This happens all over all the time , I've seen officers use there lights to blow stop signs and red lights , and I've seen them do 90 on the high way , I know this because I use them as my lead , this is to say I let them go in front of me and then I proceed to follow . I usually do this with nice sports cars that I suspect to have a police scanner, but following cop cars is always my best bet .
I am totally OK with her pulling him over because if I was going 120 and weaving in and out of traffic I would not get away with it. Cops are not above the law but usually get away with anything. My hat goes off the the Highway Patrol officer. NO one should be above the law. There's a lot of us out there who go like only 10mph over and get stopped and the cops don't give a damn that we're "late for work", also if we were also doing 100mph or over and didn't stop for 4+ minutes, you BET the police will have their guns drawn too! The actions of Officer Lopez aren't justifiable, but the actions of FHP Watts are even less. She had no reason to pull a gun out on a fellow police officer, and even less for a traffic violation. Most people here know not much about the situation. FHP Watts ignored 2 orders from her acting supervisor, which in law enforcement is a pretty serious offense. She claims officer Lopez speeding at around 120mph, but the distance he covered in 7 minutes proves otherwise. The first order she ignored was when her supervisor told her to stand down, and she didn't. And after officer Lopez pulled over, her supervisor told her to issue a citation, and she clearly ignored that order also.
Police needs to clean it up, too many bad manners and criminal actions from a few people making their own laws.

The speed limit in that area is 60 mph. This officer was more than 60 mph over that. He didn't pull over for the trooper for over 4 1/2 minutes. At that speed, they traveled almost 10 miles. How many lives were in danger in that distance?
Cops: If a person was doing 120 in a 60, you wouldn't pull them over? If they refused to stop for 10 miles, you wouldn't arrest them? Of course you would. The fact that he has a badge doesn't change the law.

Have any of you considered the fact that the actions of both the trooper & the officer were wrong? The MPD officer's speed was certainly excessive, under these circumstances. However, there are other ways the trooper could, & certainly should have, handled it. The trooper had no justifiable reason to pull another uniformed LEO from his marked patrol car at gunpoint & handcuffed him. They're both lucky;the situation could've ended tragically for all. I commend the officer for his professionalism.

This happens all over all the time , I've seen officers use there lights to blow stop signs and red lights , and I've seen them do 90 on the high way , I know this because I use them as my lead , this is to say I let them go in front of me and then I proceed to follow . I usually do this with nice sports cars that I suspect to have a police scanner, but following cop cars is always my best bet .

My hat goes off the the Highway Patrol officer. NO one should be above the law. There's a lot of us out there who go like only 10mph over and get stopped and the cops don't give a damn that we're "late for work", also if we were also doing 100mph or over and didn't stop for 4+ minutes, you BET the police will have their guns drawn too! The actions of Officer Lopez aren't justifiable, but the actions of FHP Watts are even less. She had no reason to pull a gun out on a fellow police officer, and even less for a traffic violation. And for those of you preaching the "the patrol car could've been stolen," she ran the plates and the patrol car checked out fine. Most people here know not much about the situation. FHP Watts ignored 2 orders from her acting supervisor, which in law enforcement is a pretty serious offense. She claims officer Lopez speeding at around 120mph, but the distance he covered in 7 minutes proves otherwise. The first order she ignored was when her supervisor told her to stand down, and she didn't. And after officer Lopez pulled over, her supervisor told her to issue a citation, and she clearly ignored that order also.

The speed limit in that area is 60 mph. This officer was more than 60 mph over that. He didn't pull over for the trooper for over 4 1/2 minutes. At that speed, they traveled almost 10 miles. How many lives were in danger in that distance?
Cops: If a person was doing 120 in a 60, you wouldn't pull them over? If they refused to stop for 10 miles, you wouldn't arrest them? Of course you would. The fact that he has a badge doesn't change the law.

Have any of you considered the fact that the actions of both the trooper & the officer were wrong? The MPD officer's speed was certainly excessive, under these circumstances. However, there are other ways the trooper could, & certainly should have, handled it. The trooper had no justifiable reason to pull another uniformed LEO from his marked patrol car at gunpoint & handcuffed him. They're both lucky;the situation could've ended tragically for all. @mikelwry1 First off, he WAS caught doing 120mph. It was in the report and he never even tried to refute it. Second, professional courtesy does NOT include looking the other way while a fellow officer breaks the law. They are not above the law, they have to follow the same rules as you and I. When they break the law and get caught they should face the same penalties as anyone else, plain and simple as that.
