I've thought a lot about this stuff. While watching this video I was thinking what am I to do about the carbohydrate intake? With my diabetes I HAVE to watch how many carbohydrates I eat. A lot of the stuff in your video is full of carbs. I know the cereal alone is loaded. What can diabetics do for this kind of stuff?
@Neuville21 It is a precursor degree to med school, which he is in now. Middle school gym teachers don't have to have a degree related to sports nutrition or science. They just have to have a teaching degree.
Great video. I was always told in hockey training after a hard workout to have whey protien, but not during the workout. Was I informed wrong, or is it due to the fact that you have alot of breaks during paintball, and not so much the intense dryland training for hockey?
You should be doing it regardless, but the reason why no one has really been told to do this is because it is so new in terms of sports nutrition. Im not sure if you remember when "accelerade" came out but that was the start of the concept. It was made for endurance athletes and proved to show significant results(were able to run a lot longer) when a amino acid compound(protein) was mixed with a sugar compound(carb). Now the formula has been tuned and twaeked to fit all kinds of athletes needs.
The way I do it with the whey is because its cheap, its easy, and it is more convenient for the paintball/weight lifter/ football player because yes we do have many breaks in between our short bursts of intense games/sets. Hockey dryland is a bit different since you are going pretty much non stop with minimal breaks.... Thats when something like the accelerade would be more convenient since it is more accessable for that training yet carries the same/similar benefits. Hope this all makes sense
Uh one thing I would do though is swap the gatorade with the water just because Gatorade has sugar in it and that will make you tired in about a hour.
This isnt entirely true your body needs the sugar as a fast source of carbohydrate. The main sugar used in gatorade is sucrose, not high fructose corn syrup associated with "bad sugar" That is why gatorade is used by all professional athletes during games of high intensity... not just water.
Gatorade will also help hydrate you because you are going to be sweating a lot in hot humid weather. Another misconception about sugar is the fact that it makes you crash... it actually doesnt. When you take in sugar during a high intensity exercise your body will utilize all of it. If you take it in during rest... your body will not use the sugar convert it to fat and store it for a later time. .
Personally I would rather have the crash instead of getting fat lol. But you will be good with sugar during exercise it will not affect your performance in a negative way.
The nutrition drink is good.
