@noblesiner cos it eases white guilt 2give blacks awards specially if theres white hero (not that the black actors dont deserve it for this film), many whites have an inbuilt God complex.-for those that do it makes it hard for some of them to see a films by blacks or featuring blacks depicted in a lead as great capable, beautiful, intelligent, articulate, able, pioneering, multi-layered, depthy, ingenuitive, self sufficent, together & in control) cos all of that would make us equal
@noblesiner That's not true. Look at Viola's career, for example. She has two Tony awards and three Tony nominations for great roles in August Wilson plays. She was also nominated for an Oscar a few years ago for a great role in Doubt.
@TruthSerum101 All those August wilson plays she was in that were nominated for multiple awards had an undertone of black second class citizenship. All the stories revolve around black characters who are victims of circumstance. I have yet to see any black actors earn any awards in the film industry that are considered to be massively prestigious for playing Characters who are empowered and not victims.
@noblesiner “2nd class” people have always played a powerful role in building this country. It would be ahistorical to exclude them. I did Fences years ago & never considered Rose (Davis’ 2nd Tony) as just a victim of circumstances. Davis burned a hole through the theatre in King Hedley (1st Tony)–every visceral move was fire. Actors love complex, flawed & challenging characters. Playing perfection is BORING. Claire Huxtable isn't the stuff that makes us want to study acting.
why werent any of the white actors asked questions? lol

Why are blacks only venerated when they play in roles of degradation.
