I think you made mistake, you said that the dog in 'the dog of the man' would be genitive, which isn't true. The man would be gentive e.g. canis/canem viri--> the dog of the man in which viri (man) is genitive and canis (dog) is nominative or a accusative.
im in the US but am lucky enough to have a latin teacher from england, so i learn the declensions in the english order, which is much easier. keep up the good work crayons!
different from French? Sure about that? French is a vulgar latin language. In form and context it is latin. Many of the words in French, Italian and Spanish are identical to classic latin.
@SOLISDEUS I honestly can't remember offhand what I was referring to, but pretty sure it was in reference to how verbs are formed; Latin is inflective, French is not.
@SOLISDEUS Yeah it's true, but the problem as when i read any phrase in Latin, the sintaxis and the grammar isn't similar to the spanish,i don't know how is the french or the italian i know that are very similar to the spanish but i cannot understand those languages easily though I speak spansh,so if i cannot understand the italian that is more similar than the french, the latin is unintelligible for me.
Instead i find more similar the Latin with the german as the spanish for example.
I cannot afford to go to college yet so this is awesome been wanting to learn, nice video on the basics, by the way cool accent Scottland has some nice places and history, don't hold it agaist me though I am part Irish XD anyway have a nice day! :)
Correcting your example for the Genitive: man is genitive whereas dog is nominative. If you add a verb, the dog would be performing the action. Alternatively, you can say "The man's dog," which more clearly shows that 'man' is possessive and 'dog' is not. Again, you can insert a verb, and the dog will still be the subject of the sentence. To take your example:
Vir canis valet. - The man of the dog (the dog's man) is strong.
Canis viri valet. - The dog of the man (the man's dog) is strong.
The best noun I could find for 'future' was the English equivalent of 'posterity/future generations;' Can somebody else with a more extensive knowledge than me give a better noun?

Correction: 'The dog of the man' or 'The man's dog'
'The dog' would not in the genitive.
'The dog' would be either in the accusative or the nominative case and 'the man' would be in the genitive case.

Somebody could translate this sentence to me please; " Sane sicut lux se ipsam et

I've tried, but the word "ipsam" is nowhere... I can't find the translation of it.
Thank you!

you roll your R's a bit to much, but u understand the grammar which is awsome
MaStErPhReSh333 1 year ago
@MaStErPhReSh333 It's mainly my accent (Scottish) that causes the rolling, though Latin would have had a very similar sound with the rolling.
