How is this scene possible? Rhys-Davies is taller than Viggo Mortensen, yet he somehow seems dwarf-height without kneeling like he usually did in these shots if forced perspective was impractical...
John Rhys- Davies is awesome: he's one of the few who managed to embody his character (others that come to mind are Gandalf, Sam, & Aragorn), heck, he IS Gimli! I mean Really nailed down his character, love him for that!
@LadyOfNargothrond The LE just have never-before-seen Behind the Scenes stuff, MOVIE-WISE they have the same theatrical and extended editions that have previously been released. So the LE is really just for diehard fans who care about the process of filming.
@unstrungzero So does that mean the Extended edition has all the same commentaries and deleted movie scenes, but not the same making-of extras like this that the Limited edition does? I'm so confused. I don't want to miss any extras, and this'll be the first DVD set of LOTR I've bought, so I want to get the 'right' one. :(
@AshenPhoenix The Limited Edition DVDs have both the Theatrical and Extended versions of the movies, and each movie has one bonus disc of about 2 hours of behind-the-scenes features that have not been seen before. The Extended Edition DVDs are actually better in my opinion because they have 2 bonus discs PER MOVIE of hours and hours of interviews and making of features and they have the 4 different commentaries on the actual movies themselves.
@smallville14fan i have to disagree very slightly. i think legolas is the best. but your quotes are some of my favorite! along with, "what did i tell ya? he can't hold his liquor..."
@abcasd1 they normally use special computer effects to make them smaller. Also, for the hobbits I think they said they used children for some scenes (but you could only see the backs of them)
@Mellenzz95 Children were only used a handful of times, usually there were just dwarfs or similar shorter people. John Rhys Davies' stunt/scale double wasn't a dwarf, though, since he was supposed to be taller than the hobbits, he was just a short man.
@Priest22 I said his stunt/scale double was a short man, not John Rhys Davies; to stay in scale with the dwarfs that were the doubles for the Hobbit actors.
they make him seem small by movie magic. lolz! he actually called him 'wench' lol! "now there's a man, unlike you cow-clunking buggers" lolz! <3 Gimli
OH Gimli! he just makes my day....uhh my only dream would be to that middle earth actually existed and Faramir was mine!!!! and the Gimli Legolas Aragorn and the hobbits would all live with us!! oh and Gandalf ofcourse!!!
There are no differences in the MOVIE with the Limited Edition, the DVDs just have both the extended version and the theatrical version. The only thing different is that instead of all the special discs of features in the EE, the LE just has one disc each movie with an hour and a half/two hour behind the scenes feature of things not previously seen before. Which is why I posted all these videos. :)

@Lightice1 If you look closely when Rhys-Davies is walking away in the end you can see the platform that Viggo stood on to gain the necessary height.

so how did they make him short? kneel?
abcasd1 2 years ago 3
Like the hobbits, he either knelt down, others stood on boxes/raised platforms, OR they used his stunt/scale double.
