I dont have Cancer but i suffer from Low platelets my whole life...and had to get many platelet transfusions...So just to say thanks to the people who donated their platelets that saved my life . THANK YOU <3
@dcnaturist2000 I wish I could edit my post. They want platelets from everyone, but they specifically are encouraging A positive, B positive, and O positive males to donate platelets instead of whole blood per redcrossblood org website. You can watch a movie while you donate. It's easy!
@char675 I think it is levels of RBC destruction that resulted in the FDA going with 24 times a year. Just be glad you're not in Japan, their donation frequency is (IIRC) considerably less.
@sneakers55 how much less is it in Japan? what does IIRC mean? I know its aganist the law, but if they paid donors or gave better gifts to platelet donors there would be more donations. The girls at the Red Cross told me that people don't like to have a needle in them for 45 or more minutes. She said if they gave better gifts, maybe it would help. Some people are fussy
@XYtruck25 A Japanese donation is 200mL or 400 mL and the delay to the next donation is 12 weeks (male donor) or 16 weeks (female donor). IIRC = "If I remember correctly."
I would like to meet him. I am so inspired to promote the awareness of platelets. My father has been diagnosed with cancer and is fighting for his life. I never knew about this until now. I'm so glad I donated 3 days ago. I'm volunteering my time to go around and spread awareness! :D Thank you for doing what you do!!!!
I donate platelets ever week. 7 days for you to come back. You know what, there are 8 chairs for platelet donation. Usually when I do the interview I see one person. then I donate for 1-2 hours. No one is there. Nurse says people don't want to wait. Too much in a hurry. A nurse watches the machine here. The nurse's that watch us, they go outside ever 10 minutes to smoke. I remember one time I farted real loud. 2 people were donating. They pulled the needle out and left the room.
@AryaSravaka Hi; I use to donate every 7 days. But the FDA said 24 times in a calendar year. Every 2 weeks for me. In europe you can donate platelets every 7 days, as many times in a year. Damm FDA. I do a triple unit of platelets for over a year, because of my body weight and height. Most the nurse says people only do 1 unit. 45 minutes for 1 unit. 93 minutes for a triple.
@AryaSravaka....Also, I live here in Arizona. I think you stopped by once for United Blood service. They have a party once a year for platelet donors, called Silent Hero's, I saw your name on the list of guest speakers.

@jennmeto Can you complete a sentence? I'm just saying, because so are a lot of sentence fragments.
