This is the perfect example of the Jim/Dwight relationship.

Dwight is oblivious to what is going on. He is very intense and is easily manipulated. He acts serious but unknowingly gets himself into funny situations.

Jim on the other hand is very aware of how weird everybody is at the office and exploits other's foibles very well.

Michael Scott is oblivious as well but his jokes stand alone. Jim and Dwight must have each other for either of them to be funny.
