  • Loved those old RCA microphones! Are those the real thing or repros? Also liked that BTA-1M that was standing there, looked like it was on stand-by. And all of those snaking cables everywhere in the studio, looks like my ham shack!

  • "Dead Air" Dave Michaels must be asleep in the back.

  • OMG!! Thank you so much Don! I've always wanted to see the "technical side" of KSCO. That BTA-1M was my first TX at KVEC! I've worked on one of those Nautel 10kW's in Vegas. I had a 5kW Amphet, that looked exactly like the KOMY 1kW! Thank you for buying Orban! I was their tech support guy for 5 years!!! Happy DX!

  • The equipment in use is not too far out of date, actually. The transmitters are about 15 years old, and work pretty well. There are more efficient designs now, but this stuff works fine. AM broadcast requires big towers, radial ground systems and so forth, so there is no escaping that.

  • I find this stuff riveting... what an amazing array of equipment! I had no idea it was all so extensive. I wonder whether this represents the old "I have as much computing power in my watch as a super computer which filled entire room back in the late 70's" comparison? In other words, would newer equipment take up far less space and be less complicated? Just curious... it seems like you'd need an apprenticeship to learn how to operate and service all that equipment!!

  • KSCO is automated during the overnights. It is this way with many stations now. Security is provided by alarm systems and cameras.

  • Hey! who's running the store here ?? anyone home ??
