I hope that Finland doesn't give up on mandatory military training. It truly is the backbone of our defence. In modern days too. And it is good school to those snotnoses who can't even make a fire or ski. They should make 12 months the minimum time to serve and discipline should be harder.
ne jotka sanoo porukkaa kynikseks tietää ettei ainakaan ittestä ole mihinkää, vaatii sisua ei niinkään macho lookkia. mukavampi liikkuakkin kun ei ole massaa 50kg ylimäärästä
we had canadian in our brigade, spoke no finnish. But commands u learn fast, and most of ppl speak at least some english so you could manage. It is a little bit easier for foreigners because of languagedifficulties but you dont mind?
I seved as a squad leader in a platoon, where about half were English-speaking and the other half just Finns. We also had one guy who didn't really speak either language. ;)
There are a few basic commands that you'll learn quite quickly. Most of the more complicated stuff during the basic training I explained both in Finnish and English. With even mediocre English skills you should be just fine.
Most foreigners are sent to the Guards Jäger Regiment in Helsinki where there are certain units where they try to concentrate foreigners. It should work pretty well.
I think there is, I remember a teacher of our school stating that there's been Australians, Canadians and Americans in the Finnish Army and they had had no knowledge of our language. Suggest you look up on the matter though. ;D
If they did that would be very cool, but I think you're wrong, why would they train all conscripts in sniper tactics when only a few will actually use it?
Everyone (at least of the FRDF jägers) learns to use the sniper rifles so they can use them in a pinch, only a handful are trained as snipers. Glasses are also no obstacle to being trained as a sniper.
Haha you are so incredibly wrong if you think this is the case, it is completely false for anything other than some élite forces. Even some pilots are allowed to have corrected vision around the world.

@KekkonenKalasti Not easy unless he\she harmed you very badly or is a malicious threat. Else, consider the shooter to be a sadist.

Guards Jäger Regiment has plenty of non-finnish speaking foreigners serving there, it is not a problem.

I'm interested in joining the FRDF after I do my military service in the Guard Jaegers and get my college degree in the states, is this possible?

in II/07 glasses were an obstacle to being trained as a sniper, we have 7 snipers at the moment and three are being kicked out in two weeks.

Maybe they werent training sniper tactics, just shooting with sniper rifles?

Cool video, but how does someone with glasses become a sniper ?

It amazes me that the FDF allows soldiers with glasses in combat roles. I cant come up with any other country that does this.

US Marines can wear glasses. I guess same goes for US army.
MokomaSusi 4 years ago 2
I do have glasses, and it is even much easier to aim and shoot a sniper rifle with glasses on. You just need practice and practice.
Switch741028 4 years ago 2
well, for you its easier (and maybe to other who have glasses) to aim and shoot with sniper rifle ;)
