  • shawn,i have been playing golf for about 7 years and play approx.4 to 5 days a week.for the last 8 months i have been skying my driver constantly,my handicap has suffered drasticly because of this,at first i thought i was lunging at the ball and may very well may have been, although i am not lunging at the ball anymore i cant stop hitting down on the ball with the driver like i am hitting a short iron,i have been using a 3 wood on almost every tee ,HELP

  • @Mr19dave75 Sorry it took so long to reply; just catching my breath after a very busy season; have a look at my "Grass whip" and "Grass whip on course strategies" as well as the "Awareness to the low point in your swing"; I gather you have already seen my "Great Driver Tip" and my "Rip the driver" videos? Last thing is make sure your eyes are on the back of the ball or the tip of the tee and that you feel that you are always in position to catch the ball on the upswing; Get with my forum too!

  • Thanks Shawn..... I've just been trying the feet together drill and the feel of the swing was great, totally different in a good way. Cheers.

  • This guy is bouncing all over the place. Watch his head... up, down, up. Not good.

  • @tjonesbusiness On the contrary! This up and down is a built in wiring in your central nervous system that allows you to tune into the centrifugal force of the arm-club unit; like a kid standing up on a swing and pumping the centrifugal force of the swing. Your body is designed to do this and will be WAY MORE POWERFUL AND ACCURATE WITH IT!! Stop fearing the mistakes and swing! See "golf pro lesson head bobbing" and "golf pro lesson get more club speed and power"! Shawn

  • hi Sean , when you say swing 'to the target ' is this along the line of the shoulders which will be slighty closed due to the braced tilt? surely then the club path has to be in to out on the downswing which produces a push( or draw if clubface is closed)Or , do you swing back and throigh more on the target line, holding the tilt? If so it feels like the arms are being pushed out on the backswing rather than following the natural arc created by the shoulders.

  • @par1x I have the perfect video for you!! "Golf Pro lesson working the ball" part 1 and 2; it will answer all these questions!

    Shawn

  • Are we gonna get a swing review for 2009?

  • Sort of; I just uploaded "golf pro lesson the insanity of golf" which is a review to drive the point of target home; and a couple more to follow;

    Stay tuned! Shawn

  • Very impressed with how well these tips are presented. Great teacher.

  • Reviewed vids recently while practicing, I am frequently hitting push draws which end up right down the middle a new and aesthetically pleasing ball flight but......not all the time. The other ball flight is more of a straight shot that hooks moderately.....not what I want of course. Third is just straight. For the push draw my feel simulates the "hammering the nail into the board" feel. For the straight shot....I'm keying on a sense of the catapult. Not sure what is causing hook??

  • The hook means that you are releasing too soon; this occurs when your focus defaults to the ball instead of staying on target; so feel that you are allowing the arms to swing freely towards the target through the ball for a hook free swing!

Good analogies for this in "golf pro lesson through the ball" video; Shawn

  • I too also ordered the DVD after seeing the you tube work by Shawn. Well worth the investment, great value.

  • Not just on this video, ALL of them. Outstanding! I actually ordered the DVD, looking forward to seeing it.

I have already seen so much improvement in the last few weeks since I discovered this gem of an internet resource.

Thanks again Shawn! You are a talented guy.

  • Thanks Guys! All the best to you!

    Shawn

  • Great question!

See the "golf pro lesson how much Hit to apply" video; it starts with momentum and then the hit is applied as a momentum assistance through impact; so it starts as a swinging motion with a compression hit through impact; the best of both worlds!

    Shawn

  • Shawn, what's your average swing speed in these videos (let's say 5 or 6 iron)? Keep up the great work!

  • Hey sorry for the late answer!

98 MPH average with 5 iron; 120 mph average with driver...

    Shawn

  • I went to the range today with this video in my mind, with focus on finding the momentum and not striking the ball with force. What a difference! I thank you for improving my game.

    Greetings from Sweden!

  • nice video..

yes...use your body, not your arms....

but man it's a mental thing... lol

  • Hey; thanks for the comment!

I am not saying to not use the arms; the arms have just as much importance as everything else in the swing...the key here is how to use the arms...

    Shawn

  • Shawn! Your videos are great, thank you very much! I am a new golfer getting some quality time in with my dad, and watching these videos is really helping me perfect my swing and keep up with him every sunday.

  • You are welcome Trevor!

    Rock on! Shawn

  • thanks a bunch

  • Shawn, i have a problem when i start downswing. my right suoulder turns left maybe parallel to the target too quick before clubs falling down the plane.

  • Great help shown, I dream you a lot and my swing gets better. My golf partners still do not notice my BREND NEW swing that I keep secret at the moment. I will let them know when I get my bet money back that I have lost for many years. sorry no good english, happy new year/Jung

  • Nicely explained. Always a joy to watch.

Merry xmas Shawn. Thanks for all your video work this year. keep'em coming.

  • Hi Shawn,

I am having a few problems when I set up with my shoulders and hips slightly closed. I shank my shots a lot. Any suggestions?

My husband Norm and I are looking forward to the lessons we have set up with you in May.

Have a wonderful holiday and thank you for all the great videos you have posted.

    Greetings from snowy Vancouver

  • Hello Jette;

You are probably getting to the point of overdoing that pre-turn; feel as if you are just setting up in a way to feel like it will be easy to get out of the way of the momentum on the backswing; remember that the backswing"s takeaway is the same as the backswing of a chip shot; so go to my "Chip Yips" video as well as the "Ball Bearings and Sockets" video and set up without any pre-turn and just focus on making sure you are simply against the left side...then make way for the mo!
