  • anything related to this movie makes me want to cry. its so nice... soothing and sad.

  • girlfriend sent me here.... *sigh*

  • This is a perfect Smooth Waltz

  • I think it was an accident that they pushed the dislike button.

  • This song is always amazing to dance to. I love it so much, it kind of reminds me of Swan Lake.

  • This makes me want to learn the violin, just so I can play this song.

  • This gives my body goosebumps. This is what I imagine they play in Heaven.

  • I totally agree with you Whisper, they obviously lack appreciation for the haunting beautiful emotions this soundtrack (AND movie) so clearly evoke........

  • I want to see a real Geisha ! [ thumbs up if you want too ]

  • all this movie is about is a good person surrounded by a bunch of bitches.

  • @Rachulie But they are beautiful bitches!

  • The music of this movie is very beautiful...

  • One of my favorite pieces to play on my violin(:

    amaazziing(:

  • So beautiful

  • it's funny that 2 of the major characters are not even japanese XD, michele yeoh and ziyi zhang

  • I so heartily agree with you Blckhrt, this movie on so many levels profoundly affected me.......

  • This movie is so beautiful. Everything about it is just captivating!! As soon as I saw the trailed, I instantly wanted to watch it. But, my mother said Geisha's were like high-class hookers, and that it was probably innapropriate for my age. But as soon as I saw it on sale for DVD, I managed to get it. I watched it, and fell in love. Everything about this film is beautiful. The music never fails to send shivers down my spine, the Geisha never fail to amaze me with the beauty and grace . . . ♥

  • th best part is at the end of the movie when the two reunited and found eachother again it waz beautiful and i cried as well

  • The first time I watched this movie I didn't think it was that great, but the second time I watched it when I was older I was amazed by this film. The soundtrack, the outfits and the cinematography. Watching the behind-the-scenes dvd was also inspiring. So much work went into this wonderful film.

  • the movie (and the book) would have been so much better if the information and history of geisha wouldn't have been so god damn incorrect... who cares if the actreses were chinese? They only did that so that westerners would find them "gorgeous", as the japanese standard of beauty is not the same as the western standard. I'm sure that the chinese were happy to get actresses from their country known world wide. AND proud!

  • @Theklamp i dont think thats quite right, i think they were put in the movie so that the famous names would be recognized. in general, japanese actresses/ actors havent made it over here yet whereas the chinese have. also, there are many japanese that westerners find "gorgeous" so im not entirely sure what youre talking about. plus, the japanese standard and chinese standards of beauty are quite similar.

  • @Theklamp (besides ken watanabe of course, he is the only japanese actor who is famous in the west that i can think of)

  • Thanks for the posting for everyone to listen to free. I hope the movie owners earn a zillion dollars on the film for which I paid for four tickets---well worth it. : 8>}

  • I couldn't stop watching this movie when we first got it. I loved it so much! I watched it every day for like 2-3 weeks! It never got old! Loved the music the most though. It fit with the movie perfectly...Love it so much.

  • What a beauty SYTYCD loved it love the song and the movie great job on the pics..

  • this song and the movie always give me the shivers <3 its my favorite movie

  • The movie would have been better if the Geisha were Japanese.

  • @Classified978 who cares? They choose famous actresses and i don't know a single japanese actress that is known all over the world

  • @TheSitHamster

He/she makes a good point because both cultures were insulted by the use of non-japanese actresses to portray the roles. The Japanese basically got their culture depicted incorrectly and the Chinese had their own actresses portraying a culture that they have very bitter feelings toward. It'd be like a British person (accent and all) playing George Washington or some other very American figure.

  • @sweetaction910 Is that incorrect depicting of japanese culture due to the origin of the actresses?

I'd thought it would have been the script or directing. I can't believed everyone in these countries felt insulted, otherwise Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi would never have accepted to play these roles.

  • This composition is extremely beautiful, OMG!!!!

  • damn I feel no strength left after watching the movie =_= everything good comes from Japan

  • the lady at 2:30 is so pretty

  • even though people say this song changes there life, it dosnt, its the actions you choose. but its still veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrryyy relaxing seires (watching all 16 )

  • loved this movie, didn't like how it portrayed geisha thou. Golden tainted reality. But yes I cannot get over how lovely and mesmorizing the soundtrack is, especially this one.

  • Seen this movie 3 or 4 times now.

LOVED it every single time, although it became sadder and sadder each consecutive time.

No I'm not a girl, and yes I am straight.

  • No other piece of instrumentation has moved me quite as much as the chairman;s waltz....so beautiful

  • i never want to stop listening to this<3 its absolutely breathtaking

  • No, thank chu. :)

  • "Can't you see? Every step I have taken...has been to bring myself closer to you."''

    (paraphrased)

  • You have to admit..the chairman is handsome :3

  • This composition borders on the sublime. Exquisitely beautiful composition by John Williams a world renown classical guitarist and YoYo Ma's interpretation is so full of passion and the nuances make it so very special. Truly I don't think any other instrument could have served this composition better then the violin.

  • @pluggedin2u You are giving credit to the wrong person. John Williams composed this, but YoYo a is NOT the one who is responsible for the mesmerizing violin. For that give credit to Itzhak Perlman!

  • @KayWildcat Is it Perlman? Opps! I could have sworn it was Yo-Yo. Both are world class musicians. Thanks for the correction. I need to check the credits before I start writng my blogs. Thanks again.

  • @pluggedin2u No problem! But yes, both are world class artists....just remember....despite knoing how to play the violin, YoYo Ma is the master of the cello, not the violin. This is those very personal scores to John Williams in which he REALLY cared about giving out the best music possible, hence he got the best cello player and best violin player he could get!

  • the stills from the movie are exquisite!

  • this song picks up your soul, carries in the air, and shatters it with the sheer power and magic. that is what i think anyway.

  • omg im doing my ballet dance to this song and becoming a geisha!

  • The violin in this always gives me the chills every time.

  • the violin in this song made me want to cry! this movie is so beautiful.....

  • When I bought this soundtrack, listening to this song the first time on its own.....it was overwhelmingly beautiful. It's almost hard to listen to, like the strings are pulling on your heart.

  • @sincitymut Absolutely agree! It is unspeakably beautiful - really, beyond words. What heights we humans can rise to with music. How sad that we can be like that to our fellow humans!

  • @paulkate72 Your soo right.

  • I love this movie as a separate entity from the book. Itzhak Perlman, and Yo-Yo Ma are sheer musical genius.

  • I watched this film yesterday on tv, its amazing, i so liked it :) this music is my favourite! :P

  • 4 people were crying so hard they pressed the dislike button.

  • How can somebody dislike this music? From where do they get enough strengh to press "unlike" button?

  • 4 people dont know what real music is

  • Love this song, and I love listening to the violin!

  • listen to it with your eyes closed and tell me your mind doesnt wander to another time (:

  • I have yet to see this movie and just based on this song...if i like nothing else I will enjoy the score

  • This is my favorite piece from this movie. It's so enchanting and it makes you feel such romance and mystery. I listen to this repeatedly. I also love Yo-Yo Ma!

  • Esoteric perfection, a breathtaking masterpiece: The Chairman's Waltz!

  • sheer and utter perfection .

All songs on the soundtrack are so great and touching for some reason i wanna cry D:

  • It's hauntingly beautiful. Excellence.

  • Beyond excellence

  • was i the only one that hears the cello?

  • This music is so breath-taking. The movie is just excellent, but the book is a masterpiece. I even teared up at some parts, and few books can make me do that.

  • there's something about this piece, it's a smooth, calm pressure, like something's gonna happen, and it's just an awaiting for a moment. Moment, who's changing your life forever

  • there's something about this piece, it's a smooth, calm pressure, like something's gonna happen, and it's just an awaiting for a moment. Moment, who's changing your life forever

  • Trusted name on Latino women marriage service rockmycity.info

  • i absolutly LOVE this movie, but when it comes to the true story behind it i would have to read Geisha, a Life by Mineko Iwaski

  • I bet if this movie had flying geishas with razor-blade fans it would have more approvable.

WHAT HAS BECOME OF THIS WORLD??

    :l

  • Does Hatsumomo-san end of training Chiyo-chan in becoming a Geisha?

  • @Gackupo She does not; Chiyo is able to become a geisha.

  • This movie is so underrated its crazy how good movies get overlooked and bashed

  • @smallwoods9700

it was nominated for 6 oscars and won three including best cinematography and took over $150million at the box office!

It wasn't bashed, and it wasn't overlooked.

  • This movie is so amazing. I absolutely love it's Cinematography & soundtrack. It's a beautiful movie & couldn't of been any better.

  • @BlckHrt141 Only if they spoke only Japanese ^^

  • How can three people dislike this? Even if they don't like the movie, there is no way that anybody could dislike this song! It's lilting and beautiful and sad.

  • This is my favourite song on the whole soundtrack. It's so beautiful and yet haunting at the same time. Amazing music and great movie. :)

  • when you say john williams i think of the triumpant fanfares of superman, starwars, indiana jones...but not of beauty like this. i have so much more respect for him now than ever!!!

  • @sax3740 then you need to hear more from him!!!! start with schindler's list, angela's ashes and the terminal, or these tracks from different movies:"a window to the past" ; "Luke and leia", "princess leia theme", "suo gan", "exsultate justi", "am i beautiful?"; "Father and son"; "Theme from Sabrina"and "The party Sequence"... and let me know what you think!! =D

  • a magical song... sad but beautiful...

  • There is no one like John williams.

  • love this music! this song is the sole reason i took up violin.

  • the film wasnt nearly as amazing as the book... but the music in the film is absolutely breathtaking. john williams is amazing!!

  • Yo-yo Ma never fials to impress. He is one great Celloist

  • @B1TCHZO3Y /cough there's no "o" in the word.

  • this has to be one of the most gorgeous violin/cello duets ever created. i love how the movie uses mostly strings to create that aura of beauty and mystery that surronds geishas <3

  • i remember when this film came out. i thought it was gonna be lame. But it open my eyes to something new. and let me explore this culture through the eyes of a geisha and of this girl and her life and so on. the music fits so perfectly. everything just fits in so smoothly into this film. its amazing how how much i love this movie now ^^

  • just a suggestion: DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING WIKIPEDIA SAYS... its a great point to start, but when it comes to facts, its happened a lot that what it says is not true... i mean, ANYONE can write in wikipedia, and its happened that people deliberately write fake stuff... anyhow, just a suggestion...

  • The actor playing the chairman was so handsome in this movie.

  • Actually, she did ask to not be revealed, or the names of the people she knew, or the story to be written until her death. And that is what the author did. Waited until her death. Not messed up at all. Just read the book. I loved the book and the movie. awesome.

  • @MaryakaFerrari

What are you talking about? No such thing happened, it's fiction.

This is the true story: Arthur Golden interviewed several geisha for the novel, one of them was Iwasaki Mineko (currently living in Kyoto). However, he was very unprofessional. He messed up facts (f.e. about mizuage) and revealed Iwasaki's name. She later even sued the author!

  • I think it was just a tragic mistake between two different cultures. She never does out right say that the book isn't true. I'm not taking sides. Just sayin'.

  • I just adore this piece as well as the movie. I've heard that the book is a lot better though...

  • Yeah i heard that a lot of the characters that the movie depicted as negative were actually quite positive when it came to the main character's development. I also read on WIkipedia that the woman DID ask to remain a mystery, but the author included her name anyway. So messed up :(

Anyway, this is a fantastic piece of music! John Williams never fails to impress!

  • In the movie, we didn't see many aspects of her character and the only emotion revealed was her lust for the Chairman whereas in the book, her character is more insightful and overall more detailed. In the book it was more love and lust rather than JUST lust. Frankly speaking, the book was much better. But the movie wasn't so bad, just not as good. I like the soundtrack though.

  • Movies are very rarely better than the books.

  • I love this movie, the soundtrack and the original book... I was pretty shocked when I saw an interview with the geisha who told all the information to the author... she was really angry about the book, because he used names she didn't want him to use and changed some of the traditional aspects :(

  • @Donnajulia Can u please try to send me the interview?? i try to look it up, but cant seem to find it, i want to know about the real geisha too ):

  • @Donnajulia

The author is a complete moron, I'm sure she asked him not to reveal her identity or the people she spoke of, yet he DID. If it hadn't been for that geisha then he wouldn't have had a book at all! He bedimmed the lifestyle of a geisha, thus portraying a bad image of them. He's an ass, full stop but great book though.

  • You know that the book was fiction, right?

  • Eh, ignore my last comment. Wikipedia is helpful. I think I'll go read Geisha, A Life now. :P

  • I adore it<3333333

  • lieblingslied.♥

    so wunderwunderschön!

  • Literally could not put this book down. The movie is stunning too!

  • Beautiful.

I dont care what people say about this film, i think it was excellent and the music...breathtaking

  • @untoldivy what did people say

  • The critics for the movie mostly gave negative ratings on it. I think i read somewhere someone gave this movie a 5.5 out of 10, which i think is rediculous for something with such beauty.

With the amount of preperation done for this movie it deserves better.

  • i read somewhere that critics thought Sayuri wasnt really a "full character" more that she was just a....er...mix of different....stereotypes? of women? she was too innocent maybe?

im not even sure, i read it like a year ago

but it was something like that

  • @untoldivy I completely agree!!! :)

  • @untoldivy Iamagree with U this film was amazing and beautiful i love it and the music WOW! like say breathtaking!

  • This is my favorite song from the movie.

  • Comment removed

  • The person who plays this Violin solo was Itzhak Perlman! :D

  • Both, Yo-Yo Ma, cello and Itzhak Perlman, Violin

  • Yes they both played Solo! :)

  • Sometimes i wonder why i even bother playing violin, then i listen to these songs and i remember

  • i'm not into the violin, i'm into the music at 0:08
