Fantastic cover dude. Was trying to learnt his and seeing you play it just made it click. But can you tell me exactly what chords you're playing in the bridge?
@Blakbruker1 hey. Thanks for your comment. The chords for the "I know, you weren't listening were you?" bit change to A6 (an open A chord but all moved up one string from the D G B strings to the G B E strings) and Em. Hope that helps dude.
@MatDurrance Thanks for that mate. Just give them a strumming to and sounds good (not as good as yours but still) When I've practised a bit more I'll post a vid response
@MatDurrance 3rd time trying to reply, here goes again! Thanks mate for those and so quickly too! I'll post a vid response when/if I can do it half as well as you.
Video's finally done, took me a while to work out how to edit out all the cock ups but got their in the end. Far from perfect and can't do the gruff Leeds accent at all. Fun trying tho!
My band covered this song for a little while. I thought the lyrics said "I wrote it in the bathroom"... I kept pictured David Gedge sitting on the can, smoking and dumping simultaneously, writing a letter all angry. Even when I found out I was wrong I still sang that lyric, about the bathroom... "I might have been a bit rude, I wrote it in the bathroom"... it seems like the perfect place to write an angry love letter.
Lol...That reminds me of a letter written in to the fanzine "Orange Slices" where someone asked Gedge what "I justify dad atom truss you animal" mean't from the same song, Brassneck! There are some songs though that I never knew the lyrics to until I covered them here...Anyway, it's an enduring image you conjured up there! Cheers Mat
Me too !! Exactly the same image: where better to write such a perfect song. I thought for years it was "It might have been a bit screwed, I wrote it in a bathroom" rather than "rude"/"bad mood". And later "It's hard to be engaging..." as in the bathroom's engaged...
it's hard to be engaging when the things you love keep changing! ah, you've made a magic singalong version here - especially after a couple of beers - fair play to you
Hey nitesead. Thanks, really appreciated. I do prefer my newer version of Brassneck though (see in the video responses above) This one was an early effort and I don't put as much Gedgeness into the singing! Cheers again!
je reprends la guitare et je pense pouvoir y arriver aussi, à presque 40 ans il est encore temps : donc ce sera gedge avant d'attaquer bert jensch et john renbourn
This one was one of the first I did and I can see that I didn't put enough into it. Maybe I'll redo it when I'm in a really pissed off. This actually got played on a radio station in America believe it or not. The DJ was a weddoes fan and emailed me to ask my permission to play it on air...I had to thinkl hard about that one...Cheers again.
i really appreciate u doing this it helps crappy guitarists like me no end,i saw them at manningham park and danced drunk in the lake ,great stuff did you go ?
if you want you can take a look at the inebriated and sloppy version I did at a pub in nyc, except there we call it a bar. Played it in E so that I could fudge the leads.
it's in my videos. I'm fully against posting linx in comments, so it's easy to find. just clik my name and hit ctrl-f and type in "brassneck".
Hey. Cheers for your comment. Checked out your version and enjoyed it a lot. You obviously had fun that night ;) Nice guitar sound you got there - liked the (Overdrive?) pedal effect on your acoustic. Always great to hear people doing Wedding Present stuff. Cheers!
I gotcha...you could well be right on the 2-guitars thing...it's always a bit more fiddly adding in the lead phrases with the chords...but I think it's worth it in this case - if only for the end bit - anyway...it's ur interpretation so you play how you like it I guess
matey...that's a great track ur playing but not sure you have the chords quite right... the chord changes at the end/break are v subtle and i believe have additional notes on top of the D and E minor chords ...also i don't think the start/main riff has a g note added on the d - feel free to get back to me if u want a bit more info on the chords - cheers
Hey. Cheers for that. To be honest, I have adapted most of my stuff here to compensate for the fact that there is only one of me playing live...The fantastic originals have at least two guitar tracks...Brassneck is actually a pure D A G with a lead guitar doing the rest. To capture that on one guitar requires some fiddling...I'm not saying I'm accurate but it's pretty close. My version of "million miles" and "Anybody can make a mistake" highlights this... Cheers
ive bookmarked all your vids.very good.this and kevin r my favorites.makes a refreshing change to the originals, which ive listened to for 20 yrs!!wouldnt fancy yr chances of tackling the mighty "take me" though! now theres a challenge!!! keep up the good work!
Cheers for the comments..Always appreciated. I get your point on "Take Me!" Too much for just one mere guitar!!! "My Favourite Dress" on the other hand....Thanks again.
