  • ...if I had to choose a Nas song.

  • Ahhh I gotta go to Ameoba and get this....Nas Escobar

  • Exocutioner, Winter time I rock a fur, mega popular.. Damn Nas is so nice, my favourite MC no doubt. This my favourite track too.

  • Illmatic is better than rasonable doubt and ready to die..nine pure hard tracks, no chorus shit, just next level intelligent rhymes, it was written is immense in its own right..Nas as and artist if you know his entire carrer and understand his tunes as his career progessed you know he's not fucked with, his unreleased catalogue is off the hook too

  • everything was perfect but he never said 'sudan' at the end haa

  • I rather take it in blood.....

  • dis sum of da realest shit i neva liked nas kuz illmatic was ovarated n awful 2 me i guess im 2 nto gangsta rap #NegativeNigga but it was written go hard

  • @uglyasgangsta ur retarded.

  • @BlazyyQC naw im jus ignorant and negative nigga styles voice but cmon illmatic is not betta den reasonable doubt or ready to die or it was written or slime flu lol n im 22 most niggas my age neva heard dis

  • i hope you dont read my comments and interpret as im attacking you or coming off as hostel and confrontational, i usually read over my comments when i post them and i just now noticed that they can be taken in that way, which is why i wanted to post another comment clarifying just that, i dont mean to sound rude & disrespectful, i just get serious when talkin bout this sometimes & usually when i have these talks, they go from conversation to debate to argument, so i just wanted to clear that up

  • nothin like a classic!!

  • Nas Killed this Track!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its just bothers me how niggas say he wasn't spittin on this album. He lyrcially got better, his flow just change alittle.

  • Greatest of All Time... and it's not even close.

  • some people know nothing about hip hop. how could soulja boys records get 1M likes and more and this song aint enough have 0.5M

  • All You Can Say Is Wow. Lyrical Beast

  • Def one of my fav Nas joints

  • im sick of people comparing every subsequent nas album to illmatic, as far as im concerned this album is better than illmatic: it has more songs instead of less than 10 new songs, it has a more colorful soundscape to back the lyrics, the wordplay, rhyme schemes, and lyrics are more advanced and improved, and just overall better songs, illmatic was great but it absolutely had flaws and was far from perfect or greatest, this album and lost tapes were easily better than illmatic

  • @hiphopdisciple555 One thing I notice about your opinion is that you fail to address the flaws Illmatic had. Don't get me wrong, It Was Written is ILL and Nasty Nas is definitely spittin' that real shit start to finish. But you gotta be kidding me when you say "was easily better than Illmatic". Play all Illmatic right now, load up the lyrics to each song n try to flow along with Nas. You'll soon realize why this album was so groundbreaking in a time where rhyme schemes and vocab were dead simple

  • @fuckyou1337 there are many points that need to be addressed so ill just get down to it, first - i didnt fail to mention illmatics flaws, i did exactly the opposite, go back and read my comment and i very clearly get into it with much detail and reason, im glad to hear you liked it was written too, i hope your one of the fans that always liked it as opposed to the type of fan i described in my first comments

  • @hiphopdisciple555 , second - i was not kidding when i said its easily better than illmatic, i was very much dead serious and sincere about that and made it very clear why i felt that way, what you didn't know about me is that i've listened to illmatic and read/followed the lyrics millions and millions of times for many years, i've done that with every nas album and many albums of countless other emcees, i listen and study both as a fan and student of the craft, and the truth of the matter is

  • @hiphopdisciple555 that the lyricism, specifically the rhyme schemes/wordplay, were not unbelievable and out of this world, the entire album consisted of rhyme schemes that spanned no more than 2 lines in length, in lots of cases it only spanned 1 line, which by lyricist standards is absolute disastrous and disgraceful, guys like rakim and kool g were doing crazier shit with their wordplay before nas, and countless emcees were doing even crazier wordplay after nas

  • @hiphopdisciple555 if you want to break down every song on illmatic and dissect them by each song, im fine with that, but one thing is absolutely for sure in which i want to make crystal clear again....i was absolutely not kidding when making any comments i made, i dont joke around with this shit, i take it too seriously for that

  • the lyrical craftsmanship is just impeccable, all the elements you need to have great lyrics is represented in this album: multis, wordplay, metaphors, large vocabulary, vivid and descriptive imagery/storytelling, great songwriting/structure, and great beats that perfectly compliments both the lyrics and tone of the album, the album has cohesiveness and consistency, and nas is able to accomplish all this with almost no guest features, just a couple songs have guest verses, he truly holds his own

  • to all those critics and fans who condemned it then now changing their position so they can fit in with the mass majority, you didn't like the album because it had mafioso and name brand references in the lyrics...how fucking dare you, how the fuck do you look yourself in the mirror after disrespecting an album that contained such gems as the message, take it in blood, I GAVE YOU POWER, a song that rivals i used to love her as the best metaphorical and conceptual song of all time, you r horrible

  • unlike most so called nas or hip hop fans, i was a huge big fan of this album and loved it from the FIRST time i heard it all the way to now, it just disgusts me how insincere and flip flop people are, do half of you even remember that when this album first came out it was crucified and hated on so viciously from both critics and fans, giving it reviews with some of the most disrespectful shit this album did not deserve, now everybody decided to change their mind on it, such fuckin bullshit

  • Ultimate nas song to zone out to

  • This is my favorite song by Nas!! One of the greatest emcees of all time..........DEFINITELY AGREE WITH BANGSTRUIN, I COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER!!

  • Who Invented REPLAY? much love

  • 1. NAS or BIG L whichever one these number 1 the other #2

    3. BIGGIE

    4. PAC

    5. And this choice is just my opinion, so im not doubtin yall choices but mine is a big time underrated MC, "AZ the GOD"

  • @PGMizz i feel yo jo but nas, big l,biggie, pac they all legends its hard to decide and you cant forget my nigga twista

  • My favorite Nas track. Most his shit off the chain but there's just somethin real special about this one, the right sample rocked the right way on the right beat w/ the right flow

  • I never brag how real I keep it cause it's the best secret

  • This beat is so funky

  • ..45 by my scrotum!

  • This is from back in the day!! Eminem ain't got shit on this!!!

  • @buzztubebuzztube I don't know why you bother to mention Eminems name on this. Em and Nas are both great, but they're in their own different leagues, they have different styles.

Yeah, this is from back in the day, but Eminem also had an album titled "Infinite" come out the same year as "It Was Written".

  • Nas has the illest FLOWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  • I love that sample durin the chorus

    otherworldly.

  • " I told the judge snakes slither

like Sharon Stone, but like Capone I'm thrown" Illest shit, just finished watching Casino.

  • Man, Why Does This Have Only Have 77k Views??.... Makes Me Want To Cry. People Dont Know What They Are Missing Out On...

  • @QsnakeUsmc i prefer being underground, i like calling people pathetic for liking todays music.

  • @ethanevans95 ou do realise that this isnt underground right? i mean cmon columbia.

  • Wisemen build and destroy while the real mckoy dope fiend named detroit is still dealing boyd!!! Fucking Sick!!! This will always be true Hip Hop not hip pop!!! Fuck Gay Z!!!

  • 1 dislike must of came from a HATER...BYE HATERR!!

  • This era was the pinnacle of lyricism and genius. It's been downhill ever since. Damn. I didn't realize how good we had it then. Albums that we didn't pay much attention to because there was so much quality out would be pure fire nowadays.

  • big l shits on all

  • @VlCK7 L is ill, but shit's on all? I don't know duke! Nasir in 93-97 is verging on out of this world, like literally

  • CHECK OUT MY FIRE FREESTYLE ON THE CHANNEL

  • how does this song only have 57,000 views....whats up with that shit

it pisses me off how some people dont recognize true talent

  • Why is youtube deleting so many Nas videos?

    especially his most real ones......

youtube you get gayer every fucking day

  • @ThumbsUpMike its cause of copyright

  • This song is a journey into Nas's mind. His wordplay, delivery, the complexity of his lyrics, soooo ill!... a True Lyricist, the GOAT.

Nas > Rakim (and anyone else in the "Greatest MC of all time" list)

  • Stretch from the Live Squad produced this track, the same guy who used to be tight with Pac.

  • does anyone know who produced this track?

  • @ineligible76 live squad, lo ground and top general sounds

  • @molson same live squad that produced for 2Pac?

  • @peterscoop i think so, but im not sure. its just what wiki says

  • @molson i have it on vinyl and it also says live squad so i guess its the same guy

  • @peterscoop Yes.

  • @ineligible76 Stretch from the Live Squad.

  • yo the time is wastin, i use the mind elevation, dime sack lacin, court pin pacin, individual, lyrical math abrasion, psychic evaluation, the foulest nation

  • Another hyped Nas sound. I love it when Nas tracks are hyped beats. Nigga, I like to move. I got soul. You didn't know. This "Memory Lane", and "Nas Is Like", and "It ain't hard to tell" I love hype sounding beats. I got soul like James Brown and Rakim, ya'll better act like ya'll know. That's why this rap of today has got to go. Brothers be acting like they don't know how to move and be hyped.

  • to be completely straight from a dude who knows hip hop up and down...this is the third best album ever behind illmatic then reasonable doubt. straight up

  • LYRICAL SLAUGHTER

  • I made It like that

    I bought it like that

    Im livin like that

  • songs like this remind me why mainstream "rappers" today are such a fucking joke

  • "Time is money when it comes to mine, take it in blood!" - Nasty Nas

That line is nothing but regulation!

  • Many may differ but for the lyrics and beat and shockingly memorable (i still think of it from time to time) sample/hook from EASE BACK the is THE BEST NAS SONG.

ONE LYRIC ISSUE: where he says yellow envelopes of LA - should be - not LYE - La like the nickname for marijuana at the time esp in NYC. LYE is like the chemical.

  • Many may differ but for the lyrics and beat and shockingly memorable (i still think of it from time to time) sample/hook from EASE BACK the is THE BEST NAS SONG.

Oh and does ANYBODY have the Instrumental for this song?!?!?! It's nearly impossible to find

  • dats wats up this is my favorite nas classic besides the message

  • @beaverboiable yeah the message was a classic song as well. But in my opinion this and What Goes Around (Poison) were a couple of his best songs (Lyrically).
