VXR shits all over the Mini Cooper S, shits all over the Astra GSI, and will deffo shit all over the ST, although an ST is a really nice car and i admit, handles better than a Corsa, but seen as i have driven both and currently own a VXR standard, i find my VXR much better :)
Ive had my St 7 months an hate people who call it Gutless, just because its a 2.0 that does 150 bhp, Not considering ford had bit of a squeez to get it in. I think they've done well. Plus the K&N 57i is a fab lil power boost an sounds amazing. Id highly recommend it :)
i know the vauxhall corsa vxr is £2000 more than the sri but that is the top of the range corsa. so it would be better if they had used that because the ST is the top range fiesta

BHP and power arent everything and racing in the street is illegal. I drive a 3i6d at work and through better planning and road visualisation I make better time than much faster cars. Predicting lane movements and driver behaviour has more impact on A to B times than gut power. We needed a 4 door car as #2 and we went 1.4SRi 5dr. What they dont tell you here is build quality and cabin feel. of the Vauhall is top of the sub compact class.
how can you 2.0 vs a 1.6? to be honest the corsa did great dont u think? 1 second slower than a 2.0 thats 400cc plus all u gotta do to help the handling is add new lowered suspention. which is best in fuel/insurance. and also i dont know why all these company and shows have against vauxhall. just think about it lets race a 1.6 zetec vs a 1.6 sri just proves they can get the same performance out of a 1.6 to a 2.0. im not dissing the st as i know its a great car its comparing the two its not fair
You're forgetting that the 1.6L sri in this vid has a turbo, the ST doesn't but its a 2.0L, It kind of evens it out, you won't get as much turbo lag out of a smaller engine & car such as the sri, both great cars in my opinion aswell though, although I do favour the ST
It's true that the st is quicker round a track, the proof is in the vid! now I do like both the st and the Sri, however, for the looks, it's the Sri anyday, not only on the outside, but also on the inside, if only ford had gone through a bit more time and money to make the interior a more enjoyable place to be, it would be a top little motor!
These cars are very closely matched but the Sri is the better car, speed and handling isn't everything, my mate had an st n the gearbox went twice! supp
So the track they gauged on had enough turns for the ST's superior handling to give it the advantage. But it could just as easily have had enough straights for the SRi's superior torque curve to give IT the advantage. Which brings us back to everyday driving, and the fact that most roads don't look like racing tracks. They have less bends...
@maffew286 I'm not trying to take away from the ST's victory. I'm just establishing that a narrow advantage on a racing track doesn't say much about a car's usability. You might be overlooking the fact that the SRi has a superior torque curve to the ST. That's why its faster. Torque distribution and handling are the most important factors in a car's performance.
And no one said the SRi handles badly, it just handles worse than the ST, which is no surprise given that most cars do.

@maffew286 Again, no one cares about how two cars gauge on an arbitrary racetrack. Point of information: a naturally aspirated 1.6 corsa will keep up with an ST up to 80kph. So a turbo 1.6 is easily the faster car. To those of you who aren't planning on gunning it around bends in some kind of extended streetrace, the SRi has better performance and gear ratios. Yes the ST has awesome handling, but awesome handling is a novelty. It won't help you in a drag race, it won't help you on a freeway.

2 cars going at 70mph. SRI is 0.5 of a sec faster than the ST..they go around a 45' bend the SRI slows down to 30 for the turn. the ST 45. what car over takes? and the SRI with a acceleration 0.5 seconds quicker than the ST speeds up to 70mph same with the ST.. what cars in front... oh the ST!

@ssjblind Having driven both a corsa and a fiesta I can say with some surety that the ford chassis design is about the only thing you'd be missing out on. The corsa is ranked as the 34th most reliable car of the decade, that's two spots in front of the vw golf and fifteen in front of the vw polo. Their engines are notoriously sporty and gear ratios are ideal. So no I don't trust you at all on that one, I trust my experience with both of the cars and the subsequent research I've done on them.

The fiesta has much better handling and will overall be a better car. Even the VXR wouldn't be much quicker the handling is shocking and it costs a damn site more. And may I just add performance fords always hold their value a damn site better.
@Englandforever91 lol if you say so... i brought my vxr for 14.5k and i got it valued a year laiter at just over 12.5k and i have racked on 10k miles lol. and the corsa vxr chassis is fantastic it is faster then the st in all sence of the word. evan the new fiesta st coming out is 0 - 60 in 6.9 seconds and the chassis hasnt changed a bit just lowerd where as the new corsa vxr nurburg is 0 - 60 6.5 its lowerd has an lsd brembro brakes so again faster and better handaling :)
@maffew286 im a vauxhall owner i have a corsa vxr arctic 204 bhp, i love the corsa sri its is a brilliant car the handaling is sorted with some coilovers and a set of rollbars and then a phase 3 remap brings it up to 190 odd bhp, the fezza is also a brilliant car although it is no where nere as agressive as the corsa in terms of acceleratoin, this argument tho i feel pointless, its really what you prefere i like drag other people like track so the argument is null and void on that bases.
maybe a good tip for the ones going for some more power..pumaspeed has some neat stuff for trackdriving.
want a bigger car for trackdriving => go for a second hand focus st prefacelift..prices are pretty good nowadays . and many fordlover's cars out there with not that much milages ...
what ever you choose , tuning it for trackdriving is pretty cheap for these cars !
The fiesta is a great little trackday-funcar aswell for youngsters and adults.
Racing on track is pretty pricey and a fiesta st is just a great car that ford has given us 'amateurs' to trash about. Ok, there are many other alternatives , younger and older..nevertheless , whoever driven a fiesta like this, knows the handling, steering etc are a great base for trackdriving amateurs and semi-pro funcars .
It's cheap to restore if crashed and really is a good starting-rig for the money .

because back when the astra VXR was new the focus RS didnt even exist. the civic type R, focus ST and golf GTI were the competitor's top of the line cars.
i never said the fiesta wasnt a better car than the corsa SRI, i said it wasnt fair comparing ford's flagship to vauxhall's mid range car. the SRI is the kind of car that should be tested against the zetec S, ford's own warm model.
hardly fair comparing vauxhall's mid range hot hatch to ford's top end (seeing as they never did a fiesta RS, and that the VXR badge is pretty much in direct competition with the ST badge)
i think ford are better because ford have good engines and also many sports car manufactures e.g. koneggsegg plus jaguar and ford have been good partners along woth aston martin. the ford chasis have been tuned by aston martin. so i would go with the fiesta becuase it has those racing styled stripes and those cool lookin rims
i own a corsa vxr and my next door neighbour owns a fiesta st . . both are good cars in their own ways.
And in terms of reliability i know of a couple of horror stories of both cars; in the end it comes down to a mixture of sheer luck and how well the car is looked after. From my own experiences, my 2007 vxr has never put a foot wrong as yet nor has my neighbours 2007 st.

You actually cant compare the two cars. Because you are comparing new generation of Corsa with old generation of Fiesta. She hit the nail on the head the corsa has understeer and handling issues, its a fact, I experience these with my new corsa under normal driving conditions! Opel is an okay car, ford is just a little better, however they both nice cars. BTW I have a new corsa and now getting the Opel Insignia, hopefully the 2009 car of the year will be an impovement on the corsa.
If you want reliable I've had my EP3 Civic Type R for just over 5 years and done 82,000 miles in it, its had many track days in that time and it has been thrashed within an inch of its life so many times I've lost count and do want to know what's gone wrong with it in all that time? Absolutly nothing, Its 6 years old now and apart from natural wear and tear, tyres,etc i have spent £0 on it. never failed an MOT and never missed a beat....
Vauxhalls arent reliable and I think it's a cheek for them to even think they have a battle with ford. Vauxhalls are so poorly made and fall apart. Ford beat vauxhall at all events and are much more sort after. Not to forget the price difference in 2nd hand fords and vauxhalls.

I have a normal 1.2 SXi+ Corsa, and although I think it's a great car in ways (comfortable enough, economical, easy), a Fiesta eats it in terms of steering feel and how alive it feels
the Vauxhall engines are far better though. my 1.2 Twinport revs through to the redline much more cleanly and strongly than a 1.25 Fiesta, and on a wide, open road it eats my friend's Fiesta 1.25
Vauxhalls are ok in straight lines but can never do corners properly, that's why all these cunt chavs drive them for traffic light racing because if they had to do a bend they'd get pissed all over.
i drove the sri when i went looking for a new car eventually went for the vxr as it had so much more to offer for little more money but the sri is fun to drive the throttle response is great just pulls and pulls and it looks like a normal corsa so gives people a shock when you whip them at the lights. My vxr they know whats coming but shes a beut ;)
fiesta ST ftw! such a good car! cheap to tune up, repair and the engine in them is fantastic, when your thrashing it or day to day driving. not driven an sri but the VXR is nice for handling, but the engine is not good, especially when driving normally, the turbo kicks in just as your about to change gear which gets annoying v quickly, fast though. the ST just feels good, the power surges up to 5.5k and is very easy to chuck into bends, and easy to correct when pushing it to the limit
im on my third ford now, rs2000 mk5 :D wouldnt dare own a piece of shit vauxhall. my mates have vauxhalls and all they do is complain that something is broke or not working.

I always find a bit ironic that back in the 80's and 90's, when the basic fiesta was pretty shit, they offered both XR2i and RS turbo versions.
With the MK4, which had a much better chassis, the best the gave it was the 1.6 zetec s with 102bhp. And with this shape they gave it 148bhp.
The car could easily handle the 170bhp focus 2.0, if not more.
Shame Ford won't give the newest fiesta an engine it really deserves.

BHP and power arent everything and racing in the street is illegal. I drive a 3i6d at work and through better planning and road visualisation I make better time than much faster cars. Predicting lane movements and driver behaviour has more impact on A to B times than gut power. We needed a 4 door car as #2 and we went 1.4SRi 5dr. What they dont tell you here is build quality and cabin feel. of the Vauhall is top of the sub compact class.

You're forgetting that the 1.6L sri in this vid has a turbo, the ST doesn't but its a 2.0L, It kind of evens it out, you won't get as much turbo lag out of a smaller engine & car such as the sri, both great cars in my opinion aswell though, although I do favour the ST

It's true that the st is quicker round a track, the proof is in the vid! now I do like both the st and the Sri, however, for the looks, it's the Sri anyday, not only on the outside, but also on the inside, if only ford had gone through a bit more time and money to make the interior a more enjoyable place to be, it would be a top little motor!
These cars are very closely matched but the Sri is the better car, speed and handling isn't everything, my mate had an st n the gearbox went twice! supp

So the track they gauged on had enough turns for the ST's superior handling to give it the advantage. But it could just as easily have had enough straights for the SRi's superior torque curve to give IT the advantage. Which brings us back to everyday driving, and the fact that most roads don't look like racing tracks. They have less bends...

@maffew286 I'm not trying to take away from the ST's victory. I'm just establishing that a narrow advantage on a racing track doesn't say much about a car's usability. You might be overlooking the fact that the SRi has a superior torque curve to the ST. That's why its faster. Torque distribution and handling are the most important factors in a car's performance.
And no one said the SRi handles badly, it just handles worse than the ST, which is no surprise given that most cars do.

@maffew286 Again, no one cares about how two cars gauge on an arbitrary racetrack. Point of information: a naturally aspirated 1.6 corsa will keep up with an ST up to 80kph. So a turbo 1.6 is easily the faster car. To those of you who aren't planning on gunning it around bends in some kind of extended streetrace, the SRi has better performance and gear ratios. Yes the ST has awesome handling, but awesome handling is a novelty. It won't help you in a drag race, it won't help you on a freeway.

2 cars going at 70mph. SRI is 0.5 of a sec faster than the ST..they go around a 45' bend the SRI slows down to 30 for the turn. the ST 45. what car over takes? and the SRI with a acceleration 0.5 seconds quicker than the ST speeds up to 70mph same with the ST.. what cars in front... oh the ST!

@ssjblind Having driven both a corsa and a fiesta I can say with some surety that the ford chassis design is about the only thing you'd be missing out on. The corsa is ranked as the 34th most reliable car of the decade, that's two spots in front of the vw golf and fifteen in front of the vw polo. Their engines are notoriously sporty and gear ratios are ideal. So no I don't trust you at all on that one, I trust my experience with both of the cars and the subsequent research I've done on them.

@Englandforever91 lol if you say so... i brought my vxr for 14.5k and i got it valued a year laiter at just over 12.5k and i have racked on 10k miles lol. and the corsa vxr chassis is fantastic it is faster then the st in all sence of the word. evan the new fiesta st coming out is 0 - 60 in 6.9 seconds and the chassis hasnt changed a bit just lowerd where as the new corsa vxr nurburg is 0 - 60 6.5 its lowerd has an lsd brembro brakes so again faster and better handaling :)

@maffew286 im a vauxhall owner i have a corsa vxr arctic 204 bhp, i love the corsa sri its is a brilliant car the handaling is sorted with some coilovers and a set of rollbars and then a phase 3 remap brings it up to 190 odd bhp, the fezza is also a brilliant car although it is no where nere as agressive as the corsa in terms of acceleratoin, this argument tho i feel pointless, its really what you prefere i like drag other people like track so the argument is null and void on that bases.

want a bigger car for trackdriving => go for a second hand focus st prefacelift..prices are pretty good nowadays . and many fordlover's cars out there with not that much milages ...
what ever you choose , tuning it for trackdriving is pretty cheap for these cars !

The fiesta is a great little trackday-funcar aswell for youngsters and adults.
Racing on track is pretty pricey and a fiesta st is just a great car that ford has given us 'amateurs' to trash about. Ok, there are many other alternatives , younger and older..nevertheless , whoever driven a fiesta like this, knows the handling, steering etc are a great base for trackdriving amateurs and semi-pro funcars .
It's cheap to restore if crashed and really is a good starting-rig for the money .

i own a corsa vxr and my next door neighbour owns a fiesta st . . both are good cars in their own ways.
And in terms of reliability i know of a couple of horror stories of both cars; in the end it comes down to a mixture of sheer luck and how well the car is looked after. From my own experiences, my 2007 vxr has never put a foot wrong as yet nor has my neighbours 2007 st.

You actually cant compare the two cars. Because you are comparing new generation of Corsa with old generation of Fiesta. She hit the nail on the head the corsa has understeer and handling issues, its a fact, I experience these with my new corsa under normal driving conditions! Opel is an okay car, ford is just a little better, however they both nice cars. BTW I have a new corsa and now getting the Opel Insignia, hopefully the 2009 car of the year will be an impovement on the corsa.

If you want reliable I've had my EP3 Civic Type R for just over 5 years and done 82,000 miles in it, its had many track days in that time and it has been thrashed within an inch of its life so many times I've lost count and do want to know what's gone wrong with it in all that time? Absolutly nothing, Its 6 years old now and apart from natural wear and tear, tyres,etc i have spent £0 on it. never failed an MOT and never missed a beat....

Vauxhalls arent reliable and I think it's a cheek for them to even think they have a battle with ford. Vauxhalls are so poorly made and fall apart. Ford beat vauxhall at all events and are much more sort after. Not to forget the price difference in 2nd hand fords and vauxhalls.

U1430 you might as well give up, this ford fan has no idea what he's talking about, he is the typical person who drives these BS ford ST's and give them such a bad name In the first place, and I believe ford is actually on par with vauxhall, both car makers win roughly the same amount of awards for safety and "superminis of the years" etc...
Anyway VW are easily the biggest company with amount of car manufacturers they own!

The fiesta engine has a lot more to tune with. Since the corsa is already turbo'd you've lost a the ability to add a major performance upgrade.
Not to mention fords are just the better car

@rjowen48 dont think so vts has a higher top speed of 140mph and a 0-60 of 6.7 stock. Saxo has better looks and interior than this ford banger. Saxo vts has more ncap stars aswell, i'd rather have a 1.1 saxo than a chav banger that is a ST thats for sure. saxo vts's cost more my vts cost £6700 you can get a fiesta for £250 on ebay, you fail

@Hardgit2765 Where do you get your figures from because actually the VTS does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 127mph. Citreon have always had a fobia of passing the 140mph mark im sure. Also I thought you owned a ferarri f430 and sold your saxo years ago? Oh yeah because everything you say is a lie.

I have a normal 1.2 SXi+ Corsa, and although I think it's a great car in ways (comfortable enough, economical, easy), a Fiesta eats it in terms of steering feel and how alive it feels
the Vauxhall engines are far better though. my 1.2 Twinport revs through to the redline much more cleanly and strongly than a 1.25 Fiesta, and on a wide, open road it eats my friend's Fiesta 1.25

Vauxhalls are ok in straight lines but can never do corners properly, that's why all these cunt chavs drive them for traffic light racing because if they had to do a bend they'd get pissed all over.

i drove the sri when i went looking for a new car eventually went for the vxr as it had so much more to offer for little more money but the sri is fun to drive the throttle response is great just pulls and pulls and it looks like a normal corsa so gives people a shock when you whip them at the lights. My vxr they know whats coming but shes a beut ;)

fiesta ST ftw! such a good car! cheap to tune up, repair and the engine in them is fantastic, when your thrashing it or day to day driving. not driven an sri but the VXR is nice for handling, but the engine is not good, especially when driving normally, the turbo kicks in just as your about to change gear which gets annoying v quickly, fast though. the ST just feels good, the power surges up to 5.5k and is very easy to chuck into bends, and easy to correct when pushing it to the limit
